Queen Camilla

Prince Charles is campaigning for Camilla to be Queen Camilla when he becomes King. I would not like her to be Queen. I think they both behaved appallingly in carrying on their affair when they were both married to someone else. They had no concern for the hurt, upset and heartbreak they caused Diana and Andrew PB. They just thought it was perfectly OK to act as they did. It's 80 years since Edward abdicated to marry a divorced woman, and Margaret was not able to marry Peter Townsend, even though she was unlikely to ascend the throne. So what rules have changed? He has what he wanted and married her, but making her Queen is condoning their adultery.
But I think I'm in the minority in my view.

Yorkshiregel I think you're right that Charles and Diana looked happy in some of the photos (I posted one earlier in the thread).

I think if Diana had accepted that he was going to continue to have mistresses the marriage could have continued happily enough and he would have accepted her indiscretions after the 'heir and the spare' had arrived. However, she didn't accept that, had a fairytale idea of what it would be like married to her prince.

I'm not saying that she was wrong at all, just that her expectations were those of a normal wife and she did not marry into a normal family and she was not mature enough to accept the status quo.

Called queen but the correct title is queen consort Yet poor old Albert and Phil had to settle for prince consort . I wonder how they will reinvent themselves after queenie dies

Ana Fri 03-Mar-17 18:38:11

Well that's fine then - I thought the point was that Charles wanted Camilla to be Queen Camilla, not consort.

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 18:23:25

I missed those Anna, I cannot think of one, think it was .george 4 who wanted to take the title from his wife Caroline when he tried to divorce her . Since Victoria all the wives have taken the title queen consort

Ana Fri 03-Mar-17 18:09:04

Why is it her right Annie?

Plenty of examples have been given previously on this thread of wives/husbands who didn't automatically become 'queen' or 'king' when their spouse inherited the throne.

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 17:48:58

It shouldn't be his mission though, it is her right Ana .

MissAdventure Fri 03-Mar-17 17:47:36

I think there should be a debate thread on here - look how diplomatic we've all been. smile

Beammeupscottie Fri 03-Mar-17 17:45:52

No one should worry about Diana being a sort of loser here. It is her son that will eventually become King. Be content with that as I feel sure she would be.

merlotgran Fri 03-Mar-17 17:42:34

I think a referendum is the only way to settle it. grin

Ana Fri 03-Mar-17 17:29:00

But quite frankly I'd be very surprised if Camilla was that bothered what title she has when Charles becomes King. It seems to be him making it his mission to have her named as Queen.

MissAdventure Fri 03-Mar-17 17:23:35

Yes, I suppose, thinking about it, some people do get caught up in it far more than is healthy.
smile

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 17:07:13

I think so, I have heard people say she shouldn't be queen because she is taking more from Diana

MissAdventure Fri 03-Mar-17 17:02:08

I don't think its revenge.. surely nobody is that obsessed with Diana to want revenge?

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 17:00:31

Andrew Parker Bowles was a philander throughout his marriage, he dated Anne too.

Talking to someone at a polo match is no proof of a friendship.

Diana threw herself down stairs when pregnant with her first child. That's taking a need for attention rather far.

If we step back from the evil Charles and Camilla and Saint Diana , if there was an affair in the early years of the marriage it was wrong but a woman in an unhappy marriage and s man married to very mentally disturbed woman I suppose they found peace with each other

For me, what ever happened in that marriage Charles must have suffered greatly when Diana died, enough is enough and revenge is something I will not agree with.

Andrew Mortons book states that in the beginning, Charles and Diana were happy. He was quite enchanted by her - then he got to know her!
He found her moods childish, and difficult to deal with, and he was jealous that the public clamoured to see his wife on royal walkabouts.
As I have said, I'm no particular fan of the royals, or Diana, but she was my age, and William the same age as my daughter, so I have an interest.

Pictures on the internet mean nothing. Camilla and Diana were never friends. Diana knew about Camilla before she married Charles - I really don't know where you're getting you're getting your information from Yorkshiregel but it's not reliable!

merlotgran Fri 03-Mar-17 15:27:17

Andrew Parker Bowles was known as the man who laid down his wife for his country. grin

He didn't hang about before he re-married.

Ana Fri 03-Mar-17 15:21:09

that is why she was allowed a divorce from her husband ? confused

merlotgran Fri 03-Mar-17 15:16:58

Camilla was not Charles' only love. Dale, Lady Tryon, nicknamed Kanga, was his mistress for a long time even though she was married. He was also seeing Camilla and the two women, not surprisingly, disliked each other.

Poor Dale had less happy ending than Camilla.

Yorkshiregel Fri 03-Mar-17 14:40:57

So what you see is quiet acceptance when once there was hate. The Queen putting her country and the Monarchy first above everything else. Self promoting Camilla is just playing a waiting game. She is a manipulator if ever there was one. She has always had her eye on becoming Queen. The public were promised that this was something she would never be and that is why she was allowed a divorce from her own husband and to marry Charles. They may be happy together, but then they deserve each other for all the hurt and upset they have caused. I hope Queen Elizabeth lives to be 100!

Yes, Diana and Camilla were friends. There are pictures of them together at the races, going shopping together, and chatting together at a polo match. Lots of things on the internet if you look for them.

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 14:40:20

Who knows, Chsrles could have had a nervous breakdown

Yorkshiregel Fri 03-Mar-17 14:28:11

Misadventure they looked well matched to me: Some happy photos for you to look at.

Who knows what may have happened if Camilla had kept her distance?

This makes interesting reading too:

All about cause and affect.

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 12:47:51

Everything Diana said was the truth, no matter no witnesses to many of her allegations , the married men she had affairs with were at fault, their wives of no importance, but they should have accepted three in their marriages because the third one was Diana who was only looking for love so not her fault.

Beammeupscottie Fri 03-Mar-17 12:27:53

I always thought it took two to tango! Why blame just one person?

Anniebach Fri 03-Mar-17 11:57:22

Yes it is unkind, so is seeking revenge and this is the cause of not wanting a second wife to hold her husbands titles .
