anno when our bathroom was updated the plumber took the toilet out when he arrived and out it back when he left. Our neighbours were very accommodating and we made good use of a local pub and Sainsbury. It was worth it.

Our sky was overcast and orange/red for most of the morning. Really, really oppressive. Then came bright sunshine. Off we went for a walk on the sea front. Walked very quickly one way and could hardly make progress coming back. Oh well, lots of fresh air.

soop, please take care, look after yourself. Hope the power has remained. That Edinburgh meet up sounds a wonderful trip for you and macs. Made me think of the times I needed to travel for work and Mr C, by then retired, would be chauffeur come along and explore the area. We enjoyed coffee on arrival and often a meal together before returning home. Good days.

Hope your daughter is safe at home by now ann and you can sleep well tonight. A 45 minute appointment sounds really useful, you can make good use of it, good wishes to you both.

There's a similar chat overdue with one of ours greyd biding my time. The day will come.

Why do I feel on Monday evening that it should be Friday? Hoping for a full night of sleep, think the lack is catching up with me, brain like soup, shouldn't complain, others have far more reason. Looking forward to tomorrow as lunch planned with a friend. A nice natter will sort me out.

I remember a wonderfully stormy Autumn half term in Cornwall about 30 years ago, our cottage faced the beach at New Polzeath and the wind and rain just LASHED down. But properly wrapped up or safely behind the double glazing it was such fun too.

Hello, the kitchen. I hope that everyone in the path of the storm has come through unscathed. It was a bit wild here, but the contents of our skip were not all over the road this morning as expected. This morning dawned clear and calm, with Venus and a sickle moon. The photos would be better if I’d a) put my glasses on; b) taken them outside (too cold and I still had my jimjams on! Don’t want to frighten the neighbours!).
Maw when we lived down on the Pembrokeshire coast, DH would head for the beach in the stormiest weather just to watch the sea (from a safe distance). Even the dog wouldn’t go with him!
Anno we had the bathroom in our last house replaced and it was the only toilet we had. One plumber we asked for a quote asked us if we go away on holiday for two weeks so that he could have a clear run!! We told him to go away instead. In the end, we found a plumber who managed to co-ordinate the fit so that we were never without a toilet. We were both working at the time, so out of the house all day, and it wasn't much of a problem.
corner I hope you enjoy your lunch with your friend. Always lifts my spirits! As for your sleep problem, come up here; a couple of hours spent in my company and you’d be snoring in no time ?!

Hoping it all goes smoothly and not too many tears she’d at leaving the old home . I am DREADFUL that what, I never know why I ever moved in the first place - until the next time. Perhaps that’s why the mega rich have so many homes?

What a beautiful morning it is here after a blowy night. AND I got 2 very decent stretches of sleep 11-4 and just before 6-8 (waking at 5 was my own fault, I thought I heard Hattie but she was curled up in her bed in the utility room and didn’t even open an eye. Life goes on

I got out of hospital before the storm but was so drugged up I never noticed ! Sick. As the proverbial all afternoon but managed to dodge DD and the meds and am returned to sanity and the nausea is fading . I kept saying the morphine was not for me so they gave me codeine , which was worse , now just on Paracetamol no zonk. , no nausea ! My DDs are rallying round and very helpful .Sorry , not read the whole thread hope you are all as well as can be expected xxx

N&G. All the best for the move. Hope all goes smoothly. It's a bright morning here with just a light breeze. When I went to bed last night the trees were still tossing, but the double glazing kept the sounds of the gale at bay. Text came this morning reminding me about a salon appointment tomorrow which I'd already cancelled and changed to next week. Perhaps I should have kept it - I could do with a pedicure today. Sister is arriving next Tuesday so we're having a joint appointment for manicure and eyebrows. Today is 7 weeks since my accident and my shoulder is feeling strong. I'm going to see if my car is in equally good form and then see how I get on driving it.
Aggie, hope you are now over your reaction to opiates. I sympathise because morphine made me very sick after my hip replacement; I also react badly to codeine and tramadol. Which doesn't leave me much in the way of pain relief except paracetamol. All the best for your complete recovery.

soop, just noticed that I have to refresh your memory: 7 weeks ago, fell while walking down station platform; yelled for help and train staff were magnificent. Blue lights and siren to A&E; tests and x-ray; fractured shoulder, big bump on head; multiple bruises and bloody knee. Since then, gradual recovery and now mostly pain free. Frustrating not being able to drive though friends very helpful.

Hope the move goes according to plan NandG It's a great feeling when you are finally tucked up on bed in your new home.

N&G perhaps you are forgetting that us lot are arriving by charabanc (or two) the day after you move and we will be expecting a 3 course meal. We will supply the wine, none of us will be driving so we can enjoy ourselves. If we over indulge we will of course expect to stay the night.

It will soon be over and although it will take you a few weeks to sort things out, hopefully you will be well sorted by Christmas.

Yesterday I was going out shopping, looked at my side lawn to discover that somebody had dumped bags of rubbish. Mostly unwashed clothes and underwear, empty folded boxes etc. I think they were setting up home judging from the boxes, cutlery, wine glasses, kettle, toaster, George Foreman grill etc. I cleared it all up this morning so I have managed to fill my own bins but as my throw outs are cleaner, I want to get rid of this rubbish first. I get fed up with people just dumping stuff but I am grateful that it was not a mattress or two.

The sun is shining here today- I have no idea if it was raining and windy during the night because Tara and I sleep the sleep of the dead.

D got home at 10.35 PM, so pleased to be back with the pets.
She seems fine today, just needs daily dressings which she hopes to be able to manage herself.
Her C are back on Sunday, she has really missed them this time.
Strange visit to the surgery yesterday.
We saw a practice nurse who was very good but not much more help than I anticipated.
She will pass on all I said to the Dr, but she could tell from our conversation that H is not going to accept help even though he agreed with her how hard it all is on me.
Then she said I will take bloods and by the way Mrs AS the GP wants bloods from you and a urine sample and blood pressure and a meds review!!
It wasn't even my appt!!
I will see what happens next.
I can only think they are getting paid to see the oldies.
Still blustery but bright and sunny.

ann that was very late to discharge your daughter but at least she is home again and you can settle knowing she is okay.

Yes, money does come into the equation but at least you are being looked after as well.

I do not know what to suggest re H because I know that help for you is out of the question. I think that Age UK have ladies who will sit with him while you have a coffee or a meal out with friends or family. Maybe if you impress on H that the person has been a friend for many years he may accept that fact.

ann Perhaps the GP wants all that info about YOU at his fingertips to use to persuade DH that he really does need to get some help from someone other than you?

Wagons roll, N&G! Norfolk will be waiting with open arms! (Or should that be “they won’t know what’s hit ‘em” ). Seriously, I’m sure you and Grampy will be employing all the military precision you can muster and it will all go like clockwork. Charley has made us promise not to park the charra on your new front lawn, but there will be a rush for the toilet so stand well back when you open the front door!
Ann I’m surprised they couldn't cut to the chase and let you and your DH see the doctor instead of a nurse having to relay the info to him. The mind boggles at how these things work these days. I hope something in terms of positive help comes of it anyway. Good to hear your DD is on the mend.
aggie my neice’s husband has recently had a second hip replaced and he had the same problems as you with the medication. Glad to hear you have plenty of help and I hope you are feeling much better soon. A gorgeous day here but getting rather breezy now - not a breath of wind this morning. Perhaps Ophelia has changed track and come back for a second go!

Woooshhhhhh! The storm came and went without too much disruption hereabouts. It was nowhere close to one we had a few years ago. Winds clocked at 90mph on that occasion. Neighbour's tree uprooted and tossed across our fence. The news programme was all pixilated. Is that even a proper word?

anno Yes! Now I recall what happened to you on the station platform. That was a scary incident. It could have been so much worse. I'm glad that you are recovering well. Having the support of good friends is invaluable at such times.

ann The nurse will most definitely be putting in a good word or two on your behalf when she reports back to the GP.

I've been to the care home. It was awfully quiet until a male resident sneezed that loudly he almost fell from his chair. I called out...B, you've blown my knickers off... after which, the room rocked with laughter.

Going to talk to GP about my knee pain. It has become a buggeration and we've had to put our daily stroll through the village on hold. With so little movement the knee is swollen. Getting up from a seated position and lifting the leg to climb steps sends a shock wave through the joint. Old age is a bummer.

Greyduster I bags first in through N&G's front door to sample the loo when us lot are ordered off the charra. Best I have a spare pair of Sloggis in my handbag. A girl can never be too careful. Would hate to let the side down.

soop with our bladder problems maybe I will order a couple of buses with loos on board. Still bring your extra pair of knickers because there will be a permanent queue on the bus for the loos. I think for Hattie and others we will just ask the driver to stop and hope we are off the motorway.

Is your knee hurting you in bed at night? Do you notice the pain when you first waken? I know what it is like, I have the T shirt.

soop I am so sorry you have all these problems to deal with and now a poorly knee. Please get to the GP and see if you can have something done to help. I have a very dodgy right knee that creaks and groans whenever I move and I am frightened to rely on it when going up and down stairs. Sometimes I have to get my DH to give me a shove from behind (or should that be shove my behind ) to get me on the bus as the step is too high.
