Do you remember

It was "Twink" (I think that was the name) my mother used. The smell was horrendous.

My mum used to do everyone's, as well as her own.
She wasn't even a hairdresser!

Reading through these posts, I've just remembered "Snow Fire" I used to rub it on my chilblains. I've just Googled it and you can still buy it.

My mother as well as Evening in Paris also used Californian Poppy and Phul Nana.
I used Toni perms when they first came out.

I used to like all the Coty perfumes : L'Aimant and many others

My mum used to put bay rhum on my hair, and give it a half head perm
I looked like Leo Sayer!

Or which identical twin had the Toni?

When home perms first came out I remember two middle aged sisters, cousins of DGM having a screaming row about which home perm was better, Toni or Amami!

Just to give it more 'body'

In the 1950s I remember a new shampoo called White Rain - in a sachet instead of a bottle.
Delving further back - banana or strawberry flavoured Punch and Judy toothpaste, a yellow or pink dry disc in a round tin.

When DM died in the 1980s I kept her smelling salts in my handbag for ages.

I had 4711 given to me at Christmas, all done up in festive wrapping suitable to hang on the tree, it was from a friend who had just been to Cologne. It brought back memories of my DM who loved to have some on her dressing table.
Alongside it would be her bottle of Tweed which made me feel like sneezing!

I have had some 4711 Eau de Cologne in my dressing table drawer for ages. I can't even remember when I bought it and probably haven't used it since then, but I somehow can't bring myself to chuck it out.

How about smelling salts?

4711 used to come in a perfume stick too. It was cooling on your forehead.

That should be Soir Dr Paris. Blessed predictive text!

Oh yes I remember those old perfume names. In fact you can still get evening in Paris, but it's now known as 'Doir de Paris'. Anyone remember 4711 fragrance?

Bath salts are back in, quite fashionable now!

Wintergreen - yes I remember it now, I couldn't remember the name

Also that smelly wintergreen. Sanatagen "every picture tells a story"

My mother used to scrub us down, including our hair, with Sunlight soap after we got dirty playing in the garden. Sometimes our hair was washed in green soft soap. No liquid shampoos in those days. I do remember the tins of dentifrice and bath cubes and bath salts.

My grandad used to use wintergreen ointment on his aches and pains. I can smell it now!

I still get Imperial Leather with the little label on the cake of soap.

I am still using Knight's castile soap, I found it in the supermarket a while ago and bought a case of it, it is the only soap that doesn't irritate my skin.

I'm sure someone must have mentioned Horlicks Tablets?

Back in the 1960s I used to use Breck shampoo. It was brilliant. Don't think you can still get it. My brother, already an adult when I was a child, started to lose his hair quite early and used something called Birch Sap Tonic which he swore was making his missing hair grow back (it wasn't). My mother said it would be cheaper for him to rub butter on his head. I never knew whether she was actually joking.
