Jesus replaced with a Gregg's sausage roll.

The Guardian would have us believe that only 'flaky' Christians are likely to be upset by Gregg's depiction of the Nativity, placing a sausage roll in the manger.

So, Christians are 'flaky" (oh so witty, not) to be upset?

I am no longer a church-goer but I was brought up as a Christian, as were many of us I suspect, and I am offended that Greggs think it is OK to offend as they have. Not only that, journalists like this oh so lofty sneering one place the blame for any offence on silly Christians who are obviously not normal if they have faith.

It really sickens me, this media hatred of certain groups when some are beyond criticism.

One journalist suggested all religions are open to parody and it is par for the course. I'd suggest otherwise. Make fun of Mohammed and you'll be blown to smithereens. Think Charlie Hebdo.

The hilarity the defaced manger scene has caused over the internet puzzles me. Greggs in their insensitivity have become the comic heroes and Christians, for believing in Christ's lowly birth, are the idiotic 'right wing' reactionaries, according to left wing media.

I am cross at the power of social media to dictate what we should think, but also on behalf of my truly lovely Christian friends. One told me she has 'turned the other cheek'.

How do you feel?

Oh how side spittingly funny you are

Anniebach Sun 19-Nov-17 16:20:36

Friday, I did not say you did not behave with dignity, I was questioning your thoughts listening to what you dismiss as fiction, is it not hypocritical to sing a hymn of praise when you believe it to be rubbish . You say you kneel , yet kneeling in church is kneeling before God you believe is fiction, I really don't understand how you can do it

ML wrong thread this is the sausage roll one remember. I can't recall if there ever was a thread on masochism but you could always start one if you feel such a strong need to sate your inclinations. Sorry I can't be of further help.

Terribull I’m clearly not in a good enough position on the floor for you to feel fully satisfied with the kicking you are giving me. Perhaps you could help me to readjust my position by telling me what parts of my body you would like to kick/ stamp on next. I’ll do all I can to oblige as I’m so very very aware of the deep need within you that I am meeting. Funnily enough yout posts do not come across as calm and gentle - but I digress. Now should I put my head by your left or right foot?

TerriBull Sun 19-Nov-17 15:55:38

Maryliza you verbally convey an image of someone about to internally combust from so much agression which belies you user name, a name that could be drawn from "The Waltons" so with that in mind Goodnight Mary Liza and pass my good wishes on to Jim Bob. Please enjoy your brew

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:51:21

Bloody hell annie what a thoroughly offensive post - but as I’ve said upthread, it’s a perfect example of why some of us have such a poor opinion of some of the ‘Christians’ on this thread. Your post was wicked and unnecessary

Friday Sun 19-Nov-17 15:47:49

Anniebach I’ll tell you, because I, and other non-believers, often have to attend such ceremonies, weddings, christenings, funerals, etc. We stand, we sit, we kneel, we sing and we behave, because we are there for others.

Don’t for one moment think that you and other believers have the monopoly on good manners, kindness and thoughtfulness. We are nice people too.

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:47:24

That’s right Terribull keep it coming, keep it coming, let it all out, you know giving me a good kicking is doing you the world of good. Carry on, carry on I’m so pleased to be of service to you. Bless bless bless.

Chewbacca Sun 19-Nov-17 15:46:54

Any time now there will be a post to say that this thread is offensive, should never have been allowed to stand in the first place and will demand it be deleted.

A cup of tea won't dilute that amount of vitriol shock

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:37:49

Telling someone to relax and go and have a cup,of tea and making comments on why they are posting so much wasn’t meant to be patronising? Clearly we use different dictionaries

Anniebach Sun 19-Nov-17 15:37:29

Wonder what it must be like for an atheist to attend a religious service, if a Christian service does readings from the gospels cause them to roll their eyes, psalms cause them to yawn , hymns bring the thought - nice tune sod the words.

Caro1954 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:36:55

That’s just what I’m going to do Mary!

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:36:19

Well trisher she’s found her spiritual home on here hadn’t she? Patronising Hypocrites United.

Caro1954 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:35:38

I can only apologise then Trisher, it certainly was my intention. A lesson for me.

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:34:46

Hahaha carol if that’s not being patronising I don’t know what is. I’ll post as often as I want whenever I want but if you want to criticise/patronise/psychoanalyse me do feel free as I’ve said before - you have no idea why I’m posting, I’m certainly not going to tell you or change my behaviour. OK - perhaps you’re the one who should go and have a nice cup of tea?

trisher Sun 19-Nov-17 15:33:40

It is the general belief that anyone who questions your faith must be an atheist that led met assume that none of you undersood what agnostism is. All the comments refer to 'atheists'
You are being consistently patronising Carol1954 I think you just don't realise it.

lemongrove Sun 19-Nov-17 15:33:11

Hmm, I think that says it all.

lemongrove Sun 19-Nov-17 15:31:39

‘Why should anyone have respect or sensitivity

Caro1954 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:26:05

You seem to have posted more often than anyone else on this thread Mary. Perhaps you “need this”? Go and have a nice cup of tea and relax. I’m not being patronising, I just sincerely think you need to calm down.

Anniebach Sun 19-Nov-17 15:23:02

Lemon, miracles can take time, the impossible much longer ?

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:22:28

Pot black kettle again lemon. Bless

Friday Sun 19-Nov-17 15:22:07

I’m hoping I won’t get shot down in flames but I LOL’d when I saw the advert. It was the image of a swaddled sausage that came to mind.

maryeliza54 Sun 19-Nov-17 15:21:50

Why should anyone have respect and sensitivity for any religion? I really don’t know what that means, honestly. Many many religious views and beliefs and many many so called religious people are abhorrent and hateful. There is no automatic get out of jail card just because you are ‘religious’. As I said upthread, the only respect I show is when visiting religious buildings or being present at a religious service. But if someone posts on a forum about being upset about a sausage roll, why on earth should I be sympathetic or sensitive about that?

lemongrove Sun 19-Nov-17 15:19:51

Stop going on then maryeliza ?
