Aside from the virtual cake obviously... grin

It would be really helpful for us to know what you like about Gransnet, and what draws you to the site? Is it the general chatter and social aspect, the advice, the competitions, the word games, the articles, the webchats. If you were to pick your top three (or if you can't think of three then just one will do!) reasons for logging on, or what keeps you coming back, what would they be?

I enjoy the forums with lots of discussions on many parts of modern life and, despite some disagreements, a lot of support for people going through difficult times.

Anniebach Thu 20-Jul-17 21:05:31

I am not royal, not perfect, but I am Welsh - same thing really grin

aggie Thu 20-Jul-17 21:02:31

I love a good parry back and forth on politics , but only at home and face to face , definitely not on here

Elegran Thu 20-Jul-17 20:46:58

Then there must be a lot of errant royal blood around for so many different posters to come up with the same comments about the unpleasant ambience of the political threads.

This was started as a thread on what most draws posters to the site. It seems to have revealed what annoys most about the site, too, and provoked a demonstration of the rattiness that makes some threads unpopular.

Chewbacca Thu 20-Jul-17 20:41:49

Well..... I came to GN because I came across from MN because I was finding some of the posts and subjects there too combative and I just wanted to chat really. I very much enjoy the games threads and the general chat topics and I've developed a very nice friendship with a couple of fellow GNetters through those forums. I read the News & Politics threads but don't join in very much for the same reasons given by other people on here. There are some lovely, kind and thoughtful people on GN and there are some people that I'd cross the road to avoid in real life! But that's the case in every walk of life isn't it?

rigby, that's 3 times today that you've told other posters to "shut up", did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:18:12

Well you know what they say about the road to hell.... at least I don't think I'm perfect unlike some of you lot on here who really think all you are entitled to do is moan and complain about a group of us from your lofty heights of utter perfection. I'd respect you more if you had the slightest bit of self awareness but you just think you can carry on criticising some of us over and over again with snide nasty comments . You moan about bullying but you are past masters at the art.

Cherrytree I am sure I drove my DM mad when I was little - reading all the notices and adverts on the bus.

'No Spitting' - "why would anyone spit on the bus, mum?"

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:13:16

Oh dear, I am sure Lara started it with the best of intentions.

wot Thu 20-Jul-17 20:12:55

hmm

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:11:27

And shut up again - what a bloody waste of time and effort.

Cherrytree59 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:11:03

I'm also sauce bottle reader. smile

Chat and sometimes even a chuckle

Information (medical and travel have been excellent)

I feel its good to have a different view point or slant on issues.

Tips on anything and everything.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring on GN

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:10:34

Oh just shut up - this thread is bloody ridiculous and childish - and I count myself in this. We are just using it as an other excuse to have a go at each other. Pathetic as I've said earlier today but then I'm just a little shit aren't I and not part of GN royalty - i.e. Those who can do no wrong.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:10:10

'How to Win Friends and Influence People' could be a good read Rigby

You may not want 'friends' per se, but certainly there are ways to influence people or help them on the path to righteousness.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:07:48

I don't think the politics thread is for an elite group harrigran - although some may think they are.
It is more like an itch which is very annoying but you have to go back and keep scratching even if you know it could make it worse.

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:06:08

And you harrigan - goodness, this thread has really allowed people to crawl out hasn't it?

Initially I joined to have a wider circle of people to talk to but in the six years I have been here I think of some as friends and some even like extended family.
I love the humerous anecdotes and often laugh out loud, I have also felt incredibly sad and cried with others.
The good morning thread lets me know who is up and about and if I don't see a regular I wonder if they are alright.
I am sad that JBF remains locked out whilst we have a couple of quite nasty posters who get away with much worse.
I am assuming this is a fact finding mission to see which threads are popular, I think you can be sure that the politics one is popular but only with an elite group.

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 20:01:12

Oh here we go again, GN royalty!!!

Emmaline Thu 20-Jul-17 19:58:09

I want to be able to interact with others and enjoy a good exchange of ideas and general chat .. there's too many days that I have to spend on my own because of being disabled .. and I love to have a good moan! (-:

Darnsarf Thu 20-Jul-17 19:57:10

No Rigby46, you just want an argument. You could cause an argument in an empty box.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Jul-17 19:57:06

I used to read the sauce bottle aggie - 'Cette sauce de haute qualite est un melange de fruits, d'epice orientaux etc etc
(with a few accents thrown in)

Rigby46 Thu 20-Jul-17 19:54:02

Ah but Jalima for that to happen, I'd want informed different viewpoints - hardly ever happens

Darnsarf Thu 20-Jul-17 19:53:27

I don't post very often but I enjoy reading the general chat forums, style advice. I would have liked to have joined in more on the News and Politics threads but they make unbearable reading because of the nastiness and personal insults thrown around. I do feel that some posters try to drive off anyone who doesn't agree with them and it's only the very brave who stay and continue to post. The main culprits are those who have already been named and shamed on this thread but they know that already! grin
