Some music makes me cry

The Lark Ascending (Vaughan Williams), Empty Chairs and Empty Tables (Les Mis), Vincent (Don McLean), In Paradisum (Faure),
Beautiful Boy (John Lennon), Cat's in the Cradle (Harry Chapin), MacArthur Park (Richard Harris), From a Distance (Bette Midler), Blackbird (Paul McCartney), Easy Terms (Blood Brothers) ....... and many others.

Adele's 'Someone Like You' does it, every time.

Lots of those mentioned do it for me too - with the addition of Dilly Keane (Fascinating Aida) 'Look Mummy, no Hands'.

So many of these set me off, particularly Bring Him Home but the worst offender is Elgar's Nimrod. Just the thought of it brings tears to my eyes, especially as DH wants it at his funeral....

Slipping through my fingers by Abba. All about a small girl growing up and all the missed things you should have done together. I have 2 daughters so this song always gets me going.

For some reason it's mostly the music that brings me to tears, not the words.
As I wrote on another thread, last movement to Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto (Full Moon and Empty Nights), and many of Bach's pieces.
For songs, Strange Fruit gives me the shivers, and Gershwin's My Man's Gone Now, from Porgy and Bess.

Love time to say goodbye, always brings a tear. My d bought me Eva Cassidy cd for Christmas, that has me in tears every time especially songbird.

Like Foxyferret I'm tearful when hearing "Slipping through my fingers", by Abba (which I know I've mentioned on a similar thread previously). This reminds me so much of my 12 year old DGD who lives 5000 miles away. Also "I know you by Heart" by Eva Cassidy.

I have a playlist on my ipod which I have named "TEARJERKERS"....I don't necessarily cry to all of the songs. They are all about memories and times in my life, good and bad. Its my "comfort listening" and takes me away from the stresses of 21st century life. I couldn't be happier. Found an old simply red CD album in a charity shop the other day...Mick Hucknall singing a stripped back version of A Song For You...its so moving...a definite tearjerker. Frank Sinatra's Over and Over and Perry Como's Its Impossible are also highly ranked in my playlist.

Most operatic arias bring tears to my eyes. All things bright and beautiful .... the first song at a friends funeral had me literally sobbing ???

There used to be a series on Radio3 called the Tingle Factor, which I listened to and enjoyed.

I agree re Adele's 'Someone Like You' There is a song which was written by Phil Coulter for his son, who was born with Downs Syndrome (I believe). It is called 'Scorn not his Simplicity'. Several artists have recorded it but for me the best version is by The Dubliners with Luke Kelly on lead vocals. Very moving.

Time to say goodbye was played at my Mum's funeral...as she loved Katherine Jenkins singing it....I just Absolutely cannot ever listen to it without falling to pieces....
Also heard my dear dad humming 'a house is not a home when the one you love is not there...Breaks my heart....

Children singing away in a manger. When each of my children left primary school they always had 'one more step along the way we go' at the final assembly to which parents were invited. No a dry eye in the house!

Mama by Il Divo, this was played at my mum's funeral, she was a big fan of Il Divo. Time to say goodbye, Bring him home, Shine on you crazy diamond by Pink Floyd. Music has always played a big part in my life.

He stopped loving her today - George Jones. This ain't nothin' - Craig Morgan and Distant Shores - Dierks Bentley. If you are not familiar with these country songs have a listen they are all available to listen for free online. They will break your heart.

The amazing singing of Kathleen Ferrier sends goosebumps down my spine. On a more modern note, Jeff Buckley singing Hallelujah gets me every time

"Sisters, now our meeting is over" by Libana. We played it at our mum's funeral and it makes me cry just remembering it. It's hauntingly beautiful.

Matt Monroe singing Portrait of my love has me in tears.Nimrod was played at both my parents' funerals and it always brings a lump to my throats and a tear to my eye.
