Whoa, there, my fellow gransnetters, let’s slow down and take stock. (Good job this is a written forum, we wouldn’t hear ourselves speak or get a word in edgeways!). Firstly, I must nail my colours to the mast and say that yes, I was offended by the advert but, on the other hand, as a fully paid up member of the Grumpy Old Women Society, I find a lot to be offended by in this modern world of ours. Secondly, I think that Gregg’s had no idea of what they might stir up(!). If contestants in The Apprentice are anything to go by, where they tried to find Jewish food in a Turkish supermarket, most of the younger generation in advertising are sadly lacking in general knowledge. (Another choice quote to brighten this thread: “I don’t know where Brussels is, is it in Berlin?”). I am sure there was no intention to mock, insult or offend - and with that depth of ignorance who knows what to expect!
