FaceTime /Skype

Don't worry about wrinkles, double chins etc. It is what is inside that counts.

Thought it was just me I nearly dropped my ipad on the floor in shock the first time I opened facetime on it !! The person looking back at me frightened me to death.

I'm not technologically advanced enough to use Skype/Facebook and I find the magnifying mirror quite scary enough. Those open pores and crow's feet don't look too good close up do they? But put it this way - we are alive and reasonably well. Those lines on our faces tell of experience and maybe - wisdom!

When I remember I put on thick-rimmed glasses which seem to make my face look younger and more pleasant.
I don't normally wear glasses.

Happy birthday ladies!! I see my wrinkles coming but just accept them. I am lucky enough to still be here with my family when lots of other people didn't get that chance. We have all earned them so be proud. Have a great week ladies x

my grandaughter told me the other night that she hates her other granny because she's so wrinkly and she insists that grandaughter kiss her when she goes.
i hate my double chin and fattish face (i'm overweight) but at least i don't have wrinkles! so i have got the grandaughter's seal of approval at least ...... i think i'd rather have my large face with its smooth skin than other grannies wrinkles!
perhaps i should add that other granny isn't much older than me but appears to be ageing more quickly - perhaps i should only lose a little more weight rather than a lot so i don't get those wrinkles.

Well Mawbroon , that could be a description of me! Too depressing to think about. Though I have to say when I see photos or videos of me animated and smiling I do look a lot better that any 'selfie' I take, and presumably that's what they see. My daughter says Ive got a lovely face. I think she's lying but it's very kind! I hate the way I look these days.

To tie up two threads.....My children and grandchildren live thousands of miles away. One group comes to visit me every year or so, so I have not really seen much of these grandchildren, although skype has been very useful.
Last summer, the eldest granddaughter ( 5) just seemed to stare at me a lot. Eventually she said shyly. ' Grandma, please may I touch your jelly chin' Not having been a great one for mirrors, I took a good look through her eyes and saw that the great dewlap almost touched my chest. She touched and wobbled it and we both had a great laugh

God is merciful. As our looks fade so does our eyesight, so provided we don't wear our glasses we can convince ourselves we don't look too bad. ?

Your face tells your story , I've got lines and wrinkles and they are from laughing and pulling silly faces to entertain my family friends and now my grandson. Rather have a friendly face than a smooth shiny permanent surprised expressionless one. Embrace it and insist on filters for selfies

Ladies, you are a great bunch of comediennes and have something very special, the ability to make people smile. Remember, you are grans and have achieved the highest honour, the granny look. If you do wish to hide your neck then wear a scarf, or maybe a veil. Take my tip, don't. You could show photos of yourselves when you were in your teens or twenties. I'm rather new here and I wonder if you know what each other look like. Among those wrinkles you don't like, are there any laughter lines?

Oh we can always rely on GNetters to cheer us up, thanks Hope and Ginny, made me laugh. And when I look at recent lovely family photos on holiday just WHO is that pear shaped droopy woman? When did she join the family??

I had a long journey home last week and as I went through passport control I actually looked like my passport photo!

oh mcem. You made me think of my bus pass now. The photo is terrible. I am surprised the driver doesn't say " we don't take frankinstein's Bride on board" [cry]

I have never skyped, and hate having even a photograph taken, Why is it that when I look in the mirror I don't look TOO bad, nowhere near nice you understand, but not too scary. The other day I got the shock of my life. We had a new camera and I was trying to get it sorted with the laptop, send pics accross . I saw a button marked camera so clicked it. Horror of Horrors there was ME filling up the screen. I look like a miserable old bat, I actually was feeling pretty good until I saw that now I feel I should stay indoors the rest of my life.

I found I look better on the laptop than the ipad - light seems a bit more flattering - so I always use the laptop to call! I've also invested in a gadget from a well known slimming club which claims to give you a "natural facelift" if you use it for several weeks. So far it's given me jaw ache but it's only been a week so I shall persevere.

Im another one that doesn't look. It doesn't matter with family though does it. Other than that its black and white or sepia all the way these days

Ps thanks for b'day wishes. Had a lovely weekend with my 'special' GDS whose b'day was just 2 days after mine.

My biggest shock came when I had to renew my passport. I know that no-one likes how they look on these photographs but they were so awful that I waited a day or two, took more care with the makeup ., tried again and still hate them. I convinced myself (almost) that it's the harsh lights and lack of smile that spoil what would otherwise be a reasonable pic!!

Me too! Well maybe one.

Ours usually Skype at unexpected times, when we're looking at our worst. No chance to brush hair, put on lipstick, take off pinny etc.
But it's good to see their surroundings. Ours usually use some camera or other to survey what's going on around them. So interesting because they all live in completely different environments from us, (we're in rural France.)
Our son in Kuwait is usually out shopping. Or driving with GS moaning in back seat.
The son in India has views of ladies in saris fussing around preparing a meal in their tiny kitchen, or chasing the children.
The 2 girls in England show the more familiar backgrounds, which we've visited more often, and make us homesick.
We haven't yet mastered the same camera skills.
