Why do you come to Gransnet?

I come here to avoid the reality of my life and enjoy the banter (even if it gets a bit hot) , My Mum said I would read anything even the Sauce bottle during tea

What draws me to Gransnet is to discuss politics with like-minded people.

Yes, but is it not stimulating to discuss politics with people who have a different viewpoint?
Opens up the mind to other possibilities?

I like all the different points of view but I've noticed recently that some posts can be quite harsh. Even someone that just wants to pass the time of day can be shot down by someone that says there are more important things going on, as there are but sometimes it's nice just to chat like you would to a neighbour over a garden fence.

I come to enjoy light hearted chat in places like the kitchen , it gives me a small insight into other people's lives and helps me remember there's always someone with more to bear so I'm grateful for what I have.

I also come to get another point of view on something I'm interested in.

I never play the 'games' and I generally avoid the political threads .

Oh yes.... I come for the virtual cake !

No, I bet you weren't Rigby - thing is, most of us been on here a lot longer than you have and know more than you do about other members. As I said before, unpleasant mind...

Must you resort to sarcasmRigby ? I agree completely with roseslast post.The meet ups are fun and are a way to get to know people and make new friends.

Rigby are you djen's minder? Just wondering.
I know djen has had a tough time and so have many others but they may not share their sorrows on an open forum.

Sometimes going through bad times may make people more sympathetic to others, sometimes it may make them feel that others should toughen up.

I liked your post seacliff - but I admit to entering the competitions, usually when I see that someone has won something and it reminds me!!

To add to the OP.....I have met so many lovely people at the meetings, and this slice of reality just adds to the appeal of Gransnet.?

Rigby......you are amazingly solicitous towards djen ( not that anything bad has been said about her) oh if only you would be so caring about other posters ( those that sometimes don't agree with you.)

None of those were what I was referring to but either way, it was an unneccessary comment. Lots of people post about their past lives on here but of course you only have a go at dj.

To be recommended to new authors

To find out opinions on TV and films to see if they are worth watching.

I have tried to 'mostly' avoid political threads where some Gransnetters are quite nasty to each other.

I have also learned to avoid saying the following words which often cause a hooha . Daily Mail and grammar schools.

To get advice on medical matters.

To join in a few virtual parties. I thoroughly enjoyed organising the GN Olympics. Some of the comments were hilarious.

I'm sure there are other reasons but it is someone else's turn now.

OK Rigby - past life as in former home towns, vegetarian B&Bs, broken writs, home schooling - none of these were posted on the political sites.

I'm sure you'll find some objection, but I'm past caring...

I like the News and Politics threads, discussing books, TV and cinema, and sometimes there are some good laughs, cartoons, etc.

At times I find it informative. The general chat and I am amazed at how kind many people are.

I also enjoy the monthly meetups with 3 other GNs and we having been doing this for over 3 years now.

I also communicate very regularly with two others via email and that allows each to get problems off our chests without family or anybody else knowing.

The general comradeship as others have mentioned but I do not like the bickering especially on political forums. Many times I feel I need to wear my tin hat more often.

I like the humour I often have a good laugh. The advice from people of a similar age group as myself. I don't feel so alone when I settle down to read what's been going on in Gransnet.
