Words you don't like, please, ladies?

Are there any words which you find distasteful for any reason?
One which springs to my mind is 'panties'. It sounds so twee..

I heard someone say they had 'monetised' their blog - what on earth is that supposed to mean?
Other pet hates are 'pan-fried' - I mean could you fry something in your woolly hat?
And of course 'farm fresh eggs', loosely translated as three weeks on the kitchen shelf after being produced in some ghastly hen battery.

Luvly jubbly gets right on my nerves

Gather round folks.

minging,

pinch - this is my OH, 'can I just pinch an apple? '
You paid for them!!!!

wifie - though I have to keep quiet about that here as I understand it is a term of affection.

I dislike people being described as 'liars', particularly when the phrase is 'you liar'. Awful.

MissAdventure Fri 01-Sept-17 18:15:00

My mum would never allow us to say that. We had to say "fibber" - it doesn't have half the impact.

'Y'know' about 3 times in every sentence someone speaks. Unfortunately DH has got into the habit of this. It is driving me mad. Any ideas about how I can tactfully ask him to stop?

I also hate belly, bum and tits, all horrible words.

I read a death notice the other day and it said that the person had 'transitioned'!

Atqui Fri 01-Sept-17 19:02:31

Tits
Pimple
Toilet

Nelliemaggs Fri 01-Sept-17 19:07:14

My hates are few but I loathe 'your/her majesty' and 'your/her/his highness'. Ridiculous in my eyes in the 21st Century.

GrannyLondon Fri 01-Sept-17 19:08:43

Wow..... I've started saying it now. How did that happen?

Also politicians ( for it is usually they) who say look when they mean listen.

lemongrove Fri 01-Sept-17 19:16:28

Who calls you that Nelliemaggs ?Wish I could train my DH to.?

nanaK54 Fri 01-Sept-17 19:18:59

Kids
Chavs
Slag
Slagging off
Belly
'change your bum'
strollers - want to scream they are pushchairs

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 01-Sept-17 19:22:28

I hate 'panties' too - I imagine it being said with a salacious dribbly grin like Benny Hill or a sex-starved teenager.
A phrase I dislike is 'quarter of a century' - it's nowhere near as long as 100 years so why not just say '25 years' - it smacks of trying to make it seem grander than it really is.

Cherrytree59 Fri 01-Sept-17 19:22:50

Lavvy
The bog
The old cow
The wife
Her indoors
Pushing the envelope
Thinking outside the box
All a pain
but I the ones that are like a nail on the blackboard are......
Frock and gussetshock

MissAdventure Fri 01-Sept-17 19:28:38

That last bit sounds like a pub name, cherrytree
'Ye olde frock and gusset'
grin

rubysong Fri 01-Sept-17 19:29:48

Lounge

Katerina5 Fri 01-Sept-17 19:34:09

I too hate "amazing"-but actually it's more the frequency with which it is used.
Radio 2 presenters appear to not have any other adjective to describe anything good which actually may not be that amazing!

charliebb Fri 01-Sept-17 19:42:15

'End of' irritates me!

sluttygran Fri 01-Sept-17 19:57:13

Ooh I would so like to be a serving wench at Ye Olde Frock and Gussett!

Cherrytree59 Fri 01-Sept-17 19:58:47

grin MissAdventure now you come to to mention it.
Better than the Old Cock and Bull!

MissAdventure Fri 01-Sept-17 20:03:31

Would be fun working there.
"Now then girlies, lets be having you!"
We have some "Amazingly moist muffins, made by my current wifey"
Come in and have a "couple of cheeky scoops"

NannyMags Fri 01-Sept-17 20:13:43

The use if the word sic meaning good I believe!

maddy629 Fri 01-Sept-17 20:25:45

Anya I could not agree more, well said.

maddy629 Fri 01-Sept-17 20:28:16

I hate the word ladies especially when it is being aimed at me. I am not a lady, I am a woman.
