Cooling fans for bedrooms

If it's for keeping you cool at night rather than cooling the entire room then I bought a little (5-6inches) square fan from Amazon for about £14. It works via usb so I had it in one of those usb/mains plugs. Sat on my bedside table and kept me lovely and cool all night without bothering the husband.
Not silent but very quiet and no lights on it whatsoever.

It's called the Welltop 6inch portable fan!

My Dyson fan is floor standing and has only one very tiny blue light on the base, I sleep all night with the fan on and I don't notice the light.

That's reassuring, Harrigran. I certainly wouldn't be bothered by that It is very expensive. though. Worth the money?
Don't think a 6inch fan would do for me, Thingmajig. Any other comments/suggestions? Need to buy this thing soon before the heat sets in.

I have one of those floor standing Dyson fans too and couldn't be without it. I got it on an interest free credit offer and feel that (for me) it was well worth the money as I get so hot during the night it's really uncomfortable. I have it quite close to the bed and it's very quiet. as harri said there is only knew blue light and I can control it via the little remote that comes with it. You can have it in a fixed position or make it move from side to side. No blades so very quiet and safe for the children.

I too have a new Dyson floor standing fan, on GNetters' recommendation. The light and sensor for the remote are at floor level so you wouldn't see it. However this makes it difficult to use the remote if at the foot of the bed, so it would have to be at the side if you wanted to alter the settings during the night. I have only used it a few times, and love how quiet it is compared to a conventional fan which used to keep me awake. Worth every penny! I bought it from Dyson at the price advertised by most sellers, but afterwards a pop up ad appeared from Groupon with £50 off so I kicked myself.
I hope you find something suitable.

Two votes so far for the Dyson, so maybe (gulps!) - I should get one. Any other suggestions?

Lights can be taped over. Beware of Dyson's over-priced appliance porn.

I too love our Dyson floor standing fan, we only got it last year and it sits tidily at my side of the bed.

I've never been bothered by the light but a good idea from the previous poster to tape over it if it affects you.

The gentle noise never affected me whatsoever, nor my light sleeping husband. My only comment about using the fan all night is that I sometimes wake up feeling quite dehydrated.

We had a ceiling fan at our last house, as our bedroom got really hot in the summer. It was really good, much better than floor standing fans.

I have a ceiling fan, and find it really good. It fits on the light fitting which is right above my bed. Possibly a bit noisier than the Dyson but it doesn't bother me. If you have enough space on the outside wall you could get a small air conditioning unit.

I have a dyson fan and I complained to dyson about the light they have told me that they now make one with a dimable light for night time use
Rather than buy a new fan I decided to buy some coloured acitate film,cut it into small squares and stick ( with sellotape ) across the light until it was dark enough not to disturb me sleeping but still able to use the remote,I know you can buy a cheaper fan, but this fan is so quiet and cool I think it's well worth the cost

I work in Sainsburys and they have loads of the ones on stands, they have no led lights just a simple fan with a few settings,I'm sure they will be available in all stores around the country.

I cover Anything with an LED light in the bedroom with black tape e.g. Phone charger.

I have a little 6in portable fan which I have on the floor, directed towards me, not disturbing DH, its quiet and has no lights, I have had it for years,and using it only during the summer months will no doubt last for ages, I cant do without it once the weather turns warm, I love it.

We have a floor standing Dyson, I've never noticed the led at night. I can't stand noise in the bedroom and OH can't stand to be warm, so this works a treat.

I have four bedrooms and ceiling fans in all, having tried floor standing .Mine don't have lights it was optional.
They are much better above as they circulate the air where the heat rises so dispersing it.

We purchased portable ac units for the bedrooms. Brilliant.

Where did you get them from please sarahellenwhitney? Do you recommend a particular brand. Can you fit them yourself (OH quite handy)or do you need an electrician?
