Soop's special kitchen for like-minded folk and treasured pets

I've just checked out your lovely bathroom, greyduster. It's just what I want! Mine is functional but dated and needs a complete face lift. My problem is that it's the only one in the house and I'm not sure how I would cope while the work was being done - so I keep putting the decision off again and again.

Good to see better news of your daughter, Ann, hope you feel reassured that she’s in good hands and on the mend now. You’re right we still worry, no matter how old they are they’re still our babies. I hope the day is kind to you and maybe the chance of a rest after your unsettled night. x

Ann the antibiotics will be kicking in now so hopefully she will not need surgery. Cat's mouths are full of nasty bacteria, hence the problem with infection if one nips another or in this case, a human.

ann, what a terrible worry for you. I see that the news this morning is a little better, so hang on to that. Let's hope that as the day goes on, the signs will improve and there won't be a need for surgery. What a vicious bacterium that must have been. ((((hugs))))

Maw hope you're still managing with so little sleep. My sleep patterns are haywire at the moment but at least I only have me to look after. Must get sorted before half-term next week!

Dear ann , what a terrible shock that must have been to get the news about your daughter. I've just been catching up on the last couple of days' news so missed your post last night. So pleased to hear she's feeling a bit better this morning and, as others have said, she's in the right place.

Also it's very true that you never stop worrying about your own children, no matter how old they are. I managed to spend a couple of hours alone with my son last week for the first time in ages and it was so good. Love his family to bits but he will always be number one.

That's very good news, Ann. You must be very relieved. No, worrying about our children, even when they are adults, never ends - it comes with the territory. Hope you get to speak to her at some stage during the day.

Thank you for the update ann. That does sound more positive and of course you are right, we never stop worrying, no matter how old they are still our child. If you have specific worries the ward staff would speak with you on the phone if your daughter is happy with that and tells them so. Particularly as your circumstances mean you can't visit. Hope the day brings more positive news.

I have had a sleepless night which is silly I know ,but I have had several txts this morning and she is ok.
Why do our minds only think of the worst case scenario?
The swelling has gone down slightly and she isn't in such pain.
She is almost as old as some grants on GN (52) but still my D, it never ends does it?

Oh dear, ann! Being unable to do anything is awful isn't it! Let us know any news as soon as you have it. Ss would have to step in for your DH if it came to it.

I remember most of the radio programmes mentioned and I had an Ovaltinies mug with a hat.

Moving is hard work n&g - I hope all goes well. I love your planned surprise.

Happy birthday to minibags, I envy them the profiteroles and strawberries. I loved the period of life with lots of teenagers all over the house.

Soop, do take great care if the hurricane hits tomorrow. A friend in Dublin says they`ve had a red alert, all schools and creches will be closed, and all hospital appointments cancelled, emergencies only.
GrannyQ, I remember the Semprini programme, he was my favourite pianist in those days. I also remember Carroll Levis and his talent show, and Godfrey Wynn, his signature tune was It`s My Mother`s Birthday Today. And on Sundays we had The Navy Lark, but I never really found it funny, it was years before I found out who Lilian Gish was!

So sorry to hear about your daughter ann. It's so much worse when you can't be with her. See what tomorrow brings. If necessary get help for your husband from a family member and help for yourself as mawb describes. Having said that I'm believing galen, hold onto the belief all will be well and she will be fine. Sending as many hugs as you need.

Oh Annsixty how I feel for you. Do you know her neighbours well enough to be able to rely on them to keep you in the loop? Is there nobody who could stay with your H to allow you to go down? With taxis (and even mobility assistance for which you do not need to be disabled, Virgin West Coast Line to Euston works like a dream) ) the journey need not be too intimidating.

Ann, so sorry to hear about your daughter, what a worry for you. It’s just awful to feel helpless, no matter how old they are mums just want to be there and if possible make it better too.
oldgoat the radio’s actually a Bendix, I always thought they only made washing machines.
You’re right cg it’s going nowhere fast and I’m getting used to it in situ! But I do think the lamp looks odd, might need to get something different.
Like others I’ve lots of radio memories from childhood. My dad bought a Cossor portable radio, though not actually that small as I recall, to have by his bed. He was a great lover of classical music and one of my happiest memories is of snuggling up beside him listening to Semprini’s Serenade “Old ones, new ones, loved ones, forgotten ones....” Does anyone else remember the programme? The radio itself was a cause of great consternation, it was the first and probably only item my dad ever bought on HP. He was desperate to have the radio but there was no way he could manage it any other way. There was a lot of discussion about the risks of buying something in such a way and I don’t think my mother relaxed till it was fully paid for. How times have changed!
Funny you should mention the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, gd, my eldest dd went there over the weekend. She too thought it was a very good experience and the children enjoyed it.
Hope the next few days go smoothly n&g, moving house is not for the faint hearted but I get the feeling you’ll be fine. Enjoy what my daughter called the “nesting season” as you settle in a new home and area.

ann that’s really shocking. Your poor D. She will have been put on a strong antibiotic so maybe won’t need surgery, but what an awful reaction to a bite (or several bites). When you know more please update us and do get some sleep ?

ann so sorry to hear about your DD and it is so frustrating when you are miles away and can do zilch about it.
