Hairdressers

..hairdressers to me are on a par with dentists ...scared of both!...my hair is really thick..really curly...and have never had anyone cut it properly..? so I tend to do as Joaanna Lumley does and chop it myself...not good..haha...wish could find a really good hairdresser....

I once had hair breakage due to bad highlights and it took about a year to grow out with regular . I looked like worzel gummidge. An awful time.

I was thinking of going back to complain Welshwife. It was so bad though I didn't want to let them near my hair again. I went to another salon and they were astonished at how bad it all was. One side of my hair was over 1" shorter than the other. In the end I had no option but to have 8" cut off my hair as it was so damaged and Keratin treatments to try to stop further breakage from the highlights.

Its sad because it wasn't a hairdressing chain but a well known local salon. I like to buy 'local' to support industry in the area but it didn't end well for me in this case.

My young daughters use rollers a lot! I think the soft look they give is fashionable again. There's no setting lotion, though, so it only last a day.

I have a wash, cut and blow dry. My hair is short, straight and fine but there is a lot of it.This costs me £30 and to me it is rarely even at the back. This is the best of a bad lot where I live.

My hairdresser does pensioner reductions on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays.I think her cheapness is because she is a couple of miles outside town. My Dd has hers cut in town for£30 and DGD's is £15.I think it is because they have a blow dry which does not last 2 minutes once you get outside.

Yes, I have pensioner discount ( and use it eagerly) I have my hair cut about every 8 weeks usually and highlights about twice a year which keeps it ticking over nicely.The trim costs £14.50 and highlights/shampoo and blowdry costs around £55.

Do any hairdressers still do a discount for pensioners? Always used to see the offer on their price lists but none of them advertise any reduction round here nowadays. Maybe it was in the days of blue rinses.
Hilda and Greenfinch, I dream of paying that for my hair cut. I also keep mine short and cannot see why I am charged £22 for what a bloke pays half that for. I am tempted to try using clippers on mine, with the longest cut, the clippers lurk unopened as I am too scared to try.

I have been paying my hairdresser £10 to give my fine short hair a wet cut for at least the past £20 yrs. I don't have it blow dried as it's so fine it's dry by the time she's finished. I have it cut about ever 8-10 wks.
I keep expecting her to put the price up but she dosen't bless her.

I am the same as hilda. Mine is £10.50 and I go every 3 months.

I no longer have highlights/lowlights as it was becoming a losing battle with the natural grey/white which would keep coming! So I rely completely on the cut - mine is not long but a bad cut looks awful and for some reason my hair then grows in clumps!

DD has the highlights etc still and she went to a branch of a well known national chain of salons and had a cut and highlights - and like you paid over £100. She does have curly hair but when she goes she has them straighten it so she can really see what the cut is like. This particular cut was so bad she rang the manager and was asked to go in and see him - he was absolutely shocked and gave her a tidy up cut and continued to do that every few weeks until normality was restored - took about six free cuts!

Well, I think loose curls are back in now (just when I am trying to keep my hair as straight as possible!), so perhaps a shampoo and big rollers are the latest thing.

I keep my hair short. I only ever have a dry trim, it costs £10.95 at the salon I go to. Mind you, I go every eight to ten weeks.

Blimy - I'd have run a mile if shampoo and set was mentioned!

I do wonder whether to have a cheap cut though after my recent experience... went to a fairly high end salon and had some highlights put in and a trim. I was charged £130 !! Worse still my hair was uneven (I have long hair so very noticeable) and now the highlighted hair is disintegrating. A few days before my appointment I had hair sample taken and they tested my hair's ability to withstand the treatment - they said it would be fine. Thank goodness I only had T bar of highlights or I'd have real problems now! I was very unimpressed to say the least. My long hair has now had to be cut to shoulder length.
