I woke thinking today would be a good day.

I am normally quite a negative sort of person. A pessimist. A glass that never had anything in it, in the first place. Someone who believes that if it can go wrong then it undoubtedly, will. A miserable cow

Strangely (for me)I woke this morning with a feeling that I haven't experienced for so long I can't remember the last time. I felt that today was going to be a good day. Don't know how. Or why.

It is 1.15 as I type this and wonder when my cut off time should be? shall I stay awake until midnight just in case I miss the "good thing" ? How will I know if and when it has happened?

At the risk of crossing over threads Stansgran I don't think there will be any children going to the offered school from either near her home or her existing primary as it is a wildcard school plucked out of thin air in order to fulfill the LEA's obligation to offer a place and nothing else. I worry terribly about the travelling time/distance and changing buses. She is a very small for her age little girl too and the thought of her standing alone at a strange bus stop in another town for 20-30 minutes there and back, every day, day in day out terrifies me.

Just a thought Gillybob re schooling. We had a whole summer where DGD was told that she was not going to the same school as her friends and was going on along bus ride. All her friends were going to school walking distance and the only other child going was one who had bullied her from her first term. The new school were forewarned and put them in separate classes but DGD has somehow fallen in with a lovely crowd and has made good friends . She is as happy as happy can be. We had a very fraught summer.

Thank you all again and thank you for the birthday wishes for my gorgeous girl. Such a shame that at 11 she should have everything int he world to look forward to, but is feeling truly miserable. DDiL said she really didn't want to go to school today as "everyone will be talking about their new schools....and she doesn't have one".

Try as I might I don't think I can begin to understand the "English system" either baubles and I think they change it to suit themselves. One thing for certain though the English LEA's do not give a stuff about children, to them they are just a number and by offering a school (however unsuitable) they are fulfilling their duty.

gilly I've just read the other thread about the problems you're having. Poor girl and no wonder you're having sleepless nights. I know nothing about the English system so can't offer any advice but I'm sorry you're going through such a tough time.

gillybob that was not a melodrama and no need to apologise. We all want the absolute best for our beloved DGs and anything that hurts them hurts us. I really hope things improve for you all.

harrigran Thu 02-Mar-17 08:21:21

Thinking of you today gilly, you and your GD have been on my mind for most of the night. Happy Birthday to your DGD cupcake

gillybob Thu 02-Mar-17 08:11:31

Sorry about the melodrama folks. I must've dropped off around 5 and dashing around like someone not right now to make it to work. Feeling rubbish.

Jane10 Thu 02-Mar-17 06:35:44

I echo that. I hope this is a much better day for you (and all of us!)

BBbevan Thu 02-Mar-17 06:16:54

First thing I thought of this morning was gillybob and her GD. Have a better day both ?

Nana3 Thu 02-Mar-17 05:36:34

I'm another one who's been awake since silly o'clock. I don't go out to work like you gilly but l have things to do that are grinding me down.
I really hope your DGD has a happy birthday, it was heartbreaking to read that she won't have.

I probably have missed somthing here and don't really know why your beloved granddaughters birthday may not be a happy one. I do know the feeling of being bogged down with the problems life throws at us. When you feel as if your getting no where fast. It's that time of year gillybob we all need a bit of extra sunlight to lift our spirits. Like you I'm going to be exhausted by 12 o'clock because I've not slept well. Being tired doesn't help either. I hope you feel brighter and let's hope for some sunshine very soon to help you on your way.

Sorry for raking up this old thread. But it's 03.50 am . I have yet to close my eyes and it's my gorgeous granddaughters 11th birthday today. It should be a happy day for her but it won't be. I have to be at work in 4 hours.

Why is life so damned hard? Why can't something good happen just for bloody well once? sad

I remember my dear departed Dad being unusually snappy with my Mum when she made some comment about one of his elderly patients who lived in very poor conditions. She'd said that money wouldn't make any difference to her and Dad replied "Of course it would!" Life is just easier with more money. Too much money probably brings its own and different problems but enough can make all the difference between a miserable existence and a nice enough life.

gillybob Sun 26-Feb-17 15:42:38

Exactly Elegran . I wouldn't mind doing a long term happiness rental..... smile

On a serious note though, I don't think money in itself can make you truly happy, you need to have the other things to go with it, like family, friends and most importantly health.

Just come back from my usual Sunday walk on the beach. It's blowing a hooligan which means there were some good "treasures' lying around. smile

Elegran Sun 26-Feb-17 14:48:30

Money can't buy happines, but it can rent you a bit of it for a while.

DanniRae Sun 26-Feb-17 14:27:59

I am sending you some flowers to cheer you up gillybob

My cough and cold disappeared for all of about 1 week and has come back again ExaltedWombat I'm fed up with it ! No wonder I'm a miserable cow, if I laugh it starts the coughing off.

Hand on heart a lottery win would be lovely and would solve a lot of problems with work, financial worries, pay my mortgage off etc. it would help my children and grandchildren and my extended family, it would enable DH to visit India and me to get to go to Nashville....

and they say money can't buy happiness

But how shallow is that? Really?

Diddy1 Fri 24-Feb-17 23:09:39

I hope it continues gillybob

Ramblinrose22.Not wishing to rain on your parade but isn't this life..You lost a pound coin so what. How important was losing a pound to having a parking fine.Mobiles are temperamental like laptops. Switch them off for a minimum of an hour make a coffee, or even two, dunk in a biscuit and ask yourself what could have been worse.

sarahellenwhitney Fri 24-Feb-17 16:31:16

Gillybob can we take it your feel good day didn't give you a win of millions on the lottery.????????

Ramblingrose22 Fri 24-Feb-17 16:18:43

Enjoy the good feeling while it lasts, gilly!

I too felt cheerful when I woke up and saw the bright sunshine.

Since then I've had a row with DH, lost £1 in a shopping trolley that wouldn't release my coin when "docked" into another trolley, got charged for parking because the delay caused by trying to get help with the trapped coin took me over the free parking time limit and now my mobile phone has stopped working and I have to send it away for repair.

I was about to start backing up my laptop but can't afford to have that go wrong so am leaving well alone.

Hope everyone else is having a better day than me.

These things may sound trifling in the general scheme of things, but are very frustrating when they all happen within a short space of time.

grannypiper Fri 24-Feb-17 16:09:37

Glad to hear it wasnt a bad day gilly, so that means it was good !

ExaltedWombat Fri 24-Feb-17 13:27:48

Perhaps your 'Christmas cold' finally lifted. I'm still waiting...

Blinko Fri 24-Feb-17 12:23:00

A bit off topic, I know, but speaking of vets and George Clooney, we once had occasion to go to another vet as ours was temporarily out of commission. The new vet really did look like Paul Newman. Wow! So these things can happen...you never know.
