Catheter gel

Hi Boolya,
Don't know if this will help as I obviously don't know your DH's situation.
I have an atonic bladder and I have to self-catheterise several times every day.
I don't have a long-term catheter in situ, whereas your DH might? It sounds like the gel he has to use is possibly in a tube separate from the catheter?
If he would be able to self-catheterise I can give you the details of the catheters I use which you should be able to obtain through your GP. Each catheter comes in an individual plastic container about the size of a ballpoint pen. I simply have to unscrew the top and draw out the catheter tube which is already coated in the gel (no spillage!) I insert the catheter, draw off the urine, withdraw the catheter and throw it away.
Obviously if your DH has a long-term catheter that stays in situ for several weeks this wouldn't apply but whatever your situation you have my sympathy as it really is a drag to constantly have to do what your bladder should do naturally.

Many thanks fourormore. He does self catheterise with the tubes being individually wrapped in a tube containing gel. He catheterises straight into the loo so the gel gets on the edge, runs down the front and seeps out of the packaging wherever he has lain it down for disposal at the end. I am not especially houseproud, but this does get me down. However, it is a small price to pay in the larger scheme of things.

Bless him! Male anatomy is different to ours! I catheterise straight into the loo but sit for the occasion Sorry I can't help with the removal of the residue but I really wish you both the very best
