I would love to know if membership of GN swelled significantly after Jingl was booted off? If it didn't I would tend to think that as a salutary lesson it failed dramatically. On the contrary, Ceesnan, several people came on to say that they were seriously considering leaving because they thought that jingle's ban was arbitrarily imposed.

Apparently a number of people were saying their friends wanted to join Gransnet, but they were afraid of jingl. So HQ had no option but to protect the site.

How extraordinary - a member is banned because non-members are afraid! Reminds me of Jings thread which was titled something like 'Would the silent majority speak the f*ck' up'.

It was alluding to how, as a results of a missive from GNHQ, we had to take their silent thoughts into account and how we mustn't upset them!

I don't know anyone WNO wants to join GN as I never tell anyone I am on it or anything about it.

^Whenever this subject comes up I am truly truly astonished at how the jingles fan club think her banning was one of the greatest miscarriages of justice of all times.

It's not that at all rigby, but about the fact that a question mark hangs over the reason for a permanent ban for a member who could be very acerbic at times but also very kind. Many posters are acerbic and just downright rude and personal but are allowed to continue to post.
So it is a question of what exactly are the criteria applied for a permanent ban to be imposed and whether anyone else could fall foul of that without realising.
I believe that another member was banned but the reasons for that were a lot more obvious.

Did people really chat to their friends to encourage them to come on to GN and people said 'I would have joined but for that Jinglbellsfrocks person'?

I never mention GN by name, will occasionaly comment on something "on a forum I belong to"

I mention Gransnet and stuff that's being discussed on it all the time. My family know who I am on Gransnet and on Twitter. They pretty much always have. Minibags decorated an apron for me during her holiday with cousins in upstate New York last summer and my Twitter ID is beautifully calligraphed onto it in fabric paint/ink.

When a friend was getting divorced some years ago, and pretty stressed with the whole deal even though it wasn't acrimonious, she posted this, which I think is spot on, on her FB: "Be yourself. People who mind don't matter and people who matter won't mind". I like to think jings lives by that rule too. Good for her.

#not really a rule, just a guiding principle; I expect some people will misinterpret it and say it means one can be nasty. No. Like all motivational sayings, it's just a useful way of looking at some of the pissiness of life.

BTW, I don't think my family members look me up on here or on Twitter. They've no need to because anything I'd say here I'd say to them too and often do. I think the thing is with Jings that she didn't pretend to be anything she wasn't. An admirable quality, I think.
