What have you done today?

fiorentina51 , sounds a perfect day.
Today my daughter collected my 10 yr old GD who had been here for 5 days , and yesterday my 15yr GS came to stay for 2 days, he is going out to a military event with H tomorrow, thank goodness for the school summer holidays , but they go to quickly for my liking.

Today was the final day of my dear step grandson's visit. Three days of entertaining a very lively 10 year old.
We have spent most of today building a wiki up in the garden together with my friend and her partner and three of their 5 grandchildren.
Most of the work was done by the elderly adults as the kids rampaged around the garden!
A campfire and a meal of hot dogs followed by toasted marshmallows sandwiched between chocolate digestives was enjoyed by all.
Later we were "entertained" by the girls as the two boys took on the role of technicians and provided the music for the various dance routines.
I am now clutching a cheeky glass of red wine, the house is a tip and my husband is snoring in front of the TV.
Totally content! ☺

Went to our local pub for a free lunch because we supply them with veg, herbs, edible flowers, salad stuff etc. Bartering works a treat for us

The usual chef was on holiday and the new one - very young but eager to please, couldn't seem to get his head around my gluten free requirements so I settled for something I hoped would be OK as I didn't want to keep on at him. It was delicious but obviously not totally GF because I spent the afternoon doubled up and felt so grotty I eventually went to bed.

The owner is lovely so I'm going to have a quiet word with her!

Volunteering all day, enjoyed it but knee didn't, too much standing still. . Sun out when I got home so off to the sea front for a coffee and a short stroll on the beach to stretch the legs, or more accurately the knee. Easy tea and now joining ann with the wine.

H has just announced he is going to bed!!

Such a boring day comparing it with most of you.
I managed to shop yesterday and so pleased when I got up to a very damp morning.
I have to rely on public transport and taxis.
My H who has Alzheimer's is no help to me at all so did everything needed including all meals. He did not like what I cooked for our evening meal so his meal went in the bin and I am now on my 3rd glass of wine!!
I hope very sincerely you all make the most of what you have. It can change in the blink of an eye.

Spent 2 hours in car sales room buying a new car. Picking it up on Wednesday . Very excited!

Been to Chichester Festival Theatre this afternoon with DD and DGD to see "Fiddler on the Roof" which was wonderful. Omid Djalili was Tevye and Tracy-Ann Oberman played Golde. Both excellent as were all the supporting cast. Now got the songs firmly playing in my brain! My favourite musical so I don't mind.

DH and I have just survived a wonderful family bbq. We've been dogs sitting DD1's two dogs for the last two weeks and they arrived last night to pick them up. The rest of the family decided to descend too as they don't all get together very often. The noise level from DGC in our garden was quite embarrassing, I think the neighbours are quite pleased they don't get together too often!

Just back from seeing Miss Saigon. Oh my goodness. It's the third time I've seen it and the second time for my sister, who came with me. Lots of sobbing ladies, including us, leaving the theatre.

Not a lot. Woke up with a painful knee, so decided against walking to town as planned. Baked a rather nice chocolate cake instead for a family party on Sunday and did admin. Including another application for Specified Adult Childcare Credits, having made a mullock of the first one. We had our delightful 7 month old DGD while our DD had a couple of hours to herself, we loved it, she's such a joy and a great little character. Later DS and DIL are coming for the weekend, they're both so laid back and relaxed it's going to be lovely to have them here.

They are great dogs and all got on so well at first meeting, all are care visit dogs and bring so much comfort to people they visit.. My dog is the black one ,x

I didn't sleep well last night and here I am again tonight! DD is getting married next year in France and it is keeping me awake! We are going next week to see the venue, book caterers, taste wine etc. Hard but someone has to do it .

Not as busy as grannyactivist but did a 60 mile round trip to buy DH trousers, picked our Victoria plums and went to the cinema. We saw Scribe, a French film with subtitles which was very good. A tense thriller and good for practising my French!

Walked the dog this morning whilst reflecting on how fortunate I am to have a beautiful river meadow just a minute's walk from my front door.
Spent too long this morning trying unsuccessfully to find details of a birth certificate I need; in the past I've always been on Ancestry and thus have been able to obtain GRO numbers, which makes ordering certificates easy - I no longer have a subscription and the person I need it for isn't reliably able to give me his parent's names. Fruitless and frustrating!
Walked the dog - so calming. Had a brief nap because someone was singing outside my house until 3am and left me sleep deprived.
Took a telephone referral for two homeless people who needed practical help and later went into town and met with them. Also met a colleague briefly to discuss ongoing work. Went to the shops and purchased sleeping bags as our stock is depleted - we get a charity discount from Mountain Warehouse and the staff are always very helpful.
Went to the care home where I'm Chaplain and sat and read a bible passage to a very dear resident who is at the end of her life. She didn't wake up today, but we have an agreement that I will continue to read to her until she passes away.
Got home and walked the dog - eventually joined by my husband when he arrived home from work. The Wonderful Man took one look at my tired face and insisted on making dinner tonight and giving the dog his late evening walk.
Went to bed and again was woken by revelers so now I'm wide awake, but really tired. I'm off now to sleep in a bedroom at the back of the house where the noise from outside won't disturb me!

Decided, on the run, to go and see the new M&S, in a nearby town. Just managed to catch the bus. Took prescription to Boots. Onto another bus, and we all thought the driver had gone the wrong way, but only a diversion due to huge building works. Coffee and pastry in Costa, (other chains were available) .Had a quick mooch round M&S, nothing to catch the eye. Into Waitrose loking for some lovely cheese, but it was not in stock. Bought a small water bottle. Loooong walk to the bus station, due to the town being regenerated and more huge building works. Back home for a cup of tea. Drove to local garden centre looking for cactus compost? pots and small stones. Nothing. But, I did buy a bit of garden 'naffery'. It's two little glass and metal birds on a balanced perch that moves in a breeze. I love it and it's now installed. Then booked a table for an early meal in town. Super. Home and both stuffed. Hope I don't get indigestion, and my back isn't aching. Good day in all. Nothing much acomplished, but lovely after being stuck in all day yesterday's monsoon like rain.

Busy morning catching up with ironing and housework.

The two eldest DGSs came for tea this afternoon. They're 21 and 19 so I felt a bit like the Queen offering cake and sandwiches. It only seems like yesterday it was pizza and chips after school.

Most of the conversation was about Donald Trump!

Woke up, made coffee for us both. Read some of my book. Got up showered and washed hair, came downstairs had another coffee and a banana and Greek yogurt, faffed around on computer, drove to the gym for an hour, came back made a sandwich for lunch, faffed about on computer some more, went to Sainsburys for our evening meal and walked to a couple of other shops, drove back home, faffed about on the computer, watched the news, prepared our evening meal, ate it together, on the computer again now cos husband is watching golf [yawn!] will go upstairs and read book in a minute How little I have achieved today

Had a meet with 3 other dog owners who also have care visit dogs, first time we have met, all dogs had fun playing together and owners all enjoyed a coffee and cake afterwards in a local cafe.

Stayed in all morning waiting for contractors to fit our new smart meters, neither of which have worked since they left (but I'm pleased to see my next bill is estimated to be £0 ). Reading group at the library then a little walk to the shops with two dear friends, and a mocha at Maccie D's which I really enjoyed even when I realised it contained more calories than my lunch. Now making soup with DH's surplus allotment courgettes - how nice that I'm still apparently using no gas or electricity. These smart meters are truly magic.
