Duct tape and WD 40 important part of your survival kit.

The downpipe on the guttering on my house is currently held in place with duck tape. Luckily, they're both grey so the casual observer won't see it.

I once mended a leak in a roof with a nappy, a plastic bag and duck tape. I worked so well we never replaced it. I always wondered what the new owners thought when they ventured into the loft space and saw it.

My OH once did a small job in WD's office and the MD told him his favourite use of WD40 was to get sticky labels off. A few year later they ran a competition for your best use of WD40. I won 1st prize (a camera), insider knowledge ?

You also need a dainty little claw hammer in your kit. Mine lived in my handbag for a while - can't remember why!

Second WD40 and tape. I used to carry a small screwdriver, and a fold up 'universal' tool, pliers, screwdriver, wire cutter, as well as a small swiss knife, scissors, nail file etc.

WD is good for spraying on pots in the garden to stop slugs eating the plants

A locksmith told me to spray WD40 into the keyhole to cure a sticking key. It worked a treat and saved me having to get the lock changed. The poor bloke did himself out of a job!

My dd was surprised and maybe a little dissapounted a few years ago when I gave her her own tool kit as a Christmas present. No woman should be without one, and keep it hidden from DH.
My D H has discovered where I keep my tools, so I have to check them often.

If I have no firelighters for the woodburner, I spray the kindling sticks with a little WD40, lay coal and logs on top and then put a match to it. Obviously you have to be careful, but no accidents after 40 years so far.

A few years ago DDs gave me a Black and Decker drill for Christmas along with a set of plastic plugs and drill bits. My very full professional tool box is indispensable. I go through skips, too. Three WD40s in the garage along with duct tape and araldite.

I have a splendid brass hammer that unscrews at the far end to reveal a a set of screw drivers inside! It's v useful, everyone should have one.

I am sorry I didn't know about WD40 and the snails , I have an ex Hosta plant which would have benefitted from a few squirts

Yes I love Gorilla tape. So far have fixed rain pipe at allotment and plastic bin for recycling at my daughters.
Wd40 I always had at work ,nursing in the NHS,. Amazing what bits of equipment it kept going.
Now retired, I have a can at home and at allotment. Amazing stuff.

My car had a gentle argument with a lorry on the Dartford / Southend / Tibury / roundabout (before the lanes were redone and made clear this year) - an apparent 50/50 and we both agreed not to make an insurance claim. My DH stuck gorilla tape on the crack in the back bumper ...that was over a year ago and it still holds .

On the basis of this thread, I think I'm going to buy some shares in WD40.

Can't bear the smell of WD40 so couldn't use indoors (makes me cough & sneeze) but I will try it on Hosta pots

I always have a can of WD40, screwdrivers in various sizes, small hammer, fuses, superglue & pliers in my (small) toolbox.

Duct tape on vericurras is one of the treatments on the NHS treatment for information sheet. And it works
