Inequality at Wimbledon

I know ourkid, just saying my experience of noise in a previous year! - and still no restriction..

Mr and Mrs in that order stems from Master and his Mistress (i.e. servant!).

I like the commentators, - exception being Andrew Castle - they chat between play not during play and I like statistics

devongirl Sharapova wasn't at Wimbledon this year (just sayin' ...).
There were plenty of other shreikers/grunters/screamers though. Absolutely awful, especially when the roof was closed.
The thing which really annoys me though is the inane whittering of the commentators - I am NOT interested in anecdotes from their playing past/what they think the players are thinking/comments about what a spectator is wearing etc..... Even endless mentions of statistics regarding service points, return points etc are annoying. Grrrr.... My DH suggested that I stop complaining, so that he can watch in peace - what can he mean?
Having said all that, I now feel a bit better, and this was the best Wimbledon for a long time.

Wheelchair tennis is not as exciting , people are not going to choose to pay to watch a wheelchair match over a match between Federer and Nadal, so not inequality, just choice of the public.

I was at Wimbledon for the semis on Friday and there was wheelchair tennis being played on the outer courts and to be honest the seats were only a quarter full. So maybe this maybe the reason.

I also hate hearing the shrieking, grunting and groaning of some of the women nowadays. It never used to be like that and I would hate to be in the audience. I think that it should be stopped.

Carol, did you hsve to remind me of Inverdale , oh I wish he would take a few months off when we have the Seven Nations,being really truthful I wish he would retire.

I love the traditions of Wimbledon, men in red or green? Yuck, Williams not Miss Williams? Yuck, move the finals off the centre court? Rob young players of their biggest dream? No way.

I'm with Anniebach and like the women being Mrs and Miss. But the shrieking is really off putting. The worst thing about Wimbledon ( and several other sports)? John Inverdale!

The argument that men should get more money as they play more sets is ridiculous - should Hussain Bolt get less money than a marathon runner?

I know I will get grumbles but I don't care, I just want to say I hate tennis, all my favourite tv shows have been taken off just to show the bloody tennis.

I like the women being addressed as Miss or Mrs, it's Wimbledon ,leave it to carry on as usual

There was a piece of Womans Hour this week about whether we still need titles - eg Mr, Mrs and Miss - particularly when signing up for things on the internet. Following this I did think it was unnecessary at Wimbledon for the umpire to be calling women players either Mrs or Miss - obviously it is not important to know whether women are married or single. I think it is time all players were just known by their surname

why in the oscars and baftas etc is the male actor top of the bill?

I agree about the noise jus, watched Sharapova play at Wimbledon and the noise was horrendous, it must have been incredibly distracting for her opponent (not to mention annoying for the audience!), I really don't know why it's allowed.

Lol radicalnan, the bikes are watched here too. Although they are getting a bit predictable at the moment, WSB especially. Love the BSB.

I think the top tennis ladies could make a longer match entertaining, that's probably why bringing five sets in from quarter finals onward would be good.
They do need to stop all the screeching that goes on, and also stop the "net" calls on serve. And also sort this time before serve thing, put a clock out there to make it clear and stop the umpire interruption during serves.

I think one set of tennis is ample and football matches should end at half time or when someone does something to merit any sort of penalty.......cricket is for the radio but only when listening outside and accompanied by a picnic.......don't get me started on the Olympics.........boring!!!!

Now motorbike racing is heavenly but I have to be there for the smell of the fuel.....and the riders.

as with most athletes (not footballers) its not ABOUT money ,actually for most people in any walk of life if they do a job they love they aren't doing it for the cash.Loads of actors for instance do TV or fils to make a decent living but love going back to theatre and its not massive wages there

It is a concern that so many of the men players had to drop out with injuries - something like 9 or 10 of them. I presume it is hard for them to miss tournaments as it influences their ranking and then the tournaments they can be admitted to. But with such huge prize money I would be tempted to call it a day fairly speedily, having earned enough for the rest of your life.

Why not 3 sets for both?
