SPIDERS!

Miss adventure I am like you I sense spiders before see them ?I could cold and feel sick and unable to catch them even with pyramid catcher . I know it's unreasonable and tell myself to get a grip but when I see one I go to peices. ?

Probably not, if you don't want to damage its wings. Lure it out with a piece of cabbage, maybe?

That sounds similar to my bee-catcher. You have to be very slow and extremely careful not to damage the insect before you put it outside.

I have a butterfly in the conservatory - they are more difficult still to remove.
It's a cabbage white - should I even try?

I had one of those, but the door on mine would catch the spiders legs when it shut. Plus, it was rather a short handle, I felt. I've seen something on a long handle that has sticky legs on it that close around the spider so you can remove it..

I have a patented spider catcher - a plastic pyramid on a handle with a sliding door at the bottom which goes over the top of the 'monster' and can then be picked up and deposited back outside. I've had it for years and would love to get another so that I don't have to either run upstairs or downstairs to get it - it's always on the opposite floor to the where it's needed! It's also been used to catch tiny mice which my cat has kindly brought in and 'lost'!

I did the glass and paper method once. Never again! The spider started jumping around in the glass, and I couldn't get the door open to throw it out. Tried with my elbows to open the door, sweat rolling into my eyes, and getting more and more panicked. It was awful!
By the time I got the door open I was almost hysterical with fear. Ran outside screaming, threw the glass as far away as I could.. I could never do that again. Just too close for comfort. And a jumping spider. Ugh!

I think you're right Phoenix but to me it's a 'bider' as my youngest GS says. The good news is that they don't run like the big 'uns so I tend to live and let live - or blow on them so they run and hide and then I can pretend they don't exist. Silly I know, but it makes me feel better. We have soooo many I can't keep up.

I am the spider disposal queen in our house. Now birds however, its all the flapping. (Used to get a few in the house but luckily the current crop of cats are useless at catching them.)

If it's on the floor or lands on the floor after hitting it with a newspaper etc you can jump on the newspaper then hoover it up.

However, I do try to save them (jamjar and cardboard method or the plastic insect catcher on a stick, then put them outside.
They then come in again, grinning at me.

Ha! I dont recall miss muffett whacking the spider with an electric tennis bat. Needs must. I tried Hoovering one up, got scared in the night and threw my Hoover out the back door. When I woke up, somebody had pinched it!

At least they are not poisonous enough to kill you in this country.

They usually make a bee-line for me - or should that be spider-line? So they will go for me first!

I can't bear spiders. I'm really, really frightened of them. The idea of getting close enough to put them anywhere makes me feel almost physically sick. I can sense a spider before I see it. Its as if its some inbuilt response.

Spiders do a lot of good, eating up wee beasties we can't see. If you see one, do the decent thing and put it outside. No need to kill them. If I see one in the bath, I give it a hand up and put it on the windowsill where it can escape. What a to-do some folks make!

The very tiny bodied ones with the long spindly legs are probably harvestmen, goldengirl not spiders at all.

Aaahh - leave the poor wee things alone!
As long as they trap mosquitoes etc in their webs I won't disturb them.

Worst of all, it scuttled out from under the bed, stopped in the middle of the bedroom giving me the evil eye before disappearing under the wardrobe. It was one of the big chunky variety with long, sturdy black legs.
Don't know why I don't like them. I know darn well it's illogical. ?

We don't get the brutes since we got the electronic mouse scared , the mice disco to it but the spiders run

We've got loads of tiny body + spindly legged ones. I just wish they didn't keep dropping their food leavings behind but I don't mind them as long as they don't bother me. Cobwebs we have aplenty too. I can't keep up with clearing them and they don't do any harm either. However the BIG ones are a different ballgame. I don't like those at all. I do have a spider catcher but the BIG ones are either too fast or don't fit!!!!

DD1 was playing with her nephew yesterday and was overheard saying that no, the spider probably didn't want to be picked up by the toy crane because his legs were fragile...like breadsticks. I had to gather up my courage before I went to see the monster.

My DD was here yesterday. He pointed out a spider in the hall, and a cobweb on the stairs. I offered him a cobweb brush, but he declined the offer. The cobweb is still there, but the spider is nowhere to be seen.
