Yes, Anya! If just to find out how his incredible expanding and shrinking 'thing' works...

My window cleaner does have a very long thing. He uses it for the upstairs windows. But it won't reach up and over the conservatory roof. He did extend his thing to its upmost but it was way too short.

Perhaps I ought to invite him up to the bedroom?

Rather than buy a new piece of kit why not find a window cleaner who has those very loooong thingies that will reach.

I was astounded to see a chap on the pavement cleaning windows that were about four floors up - the thing has a pump operated from a van.

I have used a mop before now nanasam but it left streaks, which of course are preferable to magpie poo, but not ideal.

What about dipping a broom head in soapy water? It has a nice long handle that should reach.

Not wanting to start a new thread but I need some helpful suggestions too.

Bedroom window at the back overlooks the conservatory. Window cleaner won't touch it for fear of falling through conservatory roof or plain coward! I can reach half of it if I sit on the sill, clothe and cleaner in hand, and reach out as far as possible ???

Consequently I have a half a clean window and a half a grubby one, the grubby half now sporting a generous dollop of magpie poo. Anyone any suggestions of long-handled thingies I might buy to reach the rest of the window?

I soak burnt on pans (not that I ever get any!) in vanish powder.

That's the one I'm taking about Shysal.

The best product for cleaning any burned surface is Astonish. It's a paste which comes in a tub. You can get it in Wilkinsons or order it from Amazon. I think I've also seen it in Sainsburys.

It's non abrasive and best used with a 'greenie' scouring pad.

Years ago I had a blackened saucepan (I had quite a few when I was first married!)
One day I used it to cook rhubarb.
It took he all the black off the inside of the pan!

There are some good tips on line using vinegar and baking soda to clean burnt pans. Also using Coke a Cola. (Just think what that stuff does to your stomach !)

Try some Oven Pride. This has the large polythene bag as described by Anya, although hers may be one for BBQs. It works beautifully on enamel baking tins, but I haven't tried on other pans.

perhaps soaking with a strong solution of washing soda might help? I find that very helpful for burned on grease and stuff on dishes and pans.
As for chucking it - it depends on how much you paid in the first place. It probably is worth trying to fix it first, anya

Yes, try wetting it then sprinkling on soap powder and leaving it for a couple of hours. That might work.

There is something I use to clean the oven grills. Forget the name but it consists of a large polythene bags and something chemical (best used outside) and then you leave it in the bag overnight. Works great with grills but not sure about other things.

Or chuck it and buy a new one?

If it is just blackened (like when I used a large lid to extinguish an oven glove fire on top of the cooker) I am afraid I have no suggestions, I scrubbed and scrubbed and while some came off, it remains discoloured.
However if there is burnt on food, biological soap powder or stain remover (ACE) may do it. I just heated up some ACE and let it simmer gently and it eventually came off.
I take it you have already attacked it with Fairy Power Spray? (Used dry)
