It's absolutely pissing* down here at the moment.

*non-rude use of the word. Getting it out there. I stand up for misunderstood words ☔️?????

granjo39 Wed 26-Jul-17 22:21:27

It's only water

It's only water

It's been coming down in stair rods here today - and we were out playing cricket in it for a while ( ten year olds don't seem to notice the rain when they're enjoying themselves!).

downtoearth Wed 26-Jul-17 22:09:41

Its been persistantly precipitating for days here in Norfolk

downtoearth Wed 26-Jul-17 22:08:39

Persistant precipitation

It's been Storting down here( near Alnwick) and we had a family reunion in a marquee at the weekend in the garden. Very cosy listening the rain as we huddled together.

As I sit watching the garden getting soaked I am doing a Pollyanna and feeling very glad that I am not on holiday, or worse, living, in the south of France with the wildfires! Think I'd rather have rain any time.

I too love a nice umbrella but, sadly, can't cope with handbags, shopping, carkeys and umbrellas so I have a horrid, flimsy, collapsible one in my bag. It keeps doing it - collapsing that is!angry

goldengirl Wed 26-Jul-17 11:57:25

Yes, it's pouring here too, just as we're taking charge of little people for the rest of the day. Last Saturday 6 of them played out in the rain and had a wonderful time - my floors have not been the same since grin

KatyK Wed 26-Jul-17 11:02:49

We have had torrential rain here in Brum this morning.

gillybob Wed 26-Jul-17 11:00:31

It's "wee-weeing" it down here too Baggs its all we have had since Sunday.

I do like a nice umberella. My current favourite is a navy flowery one from Joules that i got as a present form my DGC.

BlueBelle Wed 26-Jul-17 10:52:39

We ve had beautiful summer until last weekend when I went to fetch my grandkids for a holiday by the sea It's rained or been windy dull and cold every day since what do you do with three pre or young teens in bad weather oh dear it's a bit if a nightmare, no car and not unlimited money it cost me a small fortune going and getting them

Maranta Wed 26-Jul-17 10:44:28

It's spitting with rain here.

nanaK54 Wed 26-Jul-17 10:28:57

'chucking it down'

Thankfully not here - my washing line is full - don't think it will be long though

Agus Wed 26-Jul-17 10:26:49

It's pelting down

It's bucket ting out there

Baggs Wed 26-Jul-17 10:21:35

agus, grin

Baggs Wed 26-Jul-17 10:21:14

Raining stair rods.

Agus Wed 26-Jul-17 10:03:39

GD1 aged 12 told me with a wry smile that when it rains it is just god crying. When I saw the pissing down rain drench my two newly planted heucheras and we are attending a wedding on Friday which involves a marquee, I shouted at him to dry his eyes or change his aim.

Not being one of his followers he will probably ignore my plea.hmm

Baggs Wed 26-Jul-17 10:03:19

Slight diversion... Minibags has gone out on some volunteering thingy today. I said she could take one of the old umbrellas that hang on the back of the outhouse door because I don't mind if she loses one of those (I also said she needn't feel obliged to lose it).

Guess what, she has taken my favourite, also old but precious, lovely Italian umbrella. Sigh.

Some of my forebears were umbrella makers in Leeds.

grannysue05 Wed 26-Jul-17 10:01:54

Raining cats and dogs.

Baggs Wed 26-Jul-17 09:58:31

Challenge!

How many words describing heavy rain can we dredge up and dump on this thread today?

Go, grans!

Baggs Wed 26-Jul-17 09:57:32

But you did 'bite', alima! You responded ?

Throwing down is a new one for me. I often use dumping as in "the Atlantic is dumping a chunk of itself on western Scotland". It does this a lot.

Nope, not rude, merlot, just a statement of fact. ?

Anniebach Wed 26-Jul-17 09:53:46

Nothing yet in this part of Wales but it's on it's way and I have to check a barn which needs roofing. Why didn't I do this yesterday , grrrr

kittylester Wed 26-Jul-17 09:47:00

I got to the hairdressers at 9 and it started raining at 5 past.

It's not pissing down yet, it will start that as I leave!?☔?

merlotgran Wed 26-Jul-17 09:37:58

It's forecasted here later on although I think it might be sooner rather than later.

The masses are descending next Wednesday so I wanted to work on the bit of garden close to the mobile home where they will be staying. Cosmos has collapsed (due to it pissing down on Sunday) across the path and everything looks bedraggled.

Looks like I'm going to have to tidy out the kitchen cupboards instead which is a job I've been saving for a rainy day.

The thought of it is pissing me off. Is that a rude use of the word?
