grannypiper I can see your point, but as Ana said, if photos are only available to family and friends it should be OK. Also, as technology moves on so fast now, today's social media sites may not exist when our DGC are adults. I used to be a member of Friends Reunited and that one no longer exists. Happily, I downloaded photos that I wanted to keep before it expired.
I think this is an issue of our time. As a child I had photos taken of me but they were not shared with anyone as far as I know and the internet didn't exist then. I am really talking about the possibility of the children themselves objecting when they get older. I can just imagine the disgusted, "Granny, why on earth did you put that photo on!"
I remember a case in Austria a few years ago where a 16 year old girl took her parents to court for invasion of privacy.. I cant imagine many of todays children will happy for future employers to see photos of them sat on a potty.I cant understand why no-one respects their grandchilds privacy. It is a sad world.
I think as long as the photos you put on FB are only able to be seen by those chosen by you, i.e. family and friends, it's considered acceptable. My DD and all her friends do it.
I have heard of families falling out over grandparents putting up photos without checking with the parents first though.
In my opinion, children can't consent. Whether they need to be able to, I'm not sure. I don't remember consenting to have photos taken when I was a child. For myself, personally, I don't care about other folks children or grandkids, and what they're up to. I probably should take cover now!
I read somewhere recently that putting photos of grandchildren / babies on social media could be a violation of their privacy and that they may well object when they are older. Obviously they aren't in any position to give their consent. Is this just PC gone too far? Personally, I love putting photos of my DGC on Facebook. Any opinions?
