How do you spend your evenings?

OP recently said she only watched TV about once a week. DH and I watch most evenings-either something that's on or that we've recorded. We must watch a few hours most evenings. Usually we're glad to put our feet up after a busy day.
What do others do then?

Why can't you bear to watch your flat screen TV JackyB? I'm intrigued...

JackyB Wed 19-Jul-17 11:22:22

Since we got a flat screen TV I can't bear to watch it, even if there is something on that I want to see.

I am at work all day, so spend the evenings catching up on housework, and doing ironing, whilst listening to the huge number of podcasts I have downloaded from the BBC.

Most evenings we watch a bit of TV, there`s never much more than one, maybe two programmes a night that we fancy, the rest of the time I come on my laptop, apart from making our late night drink.

I love "Neighbours" too LadyGracie, then I usually flit between tablet (Gn) and tv. Often there will be a phone chat with a friend or my dc, off to bed about 11pm where I watch tv until I drop off!

At this time of year I rarely watch TV
DH watches sport and Pointless
No TV on during daytime.

If we are at home with no visitors.
Then I potter in garden and play with 2 mad inherited cats.
Catch up on emails and text messages.
On GN of course and Pinterest.
Whilst sitting in the conservatory I either listening to the birds as I'm doing now or listen to some music

Then feet up with good book.
I love the light evenings and try to make th most of them
before its time to hibernate and watch some Scandi Noir (hopefully) smile

When the weather is good, as it has been lately we sit outside and eat, sometimes with a glass of wine often having a read. Don't watch any soaps but have been following a couple of things at 9pm, such as "In the Dark" tonight. Sadly that is my falling asleep time so invariably I'm having to catch up with them on BBC Iplayer, I have been doing that with the new Spanish thriller that was on BBC4 Saturday over the last couple of nights.

I like to sit in the conservatory and read until the light goes, then during the week I get my daily fix of Neighbours, sad I know. At weekends we'll go out to the cinema or for a meal. We usually record programmes to watch on rainy afternoons when we can't get out in the garden.

I used to be a serial letter writer so nowadays I bore people by sending a couple of chapters via email. One friend I have known since we were 21 emails me at least x2 a day and they are never one liners.

I also watch recorded TV, dine around 7.30pm and amble upstairs after 10pm for a shower, bed and then I read until midnight, stroking Tara my cat when she joins me most nights.

Instead of all of this lying around I should be doing a massive clear up of my house.

I am no.5!

6.10pm British time I watch the Debate on France 24. Francois Picard keeps a good balance and as well as that is gorgeous. Tonight it's about Xi Jinping's China.
After that sometimes the Supervet. Then husband takes over usually a film, or poker.
When it's hot here, as today, I go out for a walk with our border collie at about 9pm our time.

gillybob Tue 18-Jul-17 18:02:19

Oh well that's three of us now Ana smile

gillybob Tue 18-Jul-17 18:01:02

Phewwww glad it's not just me then GillT57 . I tell myself that I will only watch two episodes and then before I know it I have watched all 5 ! Well at least you sometimes get a giggle at Corrie. smile

Ana Tue 18-Jul-17 17:58:43

Nowt wrong with Coronation Street - what's the matter with you gillybob? We can't all be spending our evenings doing Worthwhile Things...grin

GillT57 Tue 18-Jul-17 17:55:03

Me too Gillybob! I record it and then when DH is out I settle down and watch a load of episodes back to back, fast forwarding through the commercial breaks!

gillybob Tue 18-Jul-17 17:44:30

My very guilty pleasure is a Coronation Street binge! (I know).

I don't watch much TV (I love gardening programs though) but once a week confess to having a good catch up on all the episodes I have missed. blush

Most evenings I go for a walk on the beach (with or without the little ones), I potter in the garden, do a bit of reading, sewing and listen to music.

No TV but I waste as much time staring at my I pad as many of you spend watching the box. I listen to the radio, Radio 4 until The Archers when I switch off unless I want to listen to the concert on Radio 3.
I read, speak to family on phone or Messenger, go to gardening club or a concert, have a bath and go to bed very very early. My mornings are more interesting, I'm not an evening person.

MissAdventure Fri 14-Jul-17 22:20:23

I usually potter around doing "stuff" in my flat. I'd be at a loss to explain exactly what, but it seems to take up a lot of my time.
Sometimes i'll find something to listen to on YouTube whilst I'm doing said stuff. I know how to live it up!

mimiro Fri 14-Jul-17 22:17:20

walk/run my puppy
eat
put on some good old fashioned rock and roll and dance for
30 miutes or til i collapse
then read or watch tv

Teetime Tue 11-Jul-17 10:51:44

I'm probably the same as most- some evenings DH is at Bowls and then I get TOTAL CONTROL of the TV and can watch various rubbish - if you like rubbish watch Odd Mom Out on Netflix - she's hilarious. Tonight if it stops raining I'm in Golf fun competition starting at 5.3o - we blunder round 9 holes and then have some supper together- DH is at a meeting.

Gagagran Tue 11-Jul-17 10:41:25

I think we need a larks club on GN. I was up at 5 this morning, answered emails, read the news online and had my meagre (banana and cup of tea) breakfast about 6am. I love the early morning feel of peace, quiet and just getting ready to start the day.
By 9pm I often go upstairs, get ready for bed then read in bed until my eyes start to close - usually before 10.30pm.

Any TV is recorded and watched when it suits - sometimes after lunch, sometimes early evening. That's the beauty of recording - you rule the TV schedule, not vice-versa.

DH is more of an owl and gets up after me and goes to bed later than me but as we now have separate rooms it doesn't affect either of us. Win-win!

Jalima1108 Tue 11-Jul-17 09:50:08

I would have to feel ill or have an early flight the next day to be in bed by 9pm!

M0nica Tue 11-Jul-17 09:14:00

I am very like Ginny. I do not really have a regular evening routine. I rarely watch tv, unless I am doing the ironing. In summer I may be in the garden, but all year I may be reading, or knitting or sewing or working on the computer or chatting with DH or go to an evening class. Like Jane I am a lark, so may well just have an early night (9.00pm)

kittylester Tue 11-Jul-17 08:56:56

jane are we twins?

travelsafar Tue 11-Jul-17 08:24:10

During this time of year i am usually outside in the garden pottering and watering plants and greenhouse.
Sometime me and DH just sit with a cuppa and enjoy the evening sun and watch the birds using one of our three birdbaths and enjoy some of their antics.

Its the dark evenings i hate, i do go indoor bowling on a Friday evening and Whist on a Thursday evning but the rest of the week unless something special is happening it the sofa and the TV i'm afraid. o
