Stressed

This post has no solution except time passing, but I am feeling so stressed right now. We are moving countries in a couple of months. The move involves 3 different countries (our buyer is from one country, we are in another country and we will be moving to the UK). There is a lot to sort out and pack, furniture to sell as we are downsizing, and now DH has gone down with a fever and diarrhoea which has so far lasted 3 days. I know things will improve but right now I need a hug!

Antonio Sending a big warm hug your way. At the moment my situation means that I have to keep reminding myself that life won't always be like this. Hope the move goes well. A past purchase involved the vendor moving to another country and it does complicate things. Hope H gets better soon. {flowers}

I'm just overwhelmed by the support from you fantastic people! Thank you for all your suggestions. DH feeling better today, he still has a slight temperature but the WC breaks are fewer (I could give more details but it would just be far too much information!)
On the moving front, our buyer has just intimated that he would like to move a month before he originally said he would. Aargh!
Just ordered industrial quantities of bubble wrap and hope everything gets wrapped in time.

Talk about stress! I hope it sorts itself out. I really feel for you as I arrived back in UK from abroad with a nasty tropical bug and then was moving out to another country. It's stressful!

Don't forget to take care of yourself. Probiotics, lots of water, etc etc

I'm another port and Brandy vote. My Dad swore by it- I have also been told Brandy and Coke by my GP in the past. I can only face dry toast or rice when I'm on the mend, the drinks get me to that point. Hugs it will work out - it has to.?

Hugs duly sent. How very stressful. It is always awful when the partner one relies on for support and sympathy then gets put on the 'to do' list as well. In your case it is made worse by your far-from-home circumstances and the stress of the three way move.

However, time will pass and the eventual outcome, the house in Harrogate, sounds delightful in the extreme.

In the meantime hydrate the patient and take it as easy as you can.

My gran used to recommend grated apple like forgetwho's nurse friend. let it go brownish when grated. The dry toast is good. Also plain rice is good to stop you up and light too for iffy tum. You could just ask the pharmacist. They can tell you what there is. I hope husband is better soon.

I hope the move goes as well as can be. We moved from Spain to UK in 2009 with 2 dogs and 2 cats, but I didn't buy at once. I rented. That did make it a bit less stressful as no chain. Sorting out vaccinations and pet passports was complicated though.

Flat coke is miraculous and very helpful for tummy bugs.
When DH had radiotherapy for prostate cancer, the oncology nurse recommended flat coke [and white rice!] to help, if he did develop a bad tummy... [hug]

Big hugs Antonia.....house moving is one of the most stressful things at the best of times never mind involving 3 countries. I admire you and your husband . Lots of liquids needed for him...sometimes just plain boiled water drank while still warm can be very soothing. Sips of Lucozade can help with regaining his energy. A bug needs to clear from your system so don"t prevent this from happening yet. Do hope he feels much better very soon and your house move goes smoothly. You are going to a lovely part of Yorkshire ( my childhood area) I hope you will be very happy there.

I was just feeling sorry for myself till I saw what you were coping with! Hope things are improving andthe move goes well

Nanabilly Mon 10-Jul-17 10:31:12

I once had compylobactor for 10 weeks and lost 3 stone in weight and my gp told me to try to drink 2 litres of coke a day.
I never drink dizzy drinks of any sort but tried my best. I'm sure it did help.

Hi ! sending hug [hug] and hope things are better today ! We live in France and I often get diarreah medicine from the pharmacist for my husband ...just pop into your local one and ask ! I cannot remember the name and can't find the box..it seems to have disappeared from the bathroom cabinet ...but it is very effective .....he sends me to the pharmacist the next day for Dulcolax ........hope all is well !

Tillygumbo Mon 10-Jul-17 10:29:13

flowers to you both!

Karanlouise Mon 10-Jul-17 10:24:09

Sending hugs and hope your DH feels better soon. I have found that port and brandy helps with tummy bugs, puts a smile back on my face too. Hope move goes well.

pamdixon Mon 10-Jul-17 10:19:32

Do hope DH gets better soon, and good luck with all your moving - sounds nightmareish. But soon it will all be over, and hopefully you will be happily settled in Harrogate.
A big hug coming your way.

Virtual HUGS on their way. Poor you. Hope you have a great day and move goes well. ?Xx

MaggieMay69 Mon 10-Jul-17 10:08:26

Lol it was always brandy (Minus the coke mind!) that my own Grandmother used to have for 'Rotten Guts' as she would beautifully phrase it, and nothing kept her down for long! Hope your DH is better soon! x

Gagagran Mon 10-Jul-17 10:08:25

Good luck with your complicated house move Antonia and hope your DH is soon feeling much better. I swear by dry toast for upset "innards" and an old nurse friend of my Mum used to recommend grated apple. Lots of water too! (Probably a bit better than the brandy!)

moxeyns Mon 10-Jul-17 10:08:04

Hope things continue to improve, Antonia, and the move goes well!

I've used the coke cure many times in the past - letting it go flat makes it easier to drink, I find. I reckon it's the phosphoric acid content killing everything it touches!
