Last month I had to see a hospital consultant about minor surgery to my arm. After the consultation, as is usual, he wrote a letter to my GP and as normal now I received a copy.
The letter started: 'M0nica is a charming and very fit lady of 73'. As you can imagine I have been dining out on this opening sentence ever since.
Last Friday I was standing in the supermarket queue when a lady with two children drew up behind me. The little girl, and she was little, in her brand new school uniform, looked at me for a while and then turned round and said to her mother conversationally 'That lady looks very old. Do you think she is a grandma?'
