These are a few of my favourite things ...

In relation to a.n.other thread that was about how much (unnecessary) 'stuff' we seem to accumulate, I got to thinking about what I particularly love and use well amongst all the stuff I own.

I am limiting myself to three favourite things, though there are bound to be more. For me these are:

1: A Persian blanket/throw, bought from eBay many moons ago. This lives in the lounge. It feels silky, has a lovely weight to it and is perfect for snuggling up on a cold day when I want to stint on the heating.

2: A chunky mug - a 'teacher gift' from long ago. I like the size and sturdiness of it. I have some fancier ones, but this is my end of day mug so associated with a last cosy drink before bed time.

3: Glass mosaic coasters - bought from a shop called 'Pier' several years ago. Beautiful to look at and used every day.

Over to you then - three favourite useful things?

I too have the 'knife' that I would hate to lose but also

A lancashire potato peeler that has been 'restrung' more than once

The third is my collection of photos on my desktop that took me ages to scan but now show randomly when it is resting. I love remembering who they are and where they were taken.

Funny that so many of you mentioned a favourite small knife. I have been bereft since losing my wee one last week, but found it today, in the garden, on a pile of carrot and turnip tops, which I abandoned when I made a run for the house, with the carrots and turnips, when there was a sudden torrential shower.

My other treasured possessions are the CDs recorded by the various bands that DH played in and the painting of the view from 'our' holiday home on the Isle of Barra.

I love things and have too many’beloveds’ to winnow them down to three. It might be t bought of as superficial but I think it is down to moving so often and with so little when I was younger. I went to 14 different school to give you a flavour of my semi-nomadic life.

I still have my first teddy, Georgie Panda. He’s pretty special as he goes back so far.

My three favourite things are all of equal importance

Elephants carved from a tree root
(Present from DH)

A small photograph album containing sepia pictures of my family.
So precious as it was believed by my grandparents that all photos prior to the war had been destroyed in the blitz

A silver and purple (my favourite colour) bracelet, it has become my good luck charm.
It was bought for me by my DD on behalf of my first born GC.

Mine are:
1. My sewing machine, as in the old song "it's a gal's best friend";
2. my pretty blue and white cup and saucer - tea is always lovely; and
3. my blue and yellow patchwork quilt - about half of it was worked by other quilters and the rest by me.

gillyknits Sun 22-Oct-17 17:10:54

The recording of a song that my Son sang and played guitar for me on Mother’s Day.
A model of my husband that my daughter made for his sixtieth birthday.
My book of Things That Make Me a Smile:- I cut out all sorts of pictures, jokes and things.

Sar53, I nearly put my 'faux' tiffany lamp on my list of 3 - see what I did there? smile

And then I thought about the pottery 'efforts' from my children that adorn my kitchen window-sill - all so precious ... claiming 'OP privilege' in now being up to six things grin.

I too have "the knife"
An old trunk that H's family used to have sent to their B&B for their summer hols and is now full of photos and other bits.
My smart phone, I use it for everything. I can't remember the last time the laptop came out of the cupboard.

Flossieturner Sun 22-Oct-17 15:34:46

I bought mine from Amazon. It was recommended to me by my Oesteopath. It is a literal life changer. I have oestioarthritus in my Cervical spine, so at the end of the day my shoulder and neck are chronic. The heat really does relieve it.

I believe that Boots and lloyds pharmacy sell them too.

My most favourite thing is a house brick, yes a brick!, which I brought home from my son's home in London last week, It makes me feel closer to him, since I moved away from London (twenty years ago). My second favourite thing is my apple peeler...it cores at the same time...fantastic and my third thing is my ipod .... it goes everywhere with me...its particularly useful on trains and tubes and planes where people talk so loud these days....I just plug my ears in and enjoy my journey listening to all sorts of music or even an audio book, to avoid someone else's loud conversation.

HootyMcOwlface Sun 22-Oct-17 14:07:39

Excuse me from butting in but Electric Heated Shoulder Blanket sounds absolute heaven!
could I ask Flossieturner where did you get that please?!

inishowen Sun 22-Oct-17 14:02:37

My wooden bread board. I was just washing it this morning and realised I'd had it since we got married in 1973.

A large trunk which is full of hand made lace, photos, books etc., all passed on through the generations.

My grandfather clock. Made in Wales as a wedding present many generations ago and passed down to the eldest female. My daughter will inherit it. Not too soon I hope!

Sar53 Sun 22-Oct-17 13:54:43

Family photos, pictures of mum and dad and my girls when they were little and my beautiful four granddaughters.
A table lamp with a faux Tiffany shade bought by my daughters for a Birthday long ago.
My books, couldn't live without them.

Ilovecheese Sun 22-Oct-17 13:45:24

Good scissors
Strawberry huller

Marnie Sun 22-Oct-17 13:41:29

Same as many my knife over fifty years old. My tablet. My phone to keep in touch with all the treasured family and see their photos etc

adaunas Sun 22-Oct-17 13:09:26

Phone for contacts, reading if I don't have my Kindle with me and listening to audiobooks when I'm driving or I can't sleep.
iPad for FaceTime so I can see distant family and friends, and doing jigsaws with strangely shaped pieces that never get lost.
My recliner chair for the end of a long day.

Nanabilly Sun 22-Oct-17 12:58:54

Mine are ...
1. A clown pottery ornament we bought in a small pottery in mevagissey on our first camping holiday with friends.
2 A Suzie Marsh lifesize cat ornament that my hubby bought me the Christmas after I had a stroke and heart attack on the same day and we thought I would not be around for that Christmas . About 20 years ago now and I've accumulated 5 Suzie Marsh cats since ,all from hubby.
3 A really ugly pot that my eldest son made me when in primary school . It's brown and misshapen but I treasure it .
