Happy as can be,
All good pals and jolly good company.

Never mind the rain,
As long as we're together -
Woops she goes again.

I’m popping in to pass on condolences to Maw We often share lack of sleep experiences on insomniacs anonymous thread. I hope I’m not being insensitive but since I’m here I wanted to share the up to date news on my DiL. The chemo is finished. It’s been truly gruelling. Trying to keep all these emotions under control hasn’t been easy. Unfortunately they came to head and exploded when we were at a reasturant a few weeks ago. As usual I did my best to be a peacemaker but it was horrible to see everyone so upset and saying things that upset each other. The poor children were bewildered. In a way it may have been better that it was in a public place otherwise it may have got out of hand. As it was it had to be contained. I can see all sides, who would want to be my DiL parents. Certainly not me but at the same time my son is suffering too. Every time I see him my heart breaks. He’s aged ten years and the sadness, fear and anxiety are sketched across his face. We should have the results by the end of the month and she is just starting to recover from the side affects and feeling and looking better. I hope to be able to spend a little less time childminding now so hopefully I’ll catch up with all the comings and goings here.

cornergran Sat 11-Nov-17 20:09:15

Thank you for the update morethan, of course you aren’t being insensitive. I guess it was inevitable that suppressed emotions boiled over, but even so I’m sorry it happened, it sounds very difficult. Love and hugs. Wishing your daughter in law the best possible outcome.

I do hope the treatment is successful morethan flowers.

I have only just caught up with this thread and am so sad to hear Maw's news about Paw.

Maw, my utmost sympathy and sincere condolences to you and your family, your lovely DH is now at peace. I hope you and your family will be of great support each other at this sad time.

I don't think anyone who has been seen the effects chemo has on not only the patient but also the close family would ever think you were insensitive and the stress involved to all is extreme. We've only been on the outside with both parents in law having cancer and also my husband's niece. I know my SIL felt their world was imploding and the slightest thing was a major hurdle or drama. Even now 3 years on they live on a roller coaster of emotions. I hope your DIL starts to feel better now the treatment is over and you can all start to have a little normality back in your lives.

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Nov-17 20:41:18

morethan2 I do hope that your DIL is starting to feel better, the treatment can have such awful side effects.
Let's hope, if she is now feeling better, emotions will calm down again and that everyone can manage to enjoy the festive season for the children's sake.

morethan2 thanks for sharing the latest news about your DiL. Such a trying situation for everyone flowers

It must be so hard living with cancer and living with a cancer sufferer.
I am a survivor and know just how hollow are the words, " we will face it together, you will be ok, you will overcome it"
The only person to deal with it is the one with cancer.
All the platitudes do not help.
I feel so sad for your whole family more than but particular your Dil and your Son.
They are the ones carrying the burden of dealing with the outcome, good or not so good, and supporting the children and I do know you are playing a huge part in that.

Crafting Sat 11-Nov-17 21:34:30

soop just wanted to say you are a wonderful support to all the people who pop into the kitchen. Thank you for being there. ?

morethan hoping for good news for your DIL and family.

maw hope you get some sleep tonight. x

Peace be with you all (sorry had a little to much wine and feeling a bit melancholy).

annsixty Sat 11-Nov-17 21:39:53

Crafting I have had a brandy on top of wine and have posted several times tonight.
I call it maudlin, probably means the same, but I sometimes need to" let it all out" which I have done tonight.
Oh the shame to admit it.?

cornergran Sat 11-Nov-17 21:45:21

No shame anne xx

Crafting Sat 11-Nov-17 21:50:04

I didn't mention it ann but I too had a brandy on top of wine blush no need for shame, sometimes we need a little help with the troubles of this world and you have a lot to cope with.

morethan2 Sat 11-Nov-17 22:57:35

There is no shame annesixty it’s good to let it all out. It festers if you don’t find an outlet. Hope you manage to sleep tonight. Thank you all for your kindness.

MawBroon Sun 12-Nov-17 06:05:12

Inspired by your example wink I poured a little /hefty slug of brandy into a cup of hot milk before bed last night.
Fortunately, the posts I composed both here and on Messenger failed to send as I woke at 5 and saw the total typo ridden gobbledygook I had composed blush
However I have slept for nearly 5 hours which has to be one of my best nights in a while. smile

Bellasnana Sun 12-Nov-17 07:39:54

Maybe now is not the time what with all the sadness happening in so many Gransnetters' lives, but I just wanted to say that I'm no longer downsized! Thanks to my clever DD1, she managed to retrieve the old email address (which I had locked myself out of) so I can now be my old self again.

Take care, all, and have a restful Sunday flowers

annsixty Sun 12-Nov-17 07:50:31

Oh I am pleased about that * Bellasnana* I just never got used to your new name.
Until I started reading a post from you and saw "Malta" or a reference to your family I got confused.
I hope you are well.
Has your D and your DGD gone back to America yet ? If so I can imagine just how much you are missing them.
Does a visit beckon?

kittylester Sun 12-Nov-17 07:52:18

Phew!

First to see you Maw and be pleased youve had a good sleep. How are doing?

Second, to Bella! I know who you are but I gave to think who that other person is!!

I felt maudlin last night too. Only 3 glasses of wine for me blush but half watching the Remembrance programme on top of the sadness on here got a bit too much. It would have seemed rude to turn it off though.

Greyduster Sun 12-Nov-17 08:15:48

Hello the kitchen. I don’t feel I want to post, but I hope you will forgive me for putting in a poem for Rememberance Sunday.

By Carol Ann Duffy

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.
If poetry could tell it backwards, true, begin
that moment shrapnel scythed you to the stinking mud ...
but you get up, amazed, watch bled bad blood
run upwards from the slime into its wounds;
see lines and lines of British boys rewind
back to their trenches, kiss the photographs from home -
mothers, sweethearts, sisters, younger brothers
not entering the story now
to die and die and die.
Dulce - No - Decorum - No - Pro patria mori.
You walk away.
You walk away; drop your gun (fixed bayonet)
like all your mates do too -
Harry, Tommy, Wilfred, Edward, Bert -
and light a cigarette.
There's coffee in the square,
warm French bread
and all those thousands dead
are shaking dried mud from their hair
and queuing up for home. Freshly alive,
a lad plays Tipperary to the crowd, released
from History; the glistening, healthy horses fit for heroes, kings.
You lean against a wall,
your several million lives still possible
and crammed with love, work, children, talent, English beer, good food.
You see the poet tuck away his pocket-book and smile.
If poetry could truly tell it backwards,
then it would.

oldgoat Sun 12-Nov-17 08:34:25

How many times do we wish that we could turn the clocks back, do things differently or wake up and find that it was all a bad dream?
Thinking of all the Grans for whom life is so sad and difficult.
X

Greyduster Sun 12-Nov-17 09:02:28

Absolutely.

Wise words ann

cornergran Sun 12-Nov-17 09:13:32

Good to hear from you maw. Think I saw elsewhere you will be focused on a young ones birthday today, or have I got the day wrong? That sleep sounds to have been much needed.

Exactly oldgoat, it’s part of being human I think. I also am thinking of those for whom life is sad and difficult, here and out in real life.

It’s good you have reclaimed yourself, bellasnanna, always good to be ourselves. A memorable poem, greyd, how are you today?

A quiet start here, our hearts are full of memories but there are tasks to accomplish as well. Take care everyone.

baubles Sun 12-Nov-17 09:28:07

Popping in to leave my love for everyone troubled and grieving. Life can be so hard sometimes.

I’m sad and tearful today but I know that this too shall pass.

silverlining48 Sun 12-Nov-17 09:46:19

Morethan. So sorry there was upset recently, its hard for everyone involved, but most of all the person involved and the partner of that person, but its also so very very hard being the parent. I know you know this because you have been really supportive to your family.
My dd finished her 16 th chemo cycle a few weeks ago and her treatment continues. It has been a long, hard and painful year for so many of us. Heres to a better 2018.

silverlining48 Sun 12-Nov-17 09:49:56

Bellasnana, welcome back. Never could get used to downsized. Take care.
