Argy-Bargy Cafe - enter at your peril ?

I'd never dare enter some of the safe havens on GN ??

But does anyone remember Pete's Cafe (?? or something like that??) where those of a more robust nature met to exchange witticisms and the like?

There's no tea and cakes, but a good selection of alcohol ?? and pork scratchings etc.. Dress code is flexible, but no twin sets and pearls (or anything else that can be clutched to bosoms). Cross dressers etc. welcome (providing they stick to the no twin-set rule even if no bosons to clutch to)

I'll try to drop in tonight to see if there are any customers.

All suggestions as to Cafe Rules are welcome. I'd start by suggesting no talk about cats or knitting ?

Don't worry ,some of us in SK aren't as good as we are portrayed. I have been known to drink as early as 7 pm ??

Can we have free samples first? I'm very open minded about these things (especially after a few gins). My DIL does a very nice rhubarb gin, it's a lovely pink colour.

but wont the soop kitchen bunch then want to hang out with us.might empty the kitchen
love a good gin thogrin

Oh, I don't know Anya, home made gin could be acceptable, don't you think? What about if we gave it a "taste test" first, just to be sure? No point in passing it over if it's any good, is there? I just happen to have a gallon of home made damson gin lying about. 5 year vintage, beautifully clear, carries a kick like a mule. Definitely not for the feint hearted. I'll leave it behind the bar.

Shysal you might have to pass an initiation test....try the hash browns!!

Nice one A60

Question to the residents customers...Ash's 'mate' apparently has a speciality home-made gin that's he's offering at rock bottom price. Now the dilemma...
Is this a bit WI (being home-made) sort of against the principles of the Argy-Bargy (like pet cats and knitting)? Ought we to offer it to the inhabitants of Soop's Kitchen instead perhaps?
confused

shysal Sat 17-Jun-17 15:04:37

Happy 60th mimiro. I was boycotting the joint due to the no cake rule. Enjoy your day. flowers Am I being too nice for this caf?

lizzypopbottle Sat 17-Jun-17 14:23:10

Set 'em up, barman/maid (none of that pc barperson nonsense) mine's a Corona with a lime wedge, no glass. It's too hot for anything but a cold beer. What pies have you got? Is that Chas and Dave on the old Joanna? Rabbit, rabbit....

mimiro Sat 17-Jun-17 12:33:41

may have to break the cake rule;
its my 60th and ds's have sent me a champagne cake.
seems the frosting and cake are both made with champers..mmmm
haven't tried it yet its only 7;30am here
going to wake and walk the pup.
everyone have a wonderful day
see ya real soon

mimiro Sat 17-Jun-17 12:26:52

KatyK Sat 17-Jun-17 12:24:56

A large cold glass of Pino for me please. Are there places outside to sit and enjoy my drink in this warm weather?

mrsjones Sat 17-Jun-17 12:05:31

Now this is my kind of joint. Are "outsiders" allowed in? If so, I'll have a pint of rum & black and a large bowl of Blue Nun for me Rottie.

trisher Sat 17-Jun-17 11:42:52

Pearls and twinsets can be left at the door with the doorman (who knows his cultured from his natural) just don't expect them back when you leave.
It's a help-yourself honesty bar bohemian (so if the place stays open more than a week it'll be a blooming miracle)

boheminan Sat 17-Jun-17 11:29:20

Evenin' all. Pint of sherry with a gherkin n pickled egg sarnie - when your ready, erm?..whoever's hiding behind the bar.

sluttygran Sat 17-Jun-17 11:24:19

By heck, them brownies were tasty! Now, I wish someone would chuck the dinosaurs out of the bar, and why is that mermaid swimming in my G&T?

00mam00 Sat 17-Jun-17 11:19:09

Mines a crocodile cooler and make it snappy!

annodomini Sat 17-Jun-17 11:14:16

Sheilasue Sat 17-Jun-17 11:13:51

What no pearls or twinsets tut tut

ninathenana Sat 17-Jun-17 10:53:07

glammanana If I get up now and then and give the bar a flash of me garter do you think I'll be safe from the cleaner ?

POGS Sat 17-Jun-17 10:40:39

downtoearth.

I think a 'special brew' named after perhaps Pete and Gramps would be a great idea.

Pete's Piddle and Gramps Gunge ?

Wish they were both still here to to show how good humour and wit makes for a pleasant time on GN.

At risk of offending Maw and totally inappropriate for a lady of advanced years
There was a young man from Devizes
Whose balls were of different sizes
One was so small
It was no ball at all
While the other won several prizes.
