Why do I always seem to open new packs of medication at the end with the leaflet folded over so you can't get at meds without removing it? I've tried to open them with the packet wording facing the right way.....result, the leaflet. I've tried opening them with packet wording upside down......result, the leaflet.

What tells you it's a slow day for news in my life? I really need to get out more..........

I always read the leaflet, but not all the side effects are on it.

About six years ago I was prescribe steroids. I noticed some odd symptoms afterwards and checked the leaflet. Nothing appropriate was listed. I googled the possible side effect and the first thing every site said was that it was a side effect caused by taking steroids. Nothing serious, I kept taking them and lived with the mild side effects but it has made me very cynical about those leaflets.

I always read the leaflet. Am I not normal?!!

I always thought they did it on purpose in the hope that people would take the leaflet out first and read it.

Throw the leaflet away and if you MUST read the details google the medication. The self same leaflet usually appears there though to be honest when I have read them the side effects usually seem to be the same as what they are supposed to be curing!

I had some tablets recently that said I should alert my GP if I suffered any of the very rare, serious side effects. One was voices in my head telling me to harm others, another was sudden death. I warned DH that he might have to do the alerting - if he was spared, of course.

I had a box of new medication where the intructions were gradually increasing the dose over a period of days . That had a long instruction manual with warnings and differing doses for the different conditions it could be used for. That seemed a sort of catch all medication. It does seem to working though and as long as I don't suddenly stop it I can control it as it as I need.
The least I have to take the better. There are addiction warnings on that.

Two new packs to open tonight......yip, got the leaflet end both times. I give up.

They always put the leaflet at the wrong end of the pack Katek.
I have just finished a course of antibiotics and some little gremlin kept changing the leaflet from one end to the other just when I thought I had it sussed.

It's the ones that say may cause diarrhoea or constipation that get me confused

Bridgeit Mon 23-Oct-17 18:20:22

Yes definitely, it's even worse that the precautions are not so much about us , but about the fact that we might sue someone because we weren't warned of a hundred & one side effects etc but I suppose that's not such a bad thing, although if you do read it nothing seems to be 'risk' free!

I always open at the leaflet end! I scare myself silly reading the leaflet, I always think I'm gonna get all the side effects. Didn't you prefer it when you jut got your pill in the little brown bottles ? ?

Bridgeit Mon 23-Oct-17 17:48:18

I Definitely always get the leaflet end even when I think I had the packet the correct way around, It's so frustrating isn't it Katek, perhaps we are suffering from a form of packet opening dyslexia , I'm off to the docs ?

medication for nausea - may cause nausea !

Smithy Mon 23-Oct-17 17:19:53

I always take the leaflets out if all my meds when I get them from the chemist, and put them in the recycling. I never read them, wouldn't dare.

Luckygirl Mon 23-Oct-17 16:49:47

I have to laugh at all my OH's PD meds - every single one lists the symptoms of PD as potential side effects! Hmm.

Katek Mon 23-Oct-17 16:46:06

It's s risk/benefit analysis - I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my asthma medication. DH def wouldn't be without his cardiac meds. I don't read the leaflets now...,.. which is probably why they annoy me so much! It's pretty much a CYA exercise for the manufacturers.

Greenfinch Mon 23-Oct-17 15:41:46

One of the side effects of a medication I take says May cause dizziness.I am actually taking it for just that !Doesn't seem right somehow. ?

gillybob Mon 23-Oct-17 14:57:16

I'm beginning to think that myself Anniebach . Poisoning yourself to feel better ?

Greyduster Mon 23-Oct-17 14:35:44

Thank you, folks, for giving me the only laugh out loud moment if the day! ?

Anniebach Mon 23-Oct-17 14:05:16

I have no trust in medicines

Charleygirl Mon 23-Oct-17 13:38:21

Mine have the minor side effect of death!

M0nica Mon 23-Oct-17 13:24:58

All medicines are essentially poisons. That is why one treats them with caution and does without them if not absolutely necessary.

gillybob Mon 23-Oct-17 13:07:30

Exactly Anniebach the side effects of tablets I have just stopped taking were frightening and included

Migraines ... tick
Weight gain....tick
Depression.....tick
Hair loss..... tick
Body Hair increase..... (haven't noticed any significant difference).
Bloating... tick
Spots....tick

and crikey knows what else. hmm

Anniebach Mon 23-Oct-17 13:01:30

I hate those leaflets, what use in saying 1 in 10,000 have x effect, leaves the reader with the thought - I could be that 1 in 10,000

Elrel Mon 23-Oct-17 12:58:04

Always the wrong end when I'm in a hurry! Sod's law in action!
