As I sign out I have to say that you've proved my point about being confrontational. How can you read into my posts that I'm anything other than a passionate advocate of equality and that
I've raised a son who, more than anyone I know, has enormous respect for women?
However I believe that, in some specific cases, he might make an exception.

Until young girls and women stop seeing 'celebs' such as Kim Kardashian as role models there's not much chance of boys seeing girls as equals.

Let's hope their mothers encourage them to see people like Helen Glover, Heather Stanning, Jessica Ennis-Hill, top women doctors, lawyers, scientists etc as role models instead of celebrities who are famous for being um, well, famous

Yes actually, I have raised my son in a way that he doesn't disrespect women.

I do actually believe that women have a huge say in what their sons are going to be like. I do also believe that a lot of women "enable" their sons.

Ana - I do have a very huge idea of what goes on social media.

During my life there have been many people, living and dead, famous and not famous who I have admired for some cause or another, but I do not think I would describe any them as role models.

I am curious about this concern with women feeling the need to be subservient to men. Yes, I know it happens, but it was something I was unaware of until, probably, my mid 20s. Old fashioned male prejudice about women's abilities was pretty widely shown, but that can be dealt with, but women choosing subservience at the level stillaliveand kicking describes has rarely come my way.

All women have a duty to bring their sons up to respect women. If my son ever ever spoke to a girl in a derogatory manner let alone watched porn I'd be on his case like a tonne of bricks.

Excuse me Ana? Until parents of young boys start knowing what they are doing as in watching on line porn and imparting respect for women. Unit older women start telling their other half to clean a toilet that they also use, it will not get better.

Ive seen it. They used to force feed them in prison to make a point. Unfortunately the young girls these days are offering themselves up to be treated so in a different way which is just as sad. Im not sure how this can be dealt with. Did you know there's a "dating" app for 12 to 17 year olds called "yellow" where the boys continually ask the girls for naked pictures.

Im not sure much has changed to be honest. There are just different avenues for abuse.

Stillaliveandkicking,The latest film about them is brilliant, went to cinema to watch it which was mostly filled with women & a few brave men,it was a very quiet & somber audience that left, a great reminder of just how bad things used to be. Shame some young woman still get or wanted to be treated like sex objects or actually behave worse than (some) men
