'Unspoken' forum rules?

Tom Just been giving your post some thought. If you wanted to go down the road of zapping all the posts on here that in your view didn’t follow guidelines, then I think to be balanced you would have to zap every single post that indicated back to other threads.

henetha I think there are many on here who have felt ignored at times, or who think they kill a post by commenting. It's just the nature of a thread I think.

Tom Given that several statements were made on this thread (and on others) about the allegedly strong left wing presence on the political forum, it seems to me that it is unreasonable not to be able to refer back to political threads in order to consider whether such a claim is justified.

I've only just read all of this. There is no doubt in my mind that in the past there was definitely a feeling of a 'clique' on here. I felt like an outsider for a long time.
Also, the fierceness of some posters was quite off-putting to some of us gentler souls.
But it has improved, I think. Although I still largely get ignored there isn't the feeling now that I don't belong.
Or maybe I have just developed more confidence in myself.

There are a few references to other threads but much is actually new postings. Do you have any guidelines as to exactly what GNHQ consider to be an unacceptable amount of references to other threads or is it any reference at all?

How can you argue about arguing I would not have thought it possible but GNetters manage it very well and you've even managed to bring politics into it mind you its why I keep coming back.

I would have imagined that as a long term Labour supporter Annieyou would have been well aware of the contact with the IRA there as been over the years (and it was never just Corbyn).

When Gransnet was launched I had no idea what to expect as I had never joined an online forum before. At that time my life was upside down; my daughter's husband had been killed in Afghanistan a year before and I had abandoned my work and my own activities to support her and her new baby. In real life I have a very supportive family and good friends, but Gransnet was there for me 24/7 and I shall always be grateful for the kindness and warmth that GN posters offered. I flew to Scotland (from Devon) to attend the first real life get together and I met some very special people, including Marmight who hosted me and another Gransnetter - in effect, two complete strangers - in her home.
There were some fairly blunt exchanges right from the beginning, but I always thought that posters pretty much represented what you'd find in any community of diverse people. Because there were far fewer posters it was easier then to get a sense of the person behind the post and so I think allowances were made for differing personalities - although even then there were some clashes of fairly epic proportions. More people coming onto the forums has meant that, for people like me who have poor memories, it's not so easy nowadays to keep track of individual posters and to develop an holistic understanding of their personalities.
I am a green, left-wing activist, but not party political; I am a Christian, I am a wife, mother, grandmother, charity worker, ex-social worker, teacher and Chaplain. But mostly I'm just a human being and fortunately I have that in common with everyone else who posts on this site - so what we have in common trumps the differences.

Trisher , this is more than personalities, I didn't vote for Ed Milliband for leader but supported him fully and worked my socks off campaigning. This is different, I worked so hard for the 1983 election, cried buckets when the party was hammered, worked hard for the party and Kinnock. I was going to vote for Yvette at the last election, but voted for Corbyn because I thought he was honest . I defended him here then came the shock that he run a campaign to bring expelled Militants back into the party at the same time as grassroots members were slogging through the wilderness years trying to win back voters who left us in 1983 because of the far left wing. Then I learn he not only supported the IRA he invited the leaders to Westminster just weeks after the Brighton bombing, I wanted thatcher out but not by the bomb, and there were members of the house and staff grieving yet Corbyn ignored their pain. I cannot support such a person, you can.

So change the subject and post something interesting yourself. It's not very interesting just to say you don't like something. At least we have something to say.
Personally I'm delighted to discuss anything, apart from not discussing things
I've already said it's just a bit of a time waster for me and I don't take it seriously and never remember these long term poster things.

I agree with *primrose65 it's annoying when the same group of people hijack threads for political reasons.

Nina, do you not recall the poster Rigsby sending PM's saying ignore rosesarered but slipped up and sent it to rosesarered as well. Surely that was playground gang behaviour, - let's not speak to him/him ?

So what it seems Anniebach is that you will put yourself above the needs of the poor, the disabled and the underprivileged, and watch them suffer more because you personally dislike someone. Many of us thought Blair an opportunist and a bit Machaevelian, but we believed it was policies not personalities that mattered and we wanted to see things change. You have posted much about the achievements of the Blair government, that only happened because many of us managed to put the party before our personal prejudices.

I've never been invited to join "the gang" and am obviously naive in being surprised at such goings on. As for a group to hound someone off GN

No Trisher, I have fallen for your traps too many times, with regret I do not trust you now. It is your group who class me a Blairite no matter I have said so many times I was a Gordon Brown supporter, if he had stood against Blair for the leadership I would have voted for Brown. I respect him very much, he is honest and has never betrayed the party, like me the party comes first for him.

No Jen, I stopped supporting a labour leader who in my opinion is a liar, a bully and will destroy the party I have been loyal to forover fifty years, that you choose to defend him, McDonald and Abbott is your choice, I must be true to myself even though it means the constant attacks from those I once agreed with.

Annie, remember you are bi lingual and spelling can be an issue for some who have another language. I email a French cousin fairly often, his English is brilliant, but not his spelling, but I never lose the essence of what he has to say. I admire anyone who can communicate in another language it takes me ages to compose my final paragraph in French to him because I feel I should make a bit of a reciprocal effort.

Apparently May is going to find billions more next year to save us from the cliff edge when she withdraws us without a deal.
