Summer of 69

Passed driving test in January '69. Gave birth to first son on Christmas Day. Can't really remember the summer!

Summer on 69 was one of the best times of my life and yes met the love of my life. The end of the Swinging sixties and its never been repeated.

Was 19. Also at Stones in the park - very memorable as took my 12 ye old little sister - very hot day!
Went travelling in France with one of my best friends - still holidaying with her now- hitching through France, staying in Tangier and sleeping on Eastern beach in Gibraltar- spent my 19th birthday, the day of the moon landing in Avignon in view of the famous bridge with a crowd of youngsters from all over the world.
Working in a beach bar in Gib my friend had to return home for health reasons and once I heard that my hero Dylan would be at IoW festival I also returned. Was tanned and slim and a hippy - loved my life and am grateful for those times!

I was 9, and as we had moved away from the island, I used to go back and spend every school holiday with my beloved grandmother. That summer she and her cronies were all up in arms as the were convinced the Festival-goers were stealing the milk from their doorsteps each morning! I remember that when we went down to the beach it was full of exotically-dressed folks sleeping on it, and Nan would click her teeth and steer me away to quieter bits of the beach!

Just finished my GCSC Taking typing lessons, stayed with my gran and come home for weekend. Looking for jobs.

I left UN in Rome got married and moved to Arizona

18 years old, what a great time. Every Saturday went to C&A got a mini skirt for 19/11p and blouse for same ready for Saturday night. Out on the town in Brum with mates. Great music and not a care in the world, wonderful time to be a teenager. Went to silver blades ice rink and skated to "if you going to San Francisco be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" and we all had a peace bell around our necks. My dad said we looked daft.

just married, new home , new job , threw myself into life wholeheartedly and loved the fashions and new freedom . Joined the new family planning clinic and was fascinated when a fellow member gave up the pill for Ramadan , then wanted to sue as she got pregnant , taking her young daughter along as an interpreter

I was 17 and still at school...my very first real boyfriend worked at a very prestigious bank in London. He went to the Isle of Wight festival with the lads and I stayed at home. Before he left he bought me the Stevie Wonder single "My Cheri Amour". When he returned he dumped me! He had met someone at the festival. The song that was playing at the time when he gave me the news was "I'll never Fall in Love Again". Everytime I hear these two songs I think back to those heady days. Amazingly my niece works for the same bank today, and he was still there up until last year!! Naturally he was never told who she was.

That was the moon shot year? I was working as a Red Coat at Butlins!

I'd just finished my O levels at my grammar school, which I loved, and did well but my first boyfriend had just dumped me and my family hadn't got a phone so I couldn't arrange to see any of my class friends so it was a bit of a lonely summer. I lived on a council estate nowhere my class mates and my family also had no car so it was difficult for me to travel to see them too.

I was 18 working as a nanny to three lovely children. Lived in Weymouth, very slim tanned & fit. I met my DH in 69, he was so handsome, we were told that we made a stunning pair. 48 years later, not so slim or fit or handsome. DH has Parkinsons but still going strong.

I was 24 and teaching at the British Naval school in Singapore. Met DH out there, who asked me out for the first time the day before my birthday. Got engaged 6 weeks later!Spent our time working and enjoying the wonderful opportunities Singapore gave us. Many weekends hiring a boat and spending the day on one of the little islands. Also driving up-country to Mersing, hiring a boat and being left on an offshore island, sleeping on the beach, snorkelling and swimming. Boat would come back for us three days later! Married DH in 1972 on our return to UK, still together, two children and two grand-children later.

Finishing at uni and getting a job.......really easy in those days, hardly had an interview...just a chat!,

Living in Zambia and enjoying every single day. Third DD born. Moon landing had little impact, as seemed a world away from our daily lives. No television to watch the event and many did not believe it had actually happened, as, allegedly, it was not visible through a powerful telescope! [ grin]

I was a toddler so don't remember it at all ??

Finished at college and qualified as a probation officer. Then got married in August - good year!

We had been married for a year, got our house but no furniture till we were given second hand table ,chairs and a sideboard , but we loved it and I polished the furniture every day, saved for our first holiday abroad in Majorca, I made my holiday dresses listening to Spirit in the Sky, Norman Greenbaum, Every time I hear it I am transported back to those happy days, We are in the same house,and it's 49years married year, Where did the time go,

Also living in a bedsit near Chelsea - in the thick of it. Also went to the Rolling Stones concert in Hyde Park. Such an exciting time and always aware it was all ahead of us. Anything could happen. And I could eat anything and remain sylph-like!

Left Teacher Training and looking for work in London to keep myself while studying for Violin diploma. Not the easiest summer I remember, but eventually worked out for the best.

I spent most of that year lying by a swimming pool in Kluang, Malaysia or on a beach in Mersing, Malaysia and a fair bit of travelling round the country. I was 18 and an army officer's daughter.

Newly married. Decided to go abroad together before starting a family. Chose to go to Rumania, had no idea of the political regime there at the time or would not have chosen it as a destination.(MY fault as thought I was being trendy choosing somewhere different). We were trapped in hotel lift several times whilst desperate staff tried to get us to give them our belongings, clothes, handbags, cigarettes, basically anything as they had nothing. We gave them what we could but it was upsetting to see what was happening. We couldn't eat the hotel food and there was nothing to buy to eat only cherries, so lost a stone in weight. On our arrival back in uk the best thing we saw was a fish and chip van. Best meal of my life. Never forgotten the desperate look on the faces of the poor people out there though.

I, too, was 7. Looking forward to a trip to Chester Zoo and madly in love with Davy Jones from the Monkees.
