Well it could Blinko but don't you think you would have to think really hard about whether GN was the right place for you if that happened? I really don't think it is likely. No one, should it be possible and GN agree, which I actually doubt they will, has to use it but those I really don't think those people who don't want such a thing should dictate to those who might.

It certainly would!

The thing about the 'hide' is you get to choose not to see those which are meaningless to you. Everyone who finds them meaningful can continue to read them and they can hide the person they think makes meaningless comments. It could be you or me (I know that's difficult to believe) but we would never know and the occasional person we decide to hide wouldn't know either but they would stop winding us up.

By meaningless, I mean literally those that have no meaning, not those you just disagree with; those posts by people that add nothing to the discussion, but feel they have to make a comment, otherwise people will forget they exist. A bit like trump's tweets as opposed to Obama's.

I do sometimes question why granset don't allow things that other forums do eg 'hide' and 'edit'. If other forums didn't allow them I'd understand but I feel that they don't think we're capable of using such facilities correctly .

Who are you to decide who's posts are meaningless? What gives you the right to decide that they add nothing to a discussion? When you own your own website or forum you will be able to decide who does,and who doesn't post their comments. Until then you'll just have to get used to everyone having the same rights to post their comments, however inane you may find them, whether you like it or not.

I can decide what I think is relevant to any discussion and can decide to ignore that person if I want. It has nothing to do with anyone else.
Just saying a hide button would make it easier. Nothing wrong with that.

No post is meaningless, they mean something to the person who wrote them.

That's just meaningless Darnsarf. Anyone can have an opinion about a post being meaningless. We are talking about one person choosing not to see another persons posts. Perhaps you haven't read the rest of the thread but just decide you want somewhere to be angry but, as an example, me not seeing your post would not stop anyone else seeing it unless they decided they didn't want to interact with you - all individual decisions. You will be suggesting we have to read every thread next - people don't you know.

Darsnsarf's post could be very meaningful to someone else though, so it's wrong to say that it is meaningless. It is a matter of opinion - or semantics.
