Eyes playing tricks

In my old house I had green/white marbled tiles in the bathroom to match the Pampas coloured suite (it was many years ago!) The pattern clearly contained a bird sitting on a rock, but my DH could never see it. As the tiles had been stuck on randomly, the lack of symmetry was obvious and drove me mad!
There was also an ogre with dark curly hair in the bedroom curtains.

I see a face in the marble of our bathroom wall tiles, it looks like a Roman or Greek God!
There's quite clearly a goat in the patterned glass of the bathroom window.
A pink, black and white floral patterned sundress I really like seems to me to have a butterfly repeated in the pattern, it hasn't really, but I can see it!

Oh dear radcalnan, she must have escaped from my looking glass when I wasn't looking.

I started off with floaters then I would see what I described as a 'spiders web' in my right eye, it could be black or sometimes sludgy dark green.

My Specsavers Optician made an immediate referral to the hospital Eye Clinic for testing.

I did not have a detached retina but I have PVD , Posteria Vitreous Detachment. If you read the link it gives a simple explanation but maybe it is worth asking your optician to check your eyes.

I do that. Clouds, wood, patterns.

Example, we had a new bathroom floor fitted and I see a grass hopper in repeated planks and I see butterfly in a wooden coffee table etc.

For a while after my little yorkie, Holly, died my daughter and I used to think that we could feel that she was nearby. Not any more however, our latest dog, Lottie, has, I think, 'chased' her away.

My cat is buried in our garden and I often go and talk to her.I see her quite often, I have a friend who is a psychic and she says cats and dogs often visit owners after they pass. I don't know if it's true or not but I find it comforting.

Oh Cherrytree59 you did give me a giggle and it's nice to know I'm not the only one who does this.

I regularly see dead animals when out driving or walking, they are usually bin bags, tree stumps etc.

I pointed out the swans in the field to my grandkid as we were looking out the train window 'where' 'there' 'Nan they are sandbags'
I too have loads of floaters of all shapes and sizes wandering around sometimes it's like looking through a blooming net curtain but I try to entertain myself by giving them names ....I must get out more

One dark morning on the bus to work I saw an owl on top of a barn several times I started to watch for it every day. When the clocks changed I realized it was actually plastic put there to scare other birds. My OH still laughs about it.

It's been very amusing reading all your comments, but is this phenomenon something which comes with age, or is it just that we notice it more as we age?

I think it's partly to do with how vivid an imagination you've got. The more vivid it is, the more likely you'll imagine what you're seeing. I have a very vivid imagination and my DH says it's like living with the village idiot sometimes!

When my Mum had a water infection she said "I can see a lot of dogs walking down the road" I looked out and saw nothing. She was 90 and I thought this is it "dementia". My brother was later on the phone and I told him, he happened to be with a geriatric nurse and rang me back to say it was a water infection. She was put on antibiotics the following day. Another time it was "blue bottles" under the stairs.

When I look in the mirror I see my mother staring back at me!

Has anyone else been standing waiting for a bus, looked along the road, thought the bus was coming only to realise after a couple on minutes that the bus was actually a multi storey block of flats? Mind, most of the lower floors were lit up, while most of the upper storeys were dark. That was when I realised that I needed specs.

missdeke, my floaters are getting worse. Never mind spiders scuttling, I swear mine turn into mice. What next, rhinos lumbering across the front room?

There are occasions, when the sun is shining and that dumpy little old lady is stalking me, that I set a song playing (in my head) lengthen my stride and walk tall. Best one for me is The Girl from Ipanema, (you know the one, "tall and tanned and young and lovely ---"). Try it. However, I would strongly advise that you avoid glancing at shop windows and be prepared to need a little lie down once you get home.

I don't think you need to worry about seeing your beloved dog. You know he is dead, so you are not going daft. I think this is just part of grieving, which I sometimes think takes longer the older we get, and I am 20 years younger than you, but last time we lost a cat, I took it so hard, I seriously wondered if I would be wiser not to have another. However, I got over it, and we now have two cats. I still sometimes "see" one of my other cats, so I think both our eyes and our memories play tricks sometimes, but that the tricks are really quite harmless.

I thought I saw a lioness once. Turned out it was a Great Dane! )

Magsmay absolutely urine infections can make you delusional, they are sometimes the cause of old people being thought to have dementia. May is very recent, my deepest sympathy, be gentle with yourself as sarahellenwhitney has said

That damn old lady is everywhere & in my case overweight, can't be me as I'm only young & very slim

I've had times when I've mistaken things particularly in the dark (poor night vision), I avoid driving in the dark although I'm ok in well lit areas.

Water infections are well known for causing hallucinations

Magsmay. You are grieving for your dog and it is still to early to expect you to be feeling any better. I still have a weep now and then when I remember the pets I lost many years ago and their funny little ways . I have their ashes as it is this that makes me feel they are still with me. Your infection will not have made things any easier for you and can bring you down. Drink lots of water to flush and hydrate. Your system has had a lot to cope with so do see your doc.
