Oh dear Sleepyamber, don't be put off.
Has anyone else noticed their energy levels change as they've got older?

Aside from the virtual cake obviously...
It would be really helpful for us to know what you like about Gransnet, and what draws you to the site? Is it the general chatter and social aspect, the advice, the competitions, the word games, the articles, the webchats. If you were to pick your top three (or if you can't think of three then just one will do!) reasons for logging on, or what keeps you coming back, what would they be?
Oh dear Sleepyamber, don't be put off.
I enjoy reading the forum but when I posted recently asking for advice I was hurt by some posters cruel and harsh replies. I'll never seek advice on here again.
Some of the user names fascinate me and I wonder how some of them came about!
In fact, some are extremely witty (wish I had thought of something witty).
A couple of the names I liked best seem to have disappeared from GN, more's the pity.
I like to read the general chat, it's good to know I am not alone in my thinking about various issues. Also I've picked up some useful tips along the way.
Best wishes to all Gransnetters!
I've only been coming on to GN for a few months and have been a bit surprised at some of the personal nastiness goes on between posters - I find it difficult to understand why anybody would bother to come on just to slag people off. I'm also aware that some posters have clearly known each other for a long time and seem to react only to each other's posts - are these the GN "royalty" somebody mentioned? But there are many others who interact with everybody and this is great. There is genuine concern for others from most of the posters and many who need a bit of support. I'd like to think we could all give support and ask for it if we need it, that's what I thought GN was about.
I have picked up some good tips about various things . I like recipe site and I like some of the competitions . Gransnetters often give me a laugh and sometimes make me want to cry .
I'll thank you not to be throwing aspersions around about my Graham rosesared. we don't ant people avoiding the Argy Bargy because of his little passengers, do we
Thank you, that's good to know
I am afraid I am a lurker but really only because I tend to look at GN in the evening and everyone has already said very articulately what I am thinking. I think the advice on the whole is very thoughtful and kind and it makes me admire the posters enormously. However, I know politically I do not feel the same as most of you (am pleased when WW, DJ etc post) but I love reading the political posts although I can see none of us changes our views. The Brexit debates have particularly fascinated me. I had foolishly imagined that as we heard more and more about the difficulties of leaving, people's minds would change but views seem to have hardened. So what I like about GN is the window it gives me into other people's minds.
I've been on GN for a few years now, but can't remember why I joined, or when! I love it though. Mainly reading the forums to see what other people think about things.
I am mainly ignored but am used to that now, and figure it's my own fault anyway as I am boring. I don't like being contentious, generally, and discovered ages ago that some posters can be, er.. a little sharp, at times.
I think mainly, because I live alone, that I find comfort in knowing that other posters have the same problems and worries that I have, and reading about how they deal with this.
The posts I dislike most are when a well known person is criticised, sometimes unpleasantly, and I feel that as they can't answer back that it's unfair.
Mostly GN is fascinating and mostly you all seem lovely.
I like the relationships advice and experiences, health, style and beauty and I even like the politics stuff when there are robust disagreements, why not- I quite like a bit of banter occasionally, I don't think it should be all fluffy and non confrontational..
Lara..... you will be scratching for real after a visit to The Argy ( Gaston has fleas.)

Same here. But I'm also interested in politics - try to leapfrog the arguments and make a point. Sometimes. but just catching up as I'm out of touch now.
whew! It's the scratchings I was most worried about really
I just like to see what interests other people and what they are concerned about.
Interesting that there are several names on this thread that I don't recall ever seeing post before. That is just an observation I hasten to add.
Those of you that are fairly new and say you feel ignored. I have been here since a month or so from the start of GN and my posts quiet often don't get a response. I've just learnt to roll with it.
I? GN
Don't worry Lara we are already in the Argy stocking up in preparation for tonight's debacle festivities.
Or just to have a sit down.
Not enough virtual cake (or wine)
to thank you all enough for this. It's so interesting and useful for us to see which bits of Gransnet you like the most (and least). And it's also great to see new users (or those who don't post very frequently) add their thoughts too. Please don't disappear again now! There are plenty of interesting conversations on today. Or you could always retire to the Cafe or the Argy for a refreshment (though the word is that the Argy is low on gin so you may need to bring your own...)
To relieve the boredom of everyday life.
The threads can be so funny. I read some every day
To share with women of my own age; to be amazed often at opinions and views of different matters in life that really do make me think, and often cause me to change my way of thinking. I look forward to sitting at the computer with a cup of tea and logging on to join in, and of course to often laugh! All wonderful medicine.
General chat, advice and competitions
I was accused of being 'a man' early on but didn't let that put me off..... and have checked every day since and still think I am a gran. I suffer from depression and it is so helpful to see how other people cope with life's problems and how 'normal' family upsets are.
I try to be supportive and am shocked sometimes by un necessary vitriol, on what is by and large a very kindly place to meet up.
I miss being out in the world more and especially miss my friends who have died and are of course irreplacable. I am lonely often but only lonely for the people I have lost not found any voluntary work or coffee morning to fill the void as yet.
It is a bit like the bus journey to work, same people getting off at different stops every day, nice to know you are all out there.
Firstly because I subscribe to The Oldie. Then I stayed because it seems to me that thus site is predominately female and the content could benefit from the occasional male input. Lastly because there are some matters on which I have sufficient knowledge to make useful (I hope) comments.
