DD said we needed new curtains in the dining room............

We moved to a newbuild bungalow at the beginning of the year, and took the mJority of our furniture with us, including a 21 year old Tetrad sofa, which, on finding the receip, when packing, I discovered we actually (unbelievably) paid over £900 for at that time. The same sofa now costs over £1700. It's still in good condition, and is very comfortable, so we're keeping it meantime. The downside is that it has feather cushions, which go saggy whenever sat upon.

I've got carpet in my dining room!!

Our house hasn’t been resecorated since we moved in. We are slow to make decisions so reckoned we need 10 years to get it in reasonable shape for eventual downsizing. We’ve just done the dining room & 2 flights of stairs/landings. DC think we should declutter & ‘no one has carpets in the dining-room now. ‘ But GC were mortified when they realised our 1980s Laura Ashley paper had gone and want us to put all our clutter back. “All the bits & pieces are interesting, like a museum, Grandma, and it won’t be like your house.” GC have banned us from ever moving too and I’m not allowed to paint over the LA paper in the bedroom. Mind you, some of the designs are coming back in fashion now.

My clutter goes in the Christmas clutter boxes too when the Christmas clutter comes out. The trouble is, not all of it comes back out after Christmas and I just end up buying more boxes to accommodate it. I never seem to have any less clutter on display though.

None of my furniture matches ,in any room in the house.If anyone had told me when I married in 1964 that fifty odd years later that I would have hotchpotch furniture,I would'nt have believed them.Moving around for years in the forces did/nt help either.We just acquired bits here and there. My dining table came from an aunt's house,it was made in 1926 I love it,my 6 dining chairs cost me a fiver each in an auction of ex RAF stuff in1972,likewise my bedroom furniture.The only new things we ever buy are beds.I'm happy,I like my old mismatched stuff.My daughter and grand-daughter despair of me,all that bothers them is how much stuff they've got to get rid of when I pop my clogs.

For a while now I've been asked by friends and family when I'm having a new kitchen. My response is something like 'it'll do me' or 'what a cheek'. I'm now in the process of getting estimates and informing none of them. Can't wait for responses once update takes place. Mind you, can't say I'm enjoying the sales pitch process. Only once, when I've been asked how I envisage the end result, have I been completely accommodated. Otherwise it has been 'oh, you don't want that' 'have you thought about this?' 'I think I can do better for you'. Mmmmmmm...... Arduous and I once thought of abandoning the whole thing but I'm back with a little more hope. Just waiting for the price and pictures after today's visit. Scary thought!

Mine is for blinds.
I was just thinking; when I was younger I would often spend hours moving my furniture around. Having to find extension leads for things, put plants in front of stuff, moving pictures around to match the new lay out. Then often moving it all back the same day! I haven't done that for years.

Spent the forenoon moving an Ikea sofa and two armchairs round in the sitting-room, so that DH can lean his good arm against the back of the sofa and see TV at the same time,

Necessary because his broken clavicle is stubbornly refusing to mend.

Moving sofa plus chairs is one thing, but it also entailed moving two standard lamps, dragging carpet more over to the other side of the room, dusting and sweeping behind where sofa had been. You get the picture? Just got rid of what I hope is the last of the pine needles from last year's Christmas tree more or less in time for the fresh load coming in next month!

Made much needed coffee and the front door bell rang. A neighbour taking me up on my offer to come in for a cup of coffee sometime. And she brought a beautiful white azalea in a pot! So kind; it made our day.

We like to mover furniture round and rearrange ornaments but would never want to keep replacing things annually. What a waste of money! An occasional new item is enough for me.

Most needing it, I meant.
I constantly have a 'project' on the go. Some work, some not so well.

That is, to put the ornaments etc in the Christmas decs box!

I just do bits and bobs of painting, repairing, bodging and updating wherever is most offering it.

Blinds in living room and dining room, can’t be bothered with curtains or nets have to be washed, or cleaned.
Just dust over the blinds.
Wooden floors in dining room, carpet in living room.
New unit in dining room and sideboard that’s it now=finished.

Can't live with the minimalist look, as I have far too many books that I want to keep, a lot of them over 100 years old, (too shabby to be worth much), therefore bookshelves everywhere but not cluttered. Those old fashioned china cabinets make great bookcases. I don't use curtains at all as they tend to close my rooms in and I like as much daylight as possible. Absolutely hate clutter and spend hours aligning the pieces on my mantlepieces...a bit OCD I think!

We don't change just for the sake of it because we have family stuff, some antique, some not! But we've replaced carpets, curtains, sofas etc. I love my "stuff" because it all has a back story. I have a thing about cushions and am always changing those - bit of a family joke . Love the stag's head/Mona Lisa and the tip about putting the "old vases" etc in the Christmas decorations boxes - I often can't remember where I've stashed them!

Oh I love a change, every year I buy new accessories for the lounge.... cushions, lamps, pictures rugs throws it looks like a new room every time.

I have the same furniture I have had for years. The suite is Parker Knoll and I have had it recovered 3 times. Last time it cost £1765 but that included dining chairs and stool also.

I haven't replaced wallpaper in lounge since 2004 I remember because that is the year my Mum died. I like the design on the paper and, quite honestly, I haven't seen anything I like as well.

Also my marvellous decorator isn't working anymore as he is poorly.

Spend your money and enjoy as you can't take it with you where you will end up. Sorry . Without a doubt others will not hesitate to then spend it for you.
