Sorry its late in the day!

Happy birthday Jingle , hope you have had a fantastic day with lots of cake.

I think she's made it clear from the posts. Or is it someone not banned pretending to be her to cause mischief ? Still confused or she's been unbanned - or whatever the word is.

Cherrytree59 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:29:21

wine smile

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:26:43

And 'was' is past tense.

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:26:05

Well, people seem to think it's her, which is not quite the same thing as knowing.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:25:10

Well she isn't is she, she's posting? confused

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:22:45

She certainly was banned.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:05:41

Anyone can see anything we post - it's just that you have to be a member to post - which Jingle clearly is as she is posting so I don't understand how she's banned.

BBbevan Sat 07-Oct-17 19:05:19

O K thanks Granyknot I am not at all au fait with technicalities.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:03:47

The examples I was referring to were when the poster said s/he was new and was unkindly replued to - relationship threads

Grannyknot Sat 07-Oct-17 19:02:51

Bevan there's logging in, there are screenshots, there's sitting next to someone who has logged in so you can read to your heart's content, there's copy and paste and email!

Registering and logging in - to any site - means naught.

BBbevan Sat 07-Oct-17 19:00:20

Just a thought , but if we GNers have to sign in to see any posts, will Jings be able to read any of this? Including the well meant birthday greetings.

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 18:56:21

I'm all for barrelling in too. But you have to not mind people responding in kind with equal brusqueness. And you have to remember that the responders have no idea and can have no idea of your sensitivities. Why should they? How could they? Also they are quite likely not to know if a poster is new. I see new usernames every day, new to me that is. I've no idea if they're new to the site and you can't tell unless they mention it.

One can learn some internet forum toughness. I say this because I have done just that without even trying. My Gransnet-poster-provoked sensitivities are orders of magnitude less now than they were when I first started posting. Hopefully some people might find that reassuring smile

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 18:52:29

Search me ffin but some people think they have more rights on this forum than others

ffinnochio Sat 07-Oct-17 18:43:50

Why not barrel in. It’s straightforward. Second guessing is impossible.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 18:21:28

It's not the slightest like joining your local WI. And being upset and saying so isn't the same as telling the WI at the second meeting they are getting it all wrong. I've seen some horrible examples where new posters have had a really mean response from the 'established' posters. I'm glad that you don't mean new members are unwelcome kitty but it often feels like it . How long before a new member can feel upset/ offended?

merlotgran Sat 07-Oct-17 18:16:07

I agree, kitty. Some members join with a kind of preconceived template they expect all members to fit.

kittylester Sat 07-Oct-17 17:50:50

Imperfect's point cuts both ways though. For all we know Jings may have been having a bad day when she offended people. I think that's what Alima was saying.

I know I keep saying this, and I don't mean that new members are unwelcome, but it isn't polite to barrel in as a newbie taking offence at things people might say without getting a feel for the site first. By all means post, but don't take offence easily. I have likened it previously to joining your local WI (or whatever) and announcing at the second meeting that they were doing it all wrong.

It's a case of live and let live.

ffinnochio Sat 07-Oct-17 17:44:09

Frankly, all the coming and going, name changes etc., of some of those that I knew ‘back in the day’ has addled my brain.
Simplicity, straightforwardness, clarity and continuity works for me.
Think that’s why I engage with GN very infrequently these days.

Luckygirl Sat 07-Oct-17 15:38:31

I think Imperfect has a point - ducks below parapet.

On an internet forum, we have no idea of the sensitivities of others, and we cannot always tiptoe round what we do not know, but we can bear in mind that someone might be on a really bad day, and do our best to avoid causing hurt.

A bit of spice, laced with a bit of thought maybe.

But what do I know?

Signed DefinitelyMe. grin

Maggiemaybe Sat 07-Oct-17 15:24:56

Well, well, well. That's cheered me up no end. grin

Bellanonna Sat 07-Oct-17 14:51:31

Yes, that's the one, merlot

merlotgran Sat 07-Oct-17 14:47:38

I think that was janerowena, Bellanonna. She changed her name then disappeared.

I miss her gardening comments although she may still be here because I'm rubbish at spotting new usernames.

Bellanonna Sat 07-Oct-17 14:44:36

I had been wondering about Roses and Jalima too. Much further back we had a member who always called her husband her DBL. Haven't seen her in ages. I suppose at some point people just take a break, then don't come back.

merlotgran Sat 07-Oct-17 14:37:46

Nice to know you're still able to slide under the wire now and again, Notme grin

TerriBull Sat 07-Oct-17 14:18:51

Extraordinary! GN's very own Scarlet Pimpernel welcome back Notme, this should liven things up a bit on a dreary Saturday afternoon grin
