Summer of 69

I was working in the City of. London where if a job didn't suit, you walked out and were in a new job by Monday lunch time. I often resented the employment agency shorthand and speed typing tests when I produced my secretarial college qualifications, but now realise so many unqualified girls hoped to slip through the net, thinking shorthand was a bit of a scribble at speed. How they didn't get caught I don't know, I struggled to take notes with 100 w.p.m. Under my belt. 120 w.p.m. Was superior but others could manage higher speeds. I still write down messages in shorthand today. I was working in insurance with my best friend who now lives in the USA. She is still married to her first husband from Spain. I married his best friend from Peru but it didn't work out.

15, still at school but that May, met the Love of my life. He was 16. Once I graduated, we married and still are, almost 47 blissful years on

With my wedding planned for September my G'dad was another who placed a bet on Highland Wedding.
I've really enjoyed reading of our youthful experiences - so many shared memories!
Maybe it really was (one of) the best times of our lives!!

We married in January 1969. In July that year we were on a belated honeymoon in Hampshire. We watched the moon landing on tv at 2am in the hotel lounge along with other guests. That evening, we had walked along the river marvelling that such a thing could happen and speculating that some time in the not too distant future, travel to other planets would be commonplace. We're still together, planning our golden anniversary in 18months' time. So far, so good

Yes it was one of my best years - working in a bank for less than £20 a week - enjoyed work in those days being the young ones in the office - first of my summer holidays abroad, but that's probably enough said about that, although I remember it all - brilliant.

The general air of happiness expressed here is to be savoured. Wonderful! I add myself who had been married 15 months, living in Cyprus and son 1 arrived in March. Life could not better have been. We soldiered on blissfully for 30 lovely years until H died very suddenly. Mmmmmm. So glad and grateful I did not miss the many splendoured experience.

mazza245 We were married on the 29th March ,too. My Dad had Scottish ancestry so half our village had a flutter on 'Highland Wedding'. Dad wanted to put a fiver on the horse but we talked him out of it - that was a lot of money to lose in 1969, so he just bet ten shillings instead. He reckoned that he could have paid for the wedding with his winnings if he hadn't taken our advise!!!

Married just a year, leaving in a house, or half a house in lewisham, neighbour in rooms upstairs.
Had a wedding to go to it rained all day, and were flooded out. Great Lewisham floods

In July 1969 we were travelling back to England and were in the middle of the Indian Ocean when the men landed in the moon. We had gone to Australia with two little daughters and came to England with the addition of two little sons as well.

Sitting A levels and awaiting results! The hard work and revision paid off and I went into a career in banking. Was going steady with the man I married in 1971, we are still together.

Was 1 year old, holiday in Ireland, started walking and drove my uncle's car! Well held the steering wheel while sitting on his lap.

We were married on Grand National day in March, a horse called Highland Wedding won! I was 21 that May. Far too young but we thought we knew it all. We are still together, 48 years now. I didn't really think we'd last more than a year or so and we probably wouldn't but for extraordinary persistence and long suffering by DH!

Married abroad (Middle East) in the spring. Living in small flat, hardly any furniture but deliriously happy. Just pregnant with first baby as we watched the moon landings on a friends television but found it a bit boring as could hardly see anything through the interference and didn't understand the language.

Maccyt - you actually saw that butterfly release? What a privilege. I remember hearing about it and thinking how incredible that must have been to experience. ?

Just had a baby, not married, in absolute turmoil mentally and physically. Now almost 50 yrs later, married to son's father for 46yrs, and had a great life. Never thought it would turn out like this back in '69.

I was 18 and working as a Secretary. Unbeknown to me, I was about to meet the man I'm now married to and have been with ever since.

I did my O Levels, dumped my first boyfriend and had foot surgery which necessitated 2 weeks in hospital and the rest of the summer in a plaster boot!

I had my two boys aged 5 and 2. We had a greengrocers in Burgess Hill. Remember buying shortie nighties in poly/ cotton from Marks in pretty checks and wearing them as tops over my trousers. No one cottoned on and they were lovely and cool to wear.

I was 18 and remember a holiday on the Isle of Wight...

I was 18 and at work. Met the man who became DH. Been married 44 years this year. Had many good times together.

You are all so young !!!?

Don't wish to be naughty (especially on a Sunday) but I was told that Brian Adams wrote his popular song 'Summer of 69' was written not about the year but a certain 'position !!!blushbludh

Seems that there were a few of us who were 7 that year.
My sister was born and I kicked the doctor who had delivered her in Mum's bedroom (remember that?) because he had promised me a brother!
