How much stuff do they need.......!?!

I know what you mean! When my DGC come to me twice a week they bring at least two bags - wellies, nappies etc. - and even a sucker cup full of water, just in case our taps run dry!

We had three bags the other day, despite me having a box of nappies, clothes and lots of toys already here!

I feel your pain. I have my two grandchildren overnight and do the next days school run. The poor little mites have three bags. A school backpack with books and homework, a lunch bag with an attached water bottle and a rather large P.E bag. I have to check and repack these bags before school. Then there’s before school clubs, after school clubs. Reading homework and a great list of spellings all the ensuing paraphernalia associated with said activities have to be packed or carried. It’s a nightmare. I’m terrified I’ll forget to do or pack somthing and then I’ll have the wrath of very organised parents down on my head.

Ah yes the bits and pieces. I have been taking gardening clothes to wear helping DD to clear stuff from her garden.

When DGS 2 was being sick a lot (cutting out all dairy has sorted that.) I was taking spare clothes "in case". An old towel to wipe the swings and slides. Welliboots.

However did we manage without all that baggage in our time.....now when l have the GD l just take a nappy, wipes and a cup if need be

My GC has to keep wellies, waterproof clothing and slippers at nursery. GS at primary school comes out with large, heavy rucksack, full size sports bag and saxophone.

My grandkids arrive with loads of c* as well. They never come out of the bags. I have a drawer full of their clothes...books...toys...puzzles. The parents know this ...but seems modern kids can’t go anywhere without stuff. Makes me remember the summer hols when I was a kid. Parents at work ...and a grandmother living across the road coming over preparing half a loaf of jam sandwiches... throwing them into a brown paper bag...filling a pop bottle with water or if you were lucky a bit of squash in it , and being told to go play fir the day while she ‘got on’ ... housework I guess!! We were gone for the day... lived just outside watford ... we’d walk to Pinner.. Harrow ..Ruislip Lido.with a couple of bob in our pockets and nobody would see us for hours.When we finically turfed up at home (hunger).. if we didn’t have some scrimped apples and picked blackberries for a pie she’d want to know the reason why. Great..great days!

That’s “scrumped” apples. If you don’t know the word...google it!

Ah yes Saggi - isn't it terrible how we were neglected . Much better though - we learnt how to cope and also got confidence cos our minders were sure we Would cope.

Saggi you bring such memories. I was born and raised in Ruislip and a trip to the Lido was so enjoyed. I also liked to go on the foot bridge over the railway between Eastcote and Ruislip Manor and wave to the train drivers who always waved back.

My dil brings all sorts, including two full size blankets to keep the children cosy on the way home.

When my gd was very very young and use to come and stay for weekend my son would let them pack their own bags so I soon learnt to keep a large stock of clothes, toys boots etc. bought from charity shops at my house. They went home in what they came in. Packing your own bags at 3 or 4 is not a good idea as they tended to come with party dresses for a weekend outdoors.

I read the first line as 'just organising two small DOGS for nursery' and to my shame it took me a few minutes to realise that I am losing the plot and have been brainwashed by my youngest who doesn't have children, but does have a dog, my granddog, apparently!

Saggi sounds just like my childhood. Can't believe the paraphernalia they have today
