Nosey Neighbour

New bathroom?

Our next door neighbours have been in their house for almost eight years now.
When they first moved in they had a new kitchen, bathroom and bedroom fitted, which would have been necessary as the previous resident was in her nineties, had bought the house from new in the late 1950s, and everything was original.
However, since then they have had the bathroom replaced twice, the kitchen three times, and they're now on their third lot of fitted bedroom furniture!
The reason why? The male half of the couple is the most bad tempered man on the face of the earth, and is constantly slamming doors, windows, drawers etc. He's broken the fitted wardrobe doors and drawers, slammed the toilet lid so hard he shattered the toilet itself (soft close lid needed?), broken the shower cubicle and the door, cracked the bath, broken the doors and drawers in the kitchen, damaged the worktops by putting hot pans down on them. They're now on their fourth front door, they've had two new back doors, almost all the windows have been replaced multiple times, as he's damaged them!
If they want to waste cash like that, quite honestly I don't care, but the noise never stops! There's not a week passes that there isn't some form of work happening there, the up-and-over garage door has been repaired three times and replaced twice, he's on his fourth garden shed as he bangs the doors so hard that eventually the whole thing collapses, and the glass in their greenhouse has been replaced numerous times due to him banging about in there!
He's an idiot!

I live in an area largely favoured by older people. In the last few years seven of the houses in my immediate surroundings have changed ownership. As the houses are ripped apart, the amount of money spent by each new resident is phenomenal. It makes my renovations seem very modest indeed and sometimes I feel like I am a bit of a poor relation.

It's also chastening to see just how much stuff goes to landfill. No wonder we have a landfill crisis.

Bizarre

In our village, people buy the lovely expensive detached bungalow (£400,000 ish) and KNOCK it down!! - they then build a house on the plot (2 have 6 and 7 bedrooms), what I want to know is where do they get the money from?, and how much would they give me for my ? , offers accepted lol.

Happened in our road to a lesser degree. Neighbour had new flooring etc put in, sold house, new owner ripped out and replaced floor and lots else then sold up about 18 months later. What a waste of money! Don't think the value increased by that much. I don't think of myself as a nosey neighbour but you can't help seeing what's happening!

I can't make out why she bought a brand new one with everything lickety spit.

It does make you wonder why some folk go to all the expense and upheaval of moving, when they perhaps should have had a house built to their specific requirements in the first place. But saying that, I await developments with bated breath. Eglantine, you're not nosey, just very interested.

Perhaps she's having a wet room put in. Let us know. My mam has a similar neighbour. Moved into a lovely house which just needed redecorating. She's messed it about so much now that she's actually reduced the value of the property.

Oh now there's a plumbers van!

We have neighbours like that they even went to the extent of replastering the internal walls plus everything else you’ve mentioned.

Reminds me of my neighbour who phoned to ask why OHs carers were so early one morning ! I wondered why myself . Actually my new kitchen had to have cupboards moved and the lovely kitchen man said it was the first time he had to renovate a new kitchen ! Wish I had heard about your neighbour and could have had a retort for him
