soop that is a litany of woes - how can one family survive all that? They must have massive depths of love, faith, hope and resilience to draw on.
Speechless with admiration but also pity for their plight.
I am having a wobble watching Pointless which Paw loved although it often involved much shouting at the TV.
He was a man of wide reading and knowledge, great on a quiz nights, irritatingly knowledgeable watching University Challenge and the like. I just found myself wondering how that brain could now be stilled and how on earth I can cope with never being able to speak to him again

CharleyG, there was a pub attached to our hotel, the sign outside said Fish and Chips £9.50, Steak and Ale pie the same price, so we went in and ordered, one of each. The food came within 10 minutes, was plentiful and DELICIOUS! So some places down there aren`t outrageously priced. Soop, you would have loved the fish and chips, large piece of fish, lots of chips, plenty of salad, plus garden peas and a slice of lemon, mmmm, lovely!

callgirl I live in London and I agree having a snack somewhere like Kings cross station can be expensive. Even where I live at times it is cheaper to buy a meal rather than have a delicious pastry somewhere. There are some well run back street cafes if one knows where they are.

I've been talking to a member of our extended family. She is in remission having had a course of treatment for Leukaemia. She is not yet 50. Her sister has terminal breast and bone cancer and there is nothing more can be done for her. Sister's daughter, her niece, had a baby boy in July. He was born with Marshall Smith Syndrome - a rare chromosome problem for which there is no cure. The wee boy cannot swallow and has been fitted with a tracheotomy. He remains in hospital. When he returns home, he will require full time nursing care. And now...the father/grandfather has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. All this has put my worries into perspective.

Care home visit tomorrow. Please may M find herself in a better frame of mind. The last two visits have been hard going. Not her fault. Bloody dementia is to blame.

Tomorrow afternoon I shall return to catch up yet again. Sorry that this post has been bleak.

PS, Annsixty, I think I know the thread you`re referring to, so don`t worry about it, it was in bad taste anyway.

Since I arrived home on Saturday teatime, I`ve been busily trying to catch up on housework, TV programmes on I Player, and the forums I take part in. So please excuse me for not having read back as far as Thursday. I`ve looked at photos and enlarged them, lovely photo of your granddaughter and her baby bump Soop, and what a beautiful view you have N&G. I`ve also read and appreciated and admired your wonderful poem MawB.
I had a great time in that there London, but it isn`t half pricey down there! £5.29 for a pasty at Kings Cross station, so we decided to go hungry and settled for 2 coffees at £2.30 a cup. The show at the Albert Hall was wonderful, would that I could go again. It`s strange, but as we`d been before, we knew that there were cannons and gunfire during the 1812 overture, and were waiting and watching for them. I could see the Moscow militia men up at the top level, even saw the flicker of whatever they lit the cannons with, but still almost jumped out of my skin when they boomed out, lol!!!
I think that Dawn probably needs a good rest after pushing me in the wheelchair, I`m no featherweight, so I`m hiring a mobility scooter for when we go to Kintyre in April.

Oh auntiflo don't worry you didn't offend me in the slightest. I took it as the joke you meant and saw the funny side too (being dyslexic I frequently make mistakes but can actually spell soup ) You didn't come across as abrupt in any way. Glad annie didn't want to be a cannibal - we need our soop too much for that

Thank you all for the kind words. I'm OK, just been a difficult year and the 'man' was the last straw. A mix of family illness and relationship traumas, neither resolving. I feel a bit guilty as many are managing more serious issues.

I did see 'the man' this morning, no conversation fortunately, but I conjured up a vision of bromsticks, grans and legs of lamb. It did the trick, I smiled broadly and I think confused him . Mr C probably thought I had finally flipped.

I will happily join the Ninja Christmas Team, I'll say this very quietly, our decorations will be down from the loft on Wednesday, so I can sort through them, dispatch any not required to a charity shop and make sure the lights still work. Sorry charley you may wish to disown me. More than happy to be a personal shopper n&g, I just love spending other people's money

Hope the grandchildren are OK kitty, and the coffee lake did no lasting harm auntieflo.

corner I cannot help with past event buggerations but if the problems may be in the future or are family related I am happy to sort out both. I am very good at knocking heads together, I am sure that I could sort out the family if that is the problem.

Forget about them, think about your GC and the big C. They will enjoy all of your lights on display.

ann When in doubt - listen to Elegran and you will be enlightened. In the meantime...carry on regardless. You are fully entitled to speak your mind. I've often thought that nothing irritates a would-be "nit picker" more than the shrugging of shoulders and refusal to play silly buggers.
