Eyes playing tricks

Does anyone else see faces in carpet pile or patterns? I think I read that we are programmed to home in on human-like features as a baby.
I often talk to my handbag thinking it is a cat.

Cherrytree59 I get that too, mis-interpreting what I am looking at..

I put it down to a change in our visual perception as we get older.

I had bad cataracts for a couple of years, though they are both fixed now - it started then, mistaking a dark shape for a dog or a person lurking, etc.

On my keyboard they're on the second row down on the right - with CAPS on they become curly brackets: {{{ }}}

I have my fathers ashes in a cupboard - I find it a comfort to think he's still there with us. I see our old cat - or at least think I do around the garden - again I embrace it as having the company without the cost of feeding or vets etc. I know he's not there - so i'm not mad, and I don't care if I'm getting eccentric in my dotage - we have to have some foible that makes us well lived!! I too have the old lady in the mirror bad stared at a bloke sitting on a bench opposite for hours - it was a bush behind the bench had taken on a human form... lost my depth perception, once my error had been pointed out I could see it plain as day!!

I read about this in a cat magazine.
A lady heard a commotion at night and looked out of her window to see two youths kicking what she thought was a ginger and white cat, being cruel and horrible. She shouted out of the window, 'leave that poor cat alone'. They looked at her and ran off laughing.
She ran outside to see that the boys had in fact been kicking an orange and white traffic cone.
To magsmay I hope you feel better soon. I think the only way to get water infections right is to actually drink more fluids though I could understand any reluctance. By fluids I obviously mean tea, and maybe barley water, prune juice or pineapple juice.

I have had trouble with my eyes for the last several years. Just thought it was age. And there is a huge history of AMD in my family, and expected cataracts someday as well.

BUT... I had to see a special optometrist recently as I could not drive at night and found out I have serious nodules on both of my corneas that are affecting my vision!!! It was not arcus senilis as I was told previously (no cholesterol or other related issues with that).

So go and see someone... a proper optometrist, not a high-street one where they change staff with the weather. You might have something that really needs attention. You only get 2 eyes.

In May our beloved dog died and I am just not getting over it and I am 'seeing' him more and more in the house. I have kept his ashes in a box under the stairs and I am wondering if that is not a good thing to do. I never intended to do that. I have been ill myself and was in hospital for two weeks diagnosed with water infection and AF. As far as I know infection can cause delusions, this happened to me, before our dog passed away. Anybody found an answer to this problem as I live on my own and I am eighty four years old I would like to get 'normal' as quickly as I can.

Following the demise of our much loved old family cat my grandchildren bought me a cushion with a picture of what looked like our cat on it as a surprise and put it on a chair she loved to sit on - and when I came through from the kitchen carrying a tray full of goodies I dropped it in shock thinking my cat`s ghost had returned for a visit! (shock)

I think that old wrinkly lady in the mirror must have crept up behind me ........she is also reflected in shop windows ...I tried to turn round and confront her but somehow she wasn't there ...yet there she was again, soon as I turned back !

Driving to the nearest town (yes driving !) I saw a beautiful heron standing on one leg, and it was still there next time I went ....so I said to my friend who was with me look at that lovely bird .....where, she said ? Just there in that field ...I pointed ,,,it's always there...can't see it, she said, but there is a broken tree stump that does look like a large bird ......ooops ! ...by the way, its still there ....

Many years ago, my mum said one day, “Have you seen that gypsy caravan in the field?” I said no I hadn’t, but when I next drove past the field, I howled with laughter to myself, when I discovered the gypsy caravan was in fact a round water container for the horses.
I shouldn’t have laughed….I often get mistaken with things like that now, but I learned a lesson, I don’t tell my children when it happens to me.

Gosh radicalnan funny you should say that, I see an ugly old hag in mine! And the evil thing follows me round looking at me from shop mirrors etc! haha!

I take the dog a walk through fields but sometimes there's cows in one field so I won't go through then. I was walking through and could see black and white shapes moving and thought blast it, I'll just go as far as the gate and come back. When I got there, it turned out to be cricketers in a field on the OTHER side of the river, the umpire etc had black trousers on! There weren't any cows! I was so amused, I tried to tell a man coming the other way but couldn't for laughing, he must have thought I was mad!

Similar thing with us Nana, only it was my Mum and they were white rocks.

When we rented a cottage in the lake district my dil said "those sheep in the field don't move much do they?"
They were shrubs.

I see a fat old woman when I look in the mirror which is obviously wrong...............

I frequently see my cat, who died 5 years ago, in a chair, a bag, a box, a......well, anything really!

Sorry, should have proof read first. She actually mistook a large bush for a big dog (she was petrified of dogs).

That's why police witnesses can't always be relied on! Our policeman SIL says that everybody has their own eye issues and if a small witness sees a tall man , he could be anything from 5' 8 to 6'4 etc.
People even see colour differently....'it was a blue car' ( actually it was a silver car but there was a blue one right behind it.)
Our eyes send messages to the brain which then helpfully ( or not!) makes sense of the object for us and supplies an answer.

A good few years ago I was expecting a friend round for coffee. She was a long time getting to me so I asked DS to go and loo for her. She was just st round the corner, frozen with fear about a large dog ahead. DS told her it was actually a use, and led her to our house!

Oh dear, confession time, driving back from my supermarket shopping trip, in slow moving traffic, wondering why a woman at the bus stop had tartan coats on her 2 small dogs on such a warm day..........., yep, it was actually 2 bags of shopping
