Do you ever wish...

I had a great day yesterday at my grandson's year 8 goodbye assembly...moving to high school in September.
There was lots of laughter and cheering. The 'new' headteacher was so funny and witty and the 'old' head arrived to tumultuous applause. A great day !!

vampirequeen the OP was a teacher I believe and to suggest she isn't intelligent is ironic and VERY rude of you.
Her post was funny and tongue in cheek.

Many years ago I was in a production of "The Rivals" at secondary school. I know my parents thought it would be too highbrow for them but they dutifully attended. They enjoyed it so much that they came to the remaining performances.
Agree with Tokyojo3, having also worked my socks off, as my pupils did, and having seen many children blossom and achieve things they thought they couldn't.

My granddaughters live in Dubai, so I only get to see the videos. I love these and am grateful to my daughter-in-law for putting them on Facebook.

I may be completely out of touch but in 10 years of attending primary school Christmas/leavers concerts no-one EVER left before the end. If you only had eyes for your little darling I feel very sorry for you. Children take great pride in their performance and if you can't appreciate their enjoyment well, frankly, you're a sad git.

Perhaps they need to pick some better plays - there are some very funny and witty plays which are suitable for primary pupils to perform.

tokyojo and musicelf maybe it isn't until as a teacher you've done all the hard graft, the persuading, the building of fragile self-esteem, the sharing of elation after a good performance, that you really appreciate the work that goes into these events.
It's discouraging that so many here find attendance a duty and a chore but delightful that others enjoy the end result.

10 years retired now and that sense of teamwork with the pupils is probably what I miss most about teaching.

I absolutely love them I always have a tear in my eyes but feel so privileged to have been asked to attend.

I attended my DGD's first nativity last year and I have to admit that I welled up at all the little ones remembering their lines and looking so innocent and sweet I know they aren't all the time though. Kudos to the teaching staff who have to coax 4 and 5 year olds, right at the end of a long term and with the children being tired, excited and nervous. I couldn't do it.

I love watching my dgds in all they do, I am very pleased to be asked, they would be very disappointed if I didn't turn up, their singing, dancing and drama productions are a doddle to when I used to watch my boys play rugby, football and hockey in the most dreadful weathers, would have given my back teeth for a small hard seat in the dry, have to say am utterly proud of all of them

For various reasons I was no longer a Christmas person .
That was until last year
My 3yr old DGS was in his first nursery Nativity play .
In that one moment the meaning of Christmas came back to me

I love watching children seeing their little faces so proud and the little waves when they see their parents/grandparents they sing and dance their little hearts out . Must admit could do with a more comfy seat though !!

I enjoy the plays that they put on at the DGDs' school - but they do pick some funny ones which are really enjoyable and the children are just brilliant!!
All full of enthusiasm - and one little girl is someone to watch out for in the future as an actress (not one of mine, although both of mine have lovely voices not inherited from me btw).

And yes - so much hard work goes into it all - thank you teachers.

Mind you, this is primary school, we have yet to have a DGC go up to senior school.

I used to be a teacher and I've produced many, many of these shows and services. I know the work that goes into them and the way the children feel about them. I wouldn't not attend or spoil them for the world.

We had to send a letter to parents telling them that they had to stay for the entire performance after the Christmas concert when the audience gradually dwindled after each year group had performed. It was heartbreaking to watch the older children's faces as people stood and walked out during their performances.

That still doesn't remove my wish for Homer's brain

I enjoy going to these occasions I feel privileged to be included I've attended my gs year 6 leavers assembly today theses are the things that make memories and as a person who works in a primary school I know how much it means to children to have the support of their families don't be misery guts sit back and enjoy

Both my boys went to a small C of E school. The staff and children all took part in end of year musicals. The hard work that went in to the production was obvious. The children put their hearts into their performances and every time it was a great evening. I am glad I never missed my kids concerts because it gave two, otherwise quite shy kids a chance to shine, show they could do it, and because they were not themselves whilst on stage they could let rip.

I loved going to DCs and DGS plays and concerts but hated sports days with a vengeance. Luckily, when DC went to their senior schools they practically begged me not to go. Much too embarrassing for their parents to attend !!

I would love to be able to go to something like this, but with DGS in Somerset and me in London it's not likely. I confess I enjoy schadenfreude when other kids do badly... I'm a BAD person!

Ah gillybob - I posted with a smile and just thought the OP was tongue in cheek. I have loved seeing all my children 'performing' - some precious memories, but there is definitely sometimes a 'painful' element to some productions and always some poor child that finds it awful / can be seen to be a bit overwhelmed and you can't help but feel for them. Sometimes 'productions' are over-ambitious and over-long and if the sound isn't sorted it can be painful all round - without taking anything away from the joy of seeing my own do their bit.

There really is no escape for me as eldest DS is an actor and I have attended many an opening am-dram night. He is very good (honestly - not just rose tinted glasses), but some performances remind me of earlier school days!!!

I love to go always cheers me up.

We are very involved with our older grandchildren aged 10 and would not miss these occasions for the world.Although they are twins they are in different classes which means 2 assemblies every term as well as everything else.Marvellous.I agree about the chairs though and am glad they are no longer in the Infants.We have watched these classes growing up and I love seeing how the other children have developed too.We know lots of them by name.

I hated being in anything as a child, so I'm prepared to sit through anything that I have been asked to attended by my grandchildren . They all seem so much more confident than I ever was. Grannies pride helps cope with the subject material ?

I get really excited when we are going to the Nativity events. I look forward to it more than to a night out at the theatre.

I really can't believe some of these posts. Poor kids if they only knew.

I love seeing the little ones singing, dancing acting. They grow up too quick and often lose that childhood confidence. Make the most of it while you can. Makes me feel quite tearful.
