I've just installed Brave web browser - so far absolutely brilliant. It gives you so much control and it's very fast.

Just clicked on ad block and it worked straight away, thank you

I went to install Adblock but I notice someone said it stopped them watching you tube at all. I'm not so sure - I think I'll stick to IE. Strange though - today there are only small ads on this site.

No problems on my Samsung tablet either, but laptop has them. I just filter them out in my head as I do on the TV - except (and this is where I show my shallowness) for the new adverts for Sky which have Tom Hardy in them. Yum ?!! Could we have some of those on GN please admin?

All fine on my iPad ( smug mode)

No problems with phone or iPad, the iMac is inundated though. Huge ads each side on a tiny space for GN. Does anyone know if Adblock works on an iMac or is it just for Windows machines? I'm no techie person and would appreciate the advice.

No - I seem to be lucky!

Yes of course Luckygirl, which is why I apologised to HQ. Obviously you aren't getting the intrusive ads that others are.

Thanks MOnica and yggdrasil, just installed Adblock

Luckygirl Sun 02-Apr-17 19:38:18

I do get ads on here - just down the right hand side. They are not obtrusive at all and I guess they are what makes the site viable financially.

Yes, Adblock Plus is the way to go. I've had it installed for a couple of years and am very rarely troubled by ads, either on here or other sites I visit.

(Sorry GNHQ, but really, there are just too many...)

Thanks for tip about Adblock I'll give it a go. I use my PC for Gransnet.

Not are, ads!

hildajenniJ Fri 31-Mar-17 15:58:24

Are you on the desktop site? Are you on a computer or laptop. I use my tablet for Gransnet and use the mobile site. The only are I can see are the little ones at the top and bottom of the page. Try switching sites, and see if it's any better. It took me a while to get used to it, but I like it now.

Absolutely agree, AdBlock is the answer to your problem. Just go online, google AdBlock and then click and follow the directions

yggdrasil Fri 31-Mar-17 15:48:22

What advertisements? Have you got Adblock installed? If not, get it, it is free

henetha Fri 31-Mar-17 14:32:59

I'm having similar when on GN. I've tried to get rid of these huge adverts but it's impossible.

Spot Fri 31-Mar-17 14:02:00

Gransnet has now shrunk to a tiny bit in the middle of huge adverts I don't want! I don't think I can continue coming to this site if this is how it's going to be.
Does anyone else find these ads totally intrusive and invasive?
I haven't tried using Internet Explorer to see if they go away.
