I totally agree Kitty , it’s like not being able to put a plaster on or give a dose of medicine. I put that right up there with rewarding for attendance ! THAT just encourages sick children to go to school.

I know what you mean about 11 year olds - The Queen of the Universe will be 11 in a couple of weeks and has developed a look that will turn you to stone at 50 paces !!

I think that corner is spending her pocket money but I have forgotten where. I think that she and DH will be home within the next few days. I also think that they have family in that neck of the woods. It keeps her off the streets and out of mischief.

Somebody rang my doorbell last night- I looked through the video thing and it was a well dressed young man. I could not find the intercom button so missed talking with him. He must have gone on his merry way because I was not opening the door. If I had spoken I think my husband would have been having a shower and my son out but returning soon, I live alone with Tara. Weird. My immediate neighbours would have rung if there was a problem. Did he think I would be opening he door anytime soon? Even Tara was startled.

Always remember boys of 11 or nearly, are a big fish in the Snell pool that is their Juniour school, your younger children and especially the girls, look up to them, they are flexing their wings.
It all changes next September when they go to High school where they may be a speck in perhaps 1500 pupils, some of them huge and heading for18.
Mind you it may be then that they start to copy older children's behaviour.
I always think most should be locked in their bedroom until 16+.
I am keeping quiet just now H is going through a decline again a D I don't get out much.
Our meeting with a nurse at the practice last week has resulted in a call from them asking us in to discuss his mood and anxiety issue.
We have to wait 3 weeks for the first appointment.

I've only just managed to catch up with this thread as, once I'd done a hand brake turn and deposited crafting onto someone's lawn - it was rather a large lawn, hope it was the right place - I had to head back. Presumably someone brought Crafting back or was she 'detained'.

May I join the bewildered by 11 year olds club. Actually ours in 10 and a half (but he was always very advanced for his age! ) Ours was here, ill, on Tuesday which was also one of our days for having Bertie and Persie during their half term. He was a complete star. Next time I saw him I could have put him up for adoption! I send him really corny jokes a couple of times a week to keep us in contact with a smile.

I know rules is rules but recently we have had Bertie having to have the compulsory 48 hours off school after he had been encouraged to taste avocado and thrown up and then Seb travel sick on a school trip and forced to have 48 hours off. I can see the logic but where is the common sense.

Sitting on the floor having a chat with your DGS made me smile GD. When DD3 and Bertie and Persie were living with us, following her leaving the Idiot, Bertie would disappear under the dining table when he was upset. For quite a while my default position was bottom in the air, head amongst the chair legs, chatting about anything and nothing with a very small, sad (or cross) little boy. He's fine now but I doubt my knees or back will ever recover!

Gq I hope you enjoy your trip to the zoo today. Which one are you going to? When we went to YWP, GS kept asking if I was having a nice time. He seemed very anxious that I shouldn’t get bored and want to go home! As if I could ever be bored in his company. I spoke to DD today and he seems to have hauled himself back onto the straight and narrow - for a bit, anyway.
I went to the station today to buy a train ticket (yes, I know, I could have done it on line. My children will be raising their eyes to the heavens too!) and I thought I would share these photos of a sculpture of a peregrine falcon that has been put up in the station precinct. It was made by a local metalwork artist out of about three thousand Allen keys. It is named..... Alan! I think it is amazing.

PoshGran and granniequeenie^Us lot^ on the charra' trip needed someone like you to help higher the tone of the occasion. For one thing, you'd have held the china cups (when slurping sipping tea) at the Royal household with a crooked little pinkie. N&G couldn't cope with the invasion for much beyond midnight. It was then that we summoned a limo' and treated the Royals to a friendly call. All things considered, the B&B in the west wing wasn't too shabby.

Our move went well, the removal men were lovely and did a sterling job. We had a mini wobble Friday night when we saw every room crammed with out things. But god love Grampy , he’s worked really hard making it all livable.

The kitchen is nearly back to normal, and no need to bother with a Swedish death clean... we did a Norfolk one !!

It will be a few months before things are really to our liking but we can at least move around now. Sam has settled in well, although doing nose to nose with a muntjac deer the other morning which was about the same size as him was a surprise to all concerned .

I’ll do a catch up later and then be back. I hope all the poorly people have improved , and need a check in with Paw and Ann to make sure they are doing ok.

My goodness whatever have I been missing? I was away for the weekend too, busy catching up with some old pals but by the sounds of it my weekend was nothing like as riotous as the one you lot had! Hope n&g have managed to calm the neighbours down after all those shenanigans
greyduster I know what you mean about 11 year olds it’s a real in between age for them. Mostly too old for just playing as they used to do and think they are so grown up but then show that they are still children at heart. We’re off to the zoo tomorrow with dd 2 &3 and their families, including 2 almost 11 year olds who will hopefully be happy to be there and not be practicing to be —grumpy— teenagers

Wish I could have come with you to Norfolk, but my weekend was spent in a paper/photo mountain sifting through the ages (was I ever that young??) - a legacy of brother's recent sad demise.
Having thus just about finished my practical involvement in things I am now able to pick up threads (& Kitchen pals) & have partaken in some retail therapy today - new walking coat & trousers as OH & self are returning to annoy the Yorkshire Dales again on Fri.
Chocolate brownies sound yummy Greyduster but I am saving myself for the next 2 weeks pubbing walking.
Would love a GNet get-together soop - feel in need of a bit of restorative fun - do they turn out like hen nights...... or Norfolk nights??

I’m now “relaxing” with 5 y.o. DGS (from 8-6. Just today thankfully). Can imagine how tiring it must be for many grans. This one’s a live wire but has finally sat down with Octonauts, which he is accompanying with loud throaty noises. Can’t wait for my ??later on.

I have just spent the last couple of hours in tears - no, nothing tragic (except a cut thumb!); just peeling a mountain of shallots for pickling! I had a “why on earth am I doing this?” moment before I remembered that I don’t like most commercially prepared pickled onions and the one brand I really like is now as rare as hen’s teeth, so it was onward and upward. It’s very strange without N&G popping in to wish us “morning all!” I’m sure we all hope she is back on line and in the kitchen soon.
GS and his parents were over here yesterday and he got on the wrong side of his usually very patient father - they seem to be rubbing each other up the wrong way a bit recently because the boy has developed something of an attitude problem. Anyway, he had an uncharacteristic meltdown and he and I ended up sitting on the floor in “his room”, where I gently tried to explain some of the repercussions of this type of continual friction. I fancy it went in one ear and out the other but you never know. He is nearly eleven and neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring at the moment - perhaps hormones kick in earlier these days. We should have a ‘big sigh’ emoticon!
The chocolate brownies I made on Saturday have matured nicely, so I shall leave some in the kitchen - after I have had a piece!

Note to Bellanonna Sorry that you were sitting all alone during the riotous escapades. Thank you for doing a week's washing up that was piling up in the kitchen. All's well, Bellanonna, we're back where we belong. Her majesty was not amused when she realised that one of the corgis had nipped off with the piper. Although we were well aware that N&G had plenty of room to put us lot for the night, a few absconders (with ideas above their station) opted to book into the Royal Household. Credit where its due - Prince Philip did his best to remain civil.

You wouldn’t want kisses from Hattie if you had seen where her nose was last night! Hearing massive barking from the garden I managed to pull her away from a large hedgehog trying unsuccessfully to hide behind a patio pot. Once I had got Hattie in I went back with a small shovel and gently encouraged her out onto the path where she (I always think of them as “she” must be Mrs Tiggywinkle) scuttled off out under the gate.
Hope Hattie didn’t actually make contact , thinking of fleas etc

There is nothing like sleeping in one's own bed again, no matter how comfortable it was at N&G's* sharing with Sam and Hattie.

Admittedly I forgot that Hattie needed a wee during the night whereas Tara has her litter tray so I am undisturbed at home. Still it is a small price to pay for kisses and cuddles from both.

I've enjoyed reading about your charabanc adventures, can't get into the kitchen for a while, take care all.

Well, I never! The place is deserted. I’ve been sitting on the sofa, looking out to sea, and there’s nobody about, Ive eaten nearly all the cakes that someone left in the fridge - feeling a bit sick now, And terribly lonely. Wherever is soop? A neighbour did say something about a very rowdy coach party but of course I didn’t believe it. Neighbours can be unpleasant sometimes. I expect they’ll be back soon. Meanwhile I’ll just have another cake....

? Oh, Maw! Will they let Hattie visit you in the Tower? We’ll send you a cake with a file in it!
