I Meant To

I meant to do a lot today, before it really started:
I meant to be all washed and dressed before DH departed.
I meant to put the washing out and give some clothes away,
I meant to sort the bedrooms before family come to stay.

Before I went to bed last night I made a silent vow:
Today my home should smell of polish – but seems I don’t know how!
I meant to swish the cat bowls and wipe inside the fridge
And throw away the mouldy cheese – told DH I did!

And I really did intend to walk ten thousand steps and more
And post that overdue birthday card and clean the bathroom floor
And be that kitchen goddess who provides a manly meal
To welcome home her hubby – but instead Iife will reveal…

A rather grimy coffee cup and litter on the side,
The laptop still recharging and the washing still undried
And a score or more of meant tos that still need to be done
Cos I’ve spent the day on Gransnet, simply having fun!

(I can't be the only one! grin)

Ah, that's good news merlot - well done indeed as it has been all change this year too and much harder by all accounts! sunshine

When I woke up this morning there was one thing on my mind,
DD2's results are out so please let them be kind
Her grades were just amazing - her hard work has done her proud
So now I'm here considering if boasting is allowed
Oh, what the heck, I've done it but a curious thought remains,
If she's in the top percentage just where did she get her brains? grin

Seriously though......Well done sweetypie

Nanny27 your posts only appear pink to you so they are easy to distinguish, they are green to the rest of us.

NonnaW Thu 24-Aug-17 16:48:50

I've washed and ironed
I've vacuumed the floor
The dogs have been walked
I'm doing no more!

Nanny27 Thu 24-Aug-17 14:29:09

Thank imperfect. Pink is fine for me but everyone else's post appear green! Oh well..

greyduster that made me laugh out loud!!! You painted such a clear picture.

Reminds me of the time when I was newly divorced and began studying for a theology degree. My dad came to visit and I was in the middle of translating some New Testament Greek -trying to teach myself the rudiments. He just shook his head and said ' A man wants a woman to cook his dinners for him, not speak Greek to him!'
Bless him!

This is not domestic, so I am going off piste, but I wrote this after one of my first fishing trips. It is true!

I was fishing on a reservoir, casting flies into the gale (it was bloomin' windy!)
When I hooked into a good sized trout (it felt more like a whale);
As I tussled with this denizen, prayed my line would not give way,
Two old guys walked up behind me and blithely said
"Good day, Lad; Tha't doin reight well theere.
Don’t give 'im no slack and tha'll bank 'im, never fear."
I turned around and gave them
Both a nod and cheery grin, '
Twas then their mouths fell open
As if I'd socked them on the chin!
"By 'eck! It is a woman! '''Tis a lass beneath that hat!
"By 'eck! A woman fishing 'ere! Would you ever credit that!
Then "can we give a hand, lass? For tha's hooked a feisty thing!"
I assured them I could manage, so they stood back, muttering.
When I got my monster to the net, it surely did me proud,
But the muttering continued and then one chap said out loud
"Can't ever see it catchin' on, this 'women catchin' winners'.
They're only good for two things: dancin' backwards; makin' dinners!"

Want Tos ... smile

I woke up to my ‘meant to’ list.
Suspect, in fact, it’s grown …
And not expecting it to shift-
It’s mine and mine alone!

But sun is shining, sky is blue
There’s shopping and a lunch in view,
And BBC says ’Walkies!’ too
So much that I just want to do.

The ‘meant tos’ will just have to wait
The ‘want tos’ promise far too great
And I was born to procrastinate!

Phoenix on Radio2 Wednesday is often referred to as 'the hump day' of the week ... I have taken this to mean the day that needs to be got past ...
In work terms it has always been a long and grotty day with meetings on the end for me, so always glad to see the back of it and get closer to the weekend.

One way or another, my judgement is, this calls for pudding!!!

phoenix Wed 23-Aug-17 19:18:55

Wednesday is a day that I don't work,
And I always have such plans,
Sort out the kitchen cupboards, restack the pots and pans,
Hoover through, change the bed, clean windows, the whole hog,
But Wednesday always seems to be the day I fall prey to the Black Dog sad

P.S. ... Nanny27 I think pink is simply the new green and helps us locate our own posts on a thread - I rather like it! smile

Mind you - GHQ - am waiting to hear that it is not gender neutral enough for some!!! grin

Another day wasted???

The day is done, the housework not,
But I don’t care a single jot!
The wine is poured, the TV’s on
And apple pud will soon be gone. (Thanks Auntieflo!)

Thank the Lord for comfy jamas,
Elastic waists and glass half full,
Today I didn’t go bananas,
Bod like jelly, head like wool…

Meant to do so many things,
Meant to clean and sort and cook,
But content, my heart now sings,
Soon be time to read a book!

Thanks Gransnetters for a day
Of dilly, dallying and nothing much,
Just laughing with the world once more,
Never lose your unique touch!

merlotgran Wed 23-Aug-17 18:02:02

The victor has returned, it seems he won the friendly match,
They finished at the pub so they could drink his winnings -Natch!
I knew he would be starving which was more than just a hunch
Because when he left this morning he forgot to take his lunch!! grin

Greyduster Wed 23-Aug-17 17:28:49

And Merlotgran I really hope your DH caught some fish.
To have a fishing day myself is just my dearest wish;
But the plasterer is coming, so it'll be muck up to the nines
That will have to be cleared up before I can claim tight lines!

Greyduster Wed 23-Aug-17 17:08:04

On Monday and on Tuesday I did, frankly, not a lot;
The house is very dusty and the garden's gone to pot;
My grandson stayed here overnight, so Wednesday's a lost cause;
We swam, and drew, and cricketted, and played games without pause.
But now his Dad has fetched him, and I'm sprawled out in a chair,
Thinking of those jobs undone.
Oh b****r - they're still there!!

callgirl1 Wed 23-Aug-17 15:58:14

I have a pile of ironing,
It`s been standing there all week,
I got up early to get stuck in,
But nowt`s done yet as we speak.

I need to do that ironing,
So I`ll just have to suffer
The aching legs and poorly back
That plague this sad old duffer.

Nanny27 Wed 23-Aug-17 14:01:07

And while I'm here I'd like to know, what you lovely people think might be the reason all my posts have changed from green to pink?
