Hang the washing out

Put mine out every chance I get. I love the feel of it and the small of it when it's dried in the garden. Everyone along our road hangs washing out, most have a line which some leave out and some take in. Ours is on a rotary so I can hang it standing on the patio when the grass is wet.

Recently moved to a flat which, although it has a large communal garden, the "rules" say "no washing lines". Goodness knows why, there's plenty of room for all 6 flats to have a rotary line. I miss drying things outside.☹️

Drying outdoors means hopefully the powerful rays of sun get to clothes to provide extra level of cleanliness. I take back in before fully dry then finish with iron and indoors airer or maybe onto a radiator or hot press in winter.

I always hang the washing outside if I possibly can. I love the clean, sweet smell when it is brought indoors. The previous owner of our house left a very good tumble dryer. I gave it to DD. She works so can wash only at weekends. The tumble dryer is a God send to her in the winter. We manage very well without

I live in an apartment so I dry my clothes on a clothes horse or airer for those who don't know what that is. I have an airing cupboard, we manage ok. We do have shared garden with a rotary line behind the garages but I don't use it
I do miss my garden I could hang my washing out nothing like drying your washing outside.

I always put the washing out on the line if it's a nice day. I have 2 big lines on a retractable reel so they just wind up when not in use. I have a tumble dryer which is useful in Winter, or for just finishing off things off the line if they are not completely dry. I am always mindful of the electricity bill and think it's a waste of money to use the dryer in Summer.

Where I live in London there is a covenant that prevents us from hanging washing in our gardens. Occasionally I cheat a little and lay towels on chairs outside. Nearly everything is dried on an old fashioned clothes rack at ceiling height which is winched up and down on pulleys. I do have a washer/dryer but very rarely use the dryer.

We have a washer/dryers and DH and myself each do our own washing. He uses fabric softener and tumble dries everything as he says they feel to rough and hard when line dried. I do not use fabric softener as I find the smells too strong and by preference would line dry everything. We don't have central heating so when the weather is too cold or wet I hang most of my clothes on an airer and put it in front of the gas fire in the living room. At his insistence towels are tumble dried but sheets go out on the line.

I hate putting washing out on the rotary, most times it either isn't dry when I bring it in or it rains, even though I do check the weather forecast first.

We have a utility cupboard where the boiler and hot water tank are and it's always warm in there. I have an airer in there and 80% of the time that is where I dry my laundry.

I do start the towels off in the tumble dryer as I find they get fluffier, but that's the only time I use it!

I put the washing out when it isn't raining or too cold. My fingers go white if they get cold, and I lose feeling.
So the answer is yes, in summer, and no, in winter...

l also hang washing out at night, l have a balcony. l have hay fever so at night the count is low. no space for a tumble dryer anyway, l have an airing cupboard that had a tank, its got rails & even a little radiator in there

Absolutely not! I get a huge kick when I see my washing flapping away in a good drying breeze. Mind you there's a reverse bashing when I'm ogling the goggle and haven't noticed the rain starting. Ugh! I'm much too mean to use the tumbler.

I hang out laundry all year round. Look at weather forecast, then choose best drying day. Have several washing lines on patio, so can create an outdoor Chinese laundry effect!

Always dry outside if theweather is good.

I put the washing out whenever possible. I love the smell specially when I iron it. I also have a line across where the boiler is when the weather is bad. Tumble dryer for emergencies or a quick fluff up for towels

Out of curiosity I went out and wiped the rotary line , bit of kitchen roll showed no dirt , clothes have never shown dirty peg mark either , I have been told to shake the washing to get rid of pollen , but since I got old and stiff I just grab and dump it in the basket

I love drying my washing outside when the weather is suitable and I just love the smell, particularly of bed linen. The only exceptions are towels which go in the drier come rain or shine for that lovely fluffy texture - imo nothing worse than a rough,board-like towel line-dried in the summer sun

Sorry, got to do another post having read above. I don't take my pegs in or wipe my lines because they never get dirty - perhaps no pollution here?! And I often leave it overnight because the early morning sun does a very good job. Also people who check on other people's washing habits really ought to get a life!

I'm lucky to be able to have washing lines and just love to see the washing blowing on them. No tumbledrier so there is also a small line in the greenhouse and clothesdryers with dehumidifier indoors in the warm bathroom.

I agree with Day6, I love the sight of a colorful line of washing billowing out in the wind on a 'good drying day'.

I like to hang mine out on the line whenever I can. Years ago in small London bedsits with Terry toweling nappies there was nowhere to hang them or a tumble drier.....so we lived festooned with drying Washing. Funny after all these years how it still feels a luxury to have a washing line.! I use a tumble drier too...for those quick emergency dries or when it's raining.

I love hanging out my washing & have it smell so lovely & fresh. In the winter I have a marvellous heated airer that can be programmed to make use of cheaper nighttime fuel. My tumble dryer is in garage for emergencies only.
The only neighbours I can see hang their washing out too.
