MOT Bah!

Car MOT this morning. It has been an expensive year with new cam belt, new tyres and new brakes at earlier service time. So I am hoping that this will be uncomplicated ...
Feels like the car equivalent of going to the dentist!
Glad I have a garage that I trust, but even so I am not looking forward to the experience. Is it just me, or do others mind handing their keys over...?

And then there is the 'what to do' with the time. Tried to organise catch up with a friend, but she is busy. Garage is on outskirts of a city and I will have to walk a considerable way to get to anywhere interesting. Could all be over in 45 minutes ...do I take a book and just sit it out? Then again - if repairs are needed I will have a good chunk of morning to fill. Ah decisions, decisions ... My money is on a walk and finding a coffee shop ... But MOT day - bah!

You have my sympathy sympathy. In my book, it's worse than going to the dentist!

I use a garage that will pick up/deliver for no extra cost but only if you have a service and MoT test done together. If it is just the MoT I wait as the garage is in the middle of nowhere. Don't like doing that as I find garages such blokey places. I agree it is just like going to the dentist and I hadn't thought of this years until reading this. Oh bum!

Sorry Alima! smile

The garage I use is very reasonable - but no frills.

I had forgotten about the 'blokey' element ...double bum!!

I get OH to follow me to the garage in his car , I drop off the car and we go home and they just ring when it's ready can't bear sitting around waiting wink luckily it's only 10 mins away.

My man that collected and delivered has now retired sad it was great as he would get it tested, do any necessary work and take it for retest then deliver it back to me all in a day. He was a diamond and for any little jobs would not charge as I'd been a customer for 15 + yrs.
I now use kwikfit. Pricier than some places but Tesco with cafè is just over the road.

The local MOT place caters specifically for ladies. There is a waiting area with coffee and papers and they seem to charge less too- £25. DH was sceptical but also a bit jealous too.

Update ... well, it failed! Have to take it back in on Monday for relatively minor repairs and re-test. More the inconvenience than the cost that is the bother, sigh. I was actually quite hopeful when I walked back to the garage as the car was sitting outside and I had not had a phone call, but no such luck ...

How lovely to have someone sort you out all in one day. I was offered a slot tomorrow, but already have a commitment so had to defer to Monday. Still MOT only cost £26 and they are including parts for free for repairs, 'just' 2 hours of labour to pay for so could be worse.

A good few years back, hubby spent a fair bit of money, and a lot of time working on the car, to make sure it passed it`s MOT. He thought he`d covered everything, but it failed........because one back light cover was a different shade of yellow to the other one!

callgirl1 what bad luck!
Earlier this year we had a wedding to attend some distance away and were also playing chauffeur to DH's elderly parents. I had the car fully serviced in advance, new cam belt, new brakes and 3 new tyres ...
The day before we were due to go away we discovered a puncture!!!

My car has just had it's very first MOT and passed. But a few days later the driver side seatbelt seized up and could not be pulled out. I thought we would have to bite the bullet and pay to have a new one fitted but then discovered that I had one week of the three year warranty left - sorted!!! Not my usual sort of luck!

DD takes my car for it's MOT and picks it up again on her way home. The chap we go to is very good and never does anything unless it's necessary. He's also good at saying "I can't charge for that it only took 5 minutes"
