We went to Ikea. Never going to go during the school holidays again. Why do yummy mummies think it's OK for their little poppets to run around and climb on things? It's a shop not a playground. Fortunately we knew exactly what we wanted so didn't have to stay too long whilst Felix, Imelda et al ran amok. Later we went to B and Q. Not a yummy mummy hang out so it was much better.

I had to get my handbrake looked at as a matter of urgency. I live in a hilly part of London and my car recently took the notion that backwards was best. I was amazed at how little I was charged, how good the coffee was, how quickly and efficiently it was all done and I was escorted to my car with somebody holding an umbrella as we were in the middle of a monsoon early am.

Then a trip to Waitrose to get a loaf of bread and some dosh and then home. I looked at the kitchen floor but unlike phoenix I have not yet got around to cleaning it. It is really cold here but I refuse to switch on the heating in August.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-Aug-17 17:32:44

Me too phoenix

It reminds me of Miranda as well as Heather Small.

I've been what I call busy today.

Every time I see the thread title, I find myself adding (in the words of the song) To Make You Feel Proud.

The song is then stuck in my head for hours!

Thanks, Vamp ! grin

But, in answer to the question, not a lot, really, it's one of my days when I don't go to work, so in theory I should have been bustling about doing housework.

However, the reality is that I popped to Lidl and cleaned the kitchen floor blush

We're going to a campsite near to Berwick upon Tweed. Often we wild camp or use Britstops but we prefer proper sites when we have the children with us. It gives them more freedom. Our plan (subject to weather lol) is to enjoy the beaches, visit Berwick upon Tweed, go to an English Heritage Roman day at Hadrians Wall, visit Lindisfarne and have a couple of days in Edinburgh to visit the Castle and the Museum of Scotland. We'll leave Violet in a park and ride and catch the bus into Edinburgh.

There is so much to do in Northumberland. On the way back to Yorkshire we're going to another campsite near Consett. Originally we were going to Beamish but we saw a programme about the Lady of the North (Northumberlandia) and we were all so taken with it that we're going there instead.

I'm looking after my son's dog while they are on holiday.
The dog is constipated and this has led to some interesting problems. I won't go into details in case you are eating your tea/dinner. grin

Where are you going with the camper van. Being a moto homer myself I'm always interested in where people go.

callgirl1 Wed 09-Aug-17 16:22:41

Good luck with the cat Franbern, our Mia was a rescue cat, we`ve had her nearly 5 years now.
As to what I`ve done today............bugger all! I`ve got no end of things to be getting on with, but just can`t be bothered today, my middle names ought to be Bone Idle!

Greyduster Wed 09-Aug-17 16:22:37

Spent most of the afternoon trying to set up DH's new iPhone. Talk about Mr and Mrs Numpty! We did get there eventually......

With regard to opening to this thread, I live very close to an ikea, and often pop in there during normal working day to pass a couple of hours. Sometimes have lunch there. However, earlier this year I accompanied a daughter to her Ikea branch on a Saturday. She had to go to return an item. On the way there I casually said I would treat her to lunch. What a shock I had when we went to the cafeteria. Long, long queues. Never again at a weekend!!
Today, I have visited my local cat rescue place (accompanied by a g.daughter). Have been 'passed' to take one of their animals to join me in my home. Was not permitted to make a definite choice today as I cannot have it home for a couple of weeks and they only reserve for up to 7 days. We did enjoy petting and playing with many of the animals there.

Found places in the van for all the dry food we'll need on holiday. The idea is that the less I need to buy the less we'll spend as we won't be wandering around unknown supermarkets looking for things and buying extras.

Tried to tidy up but the house is full of stuff ready for the van refit so it looks messy all the time regardless.

Got the washing done and dried ( yay)

Had terrible night's sleep last night. Dragged myself out of bed about 9am-rushed breakfast, had shower and DH and I made it to church in time for coffee before service started at 10.30. Church packed as just one service during hols. DH said I looked all right despite bad night-I said "that's called slap!" Lol! Back home, hung out washing left on. Quick lunch then couple of hours in garden joined by DH who is now recovering well after his hip op went all wrongsad
Did ironing as DGC tomorrow so won't have time then. Listened to Bach Mass in B minor ready for choir restarting end Aug-it's not easy! Meal was remainder of Chinese takeaway from yesterday (not rice!) then visited elderly neighbour. She really is her own worst enemy-made mental note (again!) not to be like that when I'm in my nineties and listen to advice from them what knows. Then typed up DH's tribute to his brother who died last week in Oz-it was lovely, some family history which the Ozzies might not know and a few funny anecdotes from their youth-should raise a smile. Then onto Poldark. . . .

Started to spring clean ready to go away. Don't want the burglars to think I'm slovenly grin

FarNorth Sun 06-Aug-17 20:37:25

Vacuumed inside of car so the garage guys don't think I'm a complete slob when it goes for its MOT.
Might even wash the outside of it too.

Oriel Sun 06-Aug-17 20:08:08

Went to supermarket and found I'd left my purse at home!

Had a lovely day walking in the beautiful Holme Valley, as usual making up our route as our map made no sense (definitely not us at fault, oh no). Followed by a well deserved Sunday dinner and a pint of Wainwright's in t'pub. I had my photo taken with a cutout of Nora Batty and sent it to the family with the caption Kindred Spirits. Nobody disagreed. grin Looking forward to Poldark now - feet up already.

I hope your little one's home soon, Moneyboss. What a horrible day you've had.

Cherrytree59 Sun 06-Aug-17 19:20:55

Had a trip out with DH to Kenilworth castle.
smile

Morgana Sun 06-Aug-17 19:18:46

bikergran Sun 06-Aug-17 19:15:39

ginny Sun 06-Aug-17 18:35:49

Glad to hear that Moneyboss.

We have been to Ellesmere Port waterways museum. Worth a visit. Had a picnic. Back to caravan site , feet up and a good book for an hour or so. Out for dinner in a while.

Moneyboss Sun 06-Aug-17 18:00:42

Spent this afternoon at the hospital as DGD (4 months) was rushed in last night with suspected meningitis. It's looking as though it's not meningitis, which is good news and she's perked up a little today.

Nanabilly Sun 06-Aug-17 17:57:45

Had a lie in this morning after a bad nights kip .Hubby gone off to a horse show with dil and grandson as he is her "groom" and he loves it . He had a horse of his own when I first met him but he sold it soon after. I have cleaned up , Done a pile of ironing and sorted holiday clothes and toiletries for going away next week .Now I am waiting for everyone to get here for a roast chicken dinner and I hope they turn up soon as I'm starving.

Greyduster Sun 06-Aug-17 17:01:13

Went to the Botanical Gardens and couldn't find a parking space anywhere so kicked that into touch and went to DDs to check on their house as they are away. Got there, wrong bag, no keys. No keys means no coffee, no loo! DH did some weeding in her front garden, collected some rockery stones she had put aside for us and we came home. Did some ironing. Had a long, rambling mostly one sided conversation with SiL ?‍♀️. Now considering what we are going to have for dinner.....?. Thinks: Can I get away with boiled eggs? Hmm. Nooo!

merlotgran Sun 06-Aug-17 16:50:19

Three lines of washing!!

Had visitors since last Monday. DD2, DSiL and DGD2 stayed until Wednesday then DS arrived for a three day fishing fest with DH.

I'm now slumped in front of the telly with a large mug of tea.

LadyGracie Sun 06-Aug-17 16:36:37

I've just come in from weeding, I've been out since just before 9 with an hours break for lunch and to prepare dinner. Time for a soak in the bath now then a relax for an hour with my knitting.

BBbevan Sun 06-Aug-17 15:46:24

A little sleep !
